How about a session on set ups for kokanee.....your salmon set up vids rock! Not everyone has access to dual electronic downriggers....what else you got? Action induced baits like hoochies would also be good. Cover things like leader length tween the Dodger and the hooch.....how much action does an addict want? Are there insights between chinook/coho and kokanee fishing? Gear is similar, just down sized. As always, advice on bait/secret sauce is always welcome! Any challenge thrown in all of this fun just makes it more interesting. Wallowa Lake is coming back.....come catch a new world record! I'll cheer you on up here!
I have to agree with mike! There is alot of drag with the cowbells and what i found out that holding the rod tip in the water helps some. Tight lines the bullship
I always start out running one of each and let the fish tell me what they want. Generally end up with a good mix on each. Very rarely is one 100% better than the other.
I've fished that lake for 40 years and always use a rubber snubber behind a lake troll...no snubber cuts net percentage in half. I bet I've brought in over 100 Kokanee lips
Absolutely correct about playing fish softly. The hooks tear out if you're not super gentle. IMO. It's why long soft rods are traditional. You can use a short stiff rod if you're very careful.
I used dropper 8 oz weights, on medium action rods, with no snubbers. I caught 8 tiny kokanee at a lake with an overpopulation, and never lost one to the soft jaws. I was in a kayak too.
In my mind you had to many variables in the dodger vs gang troll. You had an overcast day that was constant, good. The dodger was darker than the nickel gang troll, it should of outfished the gang that day. But to me the big difference was the dodger had UV reflector tape, where the gang troll did not. Would be interesting to put a little UV tape on the gang troll and refish. The gang troll needs a snubber also, otherwise a koke just pounds against it and tears off! Just my thoughts, always open to your thoughts. With koks we are always learning !!!
yeah, the ford fender/gang troll needs a rubber snubber to keep the hook from pulling out. You should have one on the kokanee dodger also but the lake troll pulls harder when reeling it in. pretty even hook up rate. i like ford fenders but am open to the dodger now that i see how they produce and much less pull when reeling in your fish.
You just got yourself a new subscriber. Great Content Man! Learned a lot for Koke fishing. And I really enjoyed the visuals . Keep up the humor . A lot of fishing videos are boring on RUclips . Lol little to no humor. You guys did great 💪🏽 much love from Salt Lake City Utah 🫡
Do you need heavy rods like you are using here? What if I'm trolling from a little 14' boat? Help. I live close to Detroit reservoir. What do I need to be succer?
No need for heavy rods. A long soft rod is fine too. Just play the fish VERY softly. Don't pull him. Just keep enough pressure to keep the hook in, without ripping it from his mouth.
I too enjoyed this challenge! Nice job to all involved. I myself would like to see hoochies with spinners vs hoochies with none. And/or hoochies vs spinner bead lure. Great viewing guys thanks again!
Good competition and I agree with Mike, that far back there is much more drag on those cow bells. Also I saw a demonstration where the thought of Kokanee having soft mouths is more of a myth. The smaller younger Kokes do have more tender mouths
What speed did you guys try to stick with during this fishing contest? Does the dodger like a slower speed than the fender set up? Thank you for the video, very cool guys!
A link to almost everything except the Simms bibs your wearing, I'm looking for rain bibs not waders and not insulated. What are u wearing in this video? By model #. Thanks
Compare some of the different hoochies: wiggle, spin n glow, twisteds and straight vs wedding rings and other spinners vs flies:tube style or hand tied types vs brads koke cut plugs. Another try is colored corns with same scents on same rigs.
I love the Kokanee stuff keep it coming. I want to see kcp vs wedding ring for sure. I know here in Idaho I catch them on wedding rings but I just bought a kcp and haven’t got to use it yet.
So... How about catching kokanee through the ice? We recently had the neighborhood lake planted with kokanee for the first time and no one knew they had done that. In the middle of winter, we were pulling up small (but delicious) kokanee on our trout set ups. I caught one of the first ones and even ones coming over to confirm what I had caught. I am guessing that maybe thirty to forty were caught before the I've broke up (abut two months).
good video .i like so much.. could you tell me please the name of the fishing equipment you use the line, what size it is. the type of rod and the rail..the type of hooks and the food you use ... thank you I'm new to this sport of fishing I've never sinned on the boat ... thank you
So I am new to trout fishing so for all I know this is a different breed of trout but can I use the same techniques for trout specifically rainbow trout and late Trout
hello Cameron I been watching your vids for a while now, I live in calif and mostly fish the salt. I do get up to Lake Tahoe and enjoy that fishery. For kokes I could only get them to bite when I use large ford fenders. I do not have much luck with dodgers which I would like to get it to produce. I realize it’s not easy to give an opinion without more info, but what do you think is the issue…
We fish everywhere! But we live in WA & OR & mostly here for salmon, steelhead, trout, kokanee, walleye, & bass. Honestly though we chase anything that swims!!!

