Honestly it makes me think kawhi that he didn't want to stick around and defend the title. Especially with the way the league is now he could have demanded a trade anyways down the road if you really wanted to move.
CR defending the Embiid extension like it was necessary is the prime example of this. 76ers had until 2026 to extend Embiid. Now he’s there until 2029, we could be seeing the next John Wall/Russell Westbrook albatross contract.
How the hell does Nick Nurse get blamed for his superstar "MVP" constantly getting injured and being out of shape? Embiid's championship was begging and crying for that MVP. He's a much less successful James Harden. He even got the flopping and flailing package.
i agree with you on the harden comparison but harden isnt that much more successful. this isnt me trying to defend embiid at all its more to denigrate harden which i will do every chance i get the guy is a punk who asks for trades every time things start to get tough similar to kevin durant..but at least KD takes care of himself and his game and is almost always an mvp candidate and he's older than harden. all this to say my least favorite nba players are harden, embiid, westbrook, KD, and kyrie although my opinion on kyrie is starting to change based on what he's been doing in dallas lately. KD i will always respect as an individual talent and all time great but the dude is kind of a deuschbag and his constant attaching himself to super teams is kind of weak.

@DrPhill96 self serious, self aggrandizing, Max contract superstars, who rarely play, who rarely come through in big games, who complain and are ornery in the media, who look down on the fans, who’s salaries hamstrings the teams ability to build solid rosters while shunning the responsibility of actually winning
@ - So why did the team sign him to that contact when they did not have to? You people complain about the officials and media constantly, players can’t? 😂🤣 And screw the fans, I mean the complainers who can only dream of being talented at something, I mean the poor people concerned with player’s salaries. Finally, Joel entered the league hurt. So again, why did the team give him an extension?
They most certainly did NOT need to extend Embid. They’re never winning with this team anyway…move Embid while he still has decent value and get what you can for him.
The proccess was ruined from the start. Constantly tanking on purpose is a terrible way to build a team. It's why evergreen franchises like the Spurs and the Heat don't do it: it creates a terrible atmosphere around the orginization AND requires a bit of luck that your picks pan out. All those years of being garbage on purpose and they got a #1 who stopped wanting to play ball (Simmons), a #1 who forgot how to play (Fultz), a #3 who was a bust (Okafor) and a #3 who is great but always injured and a diva (Embiid). They would have been better off keeping guys like Jrue Holiday and Vucevic and try to build a great team the way every other orginization that actually goes all the way does.
@ 100% agree with you. However, Philadelphia still despite everything could have and should have won a title IF THEY JUST WOULD HAVE SIGNED BUTLER TO THE MAX INSTEAD OF TOBIAS. Remember they had BOTH already. It’s not like everything wasn’t already set up🤔🙄. This was the summer of 2019 and the Sixers had just took the CHAMPS (Toronto) to 7 hard fought games and lost game 7 bc of the LUCKIEST SHOT IN NBA HISTORY.
Embiid is a regular season stat padder whose only aim was to win mvp and doesn’t do enough for his teams to be winning chips, he’s massively talented so his stat padding results in wins but that’s about it.
What type of logic is this. His stat padding results in wins? So its not stat padding. He's Just injury prone. Y'all ride the special bus with this logic
Nick Nurse came up with a rotation-heavy, generate turnovers and protect the rim defensive scheme. It worked for 2 seasons. But it's flaw was that it gave up the corner 3, and teams began to adjust. The Raptors leaned into his scheme by trying operation 6'9" and it failed. He failed to adjust and innovate or even run more traditional sets, instead choosing to complain about the roster composition. So they fired him. He got hired by Philly, and he's had an old/broken team ever since. But his flaws as a coach are under a magnifying glass now, the worst of which is his unwillingness to play and develop young talent and riding his stars to Thibs level minutes.
Portland with lesser fame and CJ is crazy work. Even with the style of play being different in the league, that would be a hard decision. No great forward/big is gonna kill vs all top teams
The quality of the video and audio is the best it’s ever been for this pod. I’m sure since Chris Ryan was in the Spotify studio they were able to download better files. Maybe go in studio going forward folks. Better product.