I think you said 5 kokanee when you ment to say 10. limit is 10 kokanee and 5 trout at that lake. and coho count as kokanee but trout are its own bag limit. unless it changed very recently.
What is going to win? Kokanee Dodger or Ford Fender Lake Trolls?! 🤔🎣
Dodger
Dodger
I’ve never caught a Kokanee so this was cool to watch
Kokanator 😬
Dodger. To much drag on the cow bell like mike is saying right now
I wanna see hoochies vs wedding rings please! Both behind dodgers.
Denny King same dodgers though. Gotta keep a control variable in there.
Agreed. This is a toss up for me. I would say hoochies would be the winner.
@@garychiang2568 funny, my confidence is in wedding rings
I definitely would love to see more of these challenges. I would like to see inline spinners vs hoochies. Maybe use the same color of each.

One of the best fishing vids I have seen. You guys keep it fun. Would love to see more showdowns.
I’m an old guy, so I like to see the comparisons.
Try a smaller gang troll less drag in the water give your rod a chance to work.
I would like to see more of a variety of setups for Kokanee fishing, Cameron.
Fun to watch. Do you stop the boat after you get a bite? You'd catch most of those you missed if you did that.
and lure battles and bait battles would be awesome. tuna vs no tuna, yellow vs white corn, etc.

Fun video, hope to first time fish for Kokanee soon. Thanks for the video, keep 'em coming!
There are a few lakes in Oregon that the Ford Fender + wedding ring + cured corn on one hook and worm on the other are absolute ringers for rainbows.

What a fun challenge!! Love videos like this! Could you do one where you troll a fly on sinking line vs a spinner or something? I’d love to see that😀
Awesome video love a Challenge keep them coming!
Great job guys. Nice to see the comparisons between gear. LUV Koke fishing!!!
I'm a 61yr old Troutman & addicted to your channel
Hey guys it's frank sokolowski from michigan again I've learned alot from wotching your videos and i think you guys are cool
Should try switching rods, seen plenty of times that one location on the boat can be the hot spot on any given day.
Good times guys. Thanks for bringing us along!!
love to see you air fry the fish. need to do more catch n cooks pls.
glade to see mike back he is so lucky all the time lol
I also find the standard cowbell pulls really hard for kokanee, it's like a 25lb test trolling rig ..
Nice. I use the cow bells for trout in MI, but I think I will try the Dodger setup to see if that works too.
Looking to learn more about kokanee fishing.
Mike got hosed..the legend should have took the gang flashers...pizza for dinner!
How about some Kokanee tips/challenges for summer months... June, July... etc. Love your channel thank you!
The flasher to the lure what pound test do i use for the leader?

justin bergen 🤣

Cameron should be on both rods next time to make it more of an equal comparison!

What was the secret sauce you were using besides tuna ?

Also use mono for line too

Do you guys not run rubber snubbers?
Would like to see a KCP vs Spin n Glo challenge too!
Awesome! I’m new to trolling for trout can u give me some tips on rig set up and types of gear for trout
What great landscape!
ive been asking around and allways looking for insight how do you eliminate line twist any help would be greatly be
appreciated
Bead chain between the rod and the dodger or gang troll should help.
Usually they come with a blade or paddle I guess up front that acts as a rubber and helps with line twist. Bead chains are important though
What is the quick release clip you use?

Just curious what the specs are on the rods you are using?
I'd like to see differences in procure scents with trout / Kokanee

Using a snubber will help stop the hook from pulling out. Dusty
He needed a snubber oh the lake troll.
Luhr Jensen Ford Fender Model T silver with silver disco ball sticker
What lake is that? I'm from Arizona

It’s not fare that mike is going up against a legend give the guy a chance lol
kok's were on the bite but lost apx 30 fish. boating 7 why did we loose so many fish???
Possibly the type of hook; reeling in too fast, gang troll instead of a flasher/dodger.