That Carl Everett reference hit me. I completely blanked on his existence until Bill brought him up despite the fact that I actually talked to him several times and met his family while he was here. I know he's got kind of a rep but he was really nice and personable the times I ran into him.
The NBA had this new era of stars that are not leaders and don't even want the responsibility of it - Embiid, Durant, Irving, Harden, Westbrook, and so on, I'm sure we can add more. They just want to hoop, but want to be treated like the star that does it all. Leadership is a huge part and they just don't get it.
Take a look at the minutes played per game leaders during Nick Nurse's years in Toronto. Every year they had three or four guys in the top ten. He has no interest in preserving players and that makes him the worst possible coach for Embiid and George.
Simmons questioning whether or not Nick Nurse is a good coach is jusf beyond insane. He just glosses over the title defense season where Nurse coached his ass off in the playoffs against Brad Stevens to a 7 game second round exit. Idk how Bill could watch that series and ever question nurse lmao, Simmons really does just say random shit and sees what sticks
I’ve never understood why the 76ers have so much hype and expectation every season. Aside from 2019, they’ve never looked like a contender and haven’t even been past the 2nd round since Iverson took them to the finals in 2001.
Embiid is a grift not only on the court, but also in media, he conned whole bunch of people into thinking he's good, by resting all the time and going hard on tanking teams, padding his stats, you listen to them, they always reference how good he looked, never mention the play-off, but that one time, during regular season when he put 70 on a tanking team...he looked unstoppable
@@UraStrEmbiid is turning into one of the most overrated players ever. His approach and production doesn't translate to team-wide success especially once the competition gets tougher.
When people were killing the Clippers this summer, "I said I feel them." You already stuck with Khawi. And you know he's gonna still miss games. Whenever Khawi is out, George has shown that he can't be a #1, can't carry the team if Khawis is out. Like he played like shit vs. Dallas, so what's the point of a 4 year deal. Just ride it out and rebuild when the Khawi deal is up. You ain't the Lakers, but you still play in LA.
I expected this to go bad but 2 - 12 bad is alarming even with this team. Wouldn’t be shocked if Embiid is on another team before his extension is over
Not sure about the "he is just too big to be healthy" argument when Giannis and Jokic are playing before our very eyes. And AD has improved his availability a lot last few years.
They mean big AND heavy. It's hard to compare anyone's durability to Lebron, but as he aged, he was very diligent about slimming down and maintaining a lower playing weight and it's hard to argue with his result. Players like Joel and an extreme case, Zion, who struggle with weight early in their careers, have to work that much harder as they age just to maintain.
14:59 Why make the 10th seed? Isn't that the worst position to be in? they have to win 2 in a row just to make the playoffs and if they don't, their draft pick goes to OKC. No 10th seed since the inception of play-in has ever made it to the playoffs and no team with 2-12 has ever advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Also, in order to get to 10th seed, they will have to be at least a .500 team the rest of the way with Embiid unavailable for back-to-backs. Even if all stars aligned and Sixers make history, what's the end goal? Championship? At what cost to Embiid's health? All I can say is: good luck!
IMO, this is it. They have 2, maybe 3 years before the age really catches up with the Sixers. I'd shut Embiid and PG down for the rest of the year, give McCain more minutes, and ensure PG & Embiid stick to their fitness, do monthly checks, and start the next season ready.
0:51 Why give Joel an extension? The guy had 2+1 years left on his current contract! Daryl Morey played hardball with Harden who was also an MVP, a scoring champ, and is healthy in his 30's, but somehow decided to bend over backwards to please an oft-injured Embiid. Wouldn't Sixers be in a better situation if Morey played hardball with both or extended both?
@@Jsch23 I'm not. I'm simply pointing out Morey's double standard. That's why this team is in a mess right now. He should've manned up and not extend Embiid until 2025 because no one on the team is irreplaceable, that includes Harden, Embiid, and Morey himself.
I dont understand his point about "the cost of doing business". Whats the worst that happens? Hes mad he doesnt have 6 years and wants a trade with 3 years left? Cool, anyone could see this coming. You get out from under him and have a chance with Maxey etc.
It's just bad luck for this team. One of the sad part about sports is that durability plays such a huge role, and as we all know, fast-paced, action-packed sports create multiple opportunities for athletes to get injured. Some athletes are, unfortunately, impacted more than others, and it sucks because they affect so many teams (aka my Bulls, esp Lonzo Ball and Zach Lavine) and ruin so many people's potential, careers, and team success. There's so many what-ifs in basketball, and Philly is the What-If Process like mf. Maybe organizations like the NBA needs to invest in CRISPR gene-editing or something. It sucks as a fan of basketball to see so many athletes and teams fail to reach their potential to injury. It seems like it's happening more than ever lately.....
"The Process" was a total failure. Now, the geniuses in the front office sold the Sixers fans a big three that are made up of two-thirds injury prone players. George and Embiid on the same team is a joke. They won't play one hundred games between them. Wait, the con is three levels. Then, the office sold the fans on Embiid, not playing to begin the seaon, and not playing back to backs in order to have him healthy for the playoffs. Unfortunately, the team can't make the playoffs without him. This makes zero sense.
Go back and watch the dialogue surrounding Toronto when they weren’t good and Nurse was at the helm. Always comes with rumors about his players’ character.
Nick Nurse lost the locker room where Scottie Barnes was their best player. And he thought this shit show of emotions and podcasters was gonna be a place he keeps the locker room. Just laughable
Giving one of the most injury prone players in the league who just turned 30, had never been a leader, shows up late to meetings and practices. Maybe that's not the guy you want to give a giant extension to.
We also forget that Nick nurse came out and said hey maybe it’s time for me to leave while still being a coach of the Raptors it’s not on the team before he even got fired
I'm surprised no one mentioned the Philly dream scenario where they get into the playoffs from the 10th seed and then get to play Boston in the first round with full rest.
Where do I apply to edit videos for the Ringer? Ship everyone a cheap Canon R50 to use as a webcam and record locally then stitch it all together. If you're gonna lean into video, do it well. Please.
Thing is philly would be better off tanking because of that top 6 protected pick. might as well shut down pg and let mccain loose. the real question though... is embiid done?
And seemingly forgets that they took his fucking team to 7 games in the second round. I couldn't believe how stupid he sounded for the whole nurse conversation.
shot 10-21, which is not even 50%... :D that's a center...and these people: "shot the lights out"...he's grifting for fouls...that's what he can do even when he's limping around
the funny thing is you cant even say their season is over. they're in the east. they will find a way to sneak into the playoffs no matter how hairy it gets.
Giving players like Embiid that extension is just "the price of doing business"... for front offices and organizations that will never sniff a championship. There finished that thought for you.
Investing in players with long injury histories is always a big gamble. And Embiid has always had an ego bigger than his playoff successes. I just don't know that he has the work ethic to be that championship dude. Which is crazy given his skills. Jokic got in shape. Embiid and Luka just don't seem to be as serious about the game.
Why do you HAVE to pay Joel though? You will never win a championship with him. He has never played anywhere close to a full season. He has never accomplished anything on a team/franchise level. WHY DO YOU *HAVE* TO PAY HIM? WHY?
I would love to hear Chris Ryan’s take on the new stadium. Not just the fact that they are trying to build one, but why it may be causing issues with the fan base and the city at large. As a Philadelphian myself, I feel this is a HUGE part of the equation. The city is predominantly against the stadium due to its potential effect on the neighborhood they plan to build it in (Chinatown). The pushback against the stadium is hefty and it seems the elite’s who run the team are refusing to listen to the community. I love the sixers, yet I can’t help but feel the ignorance the ownership group has shown in this issue has contributed greatly to the bad vibes we see on the court.
The thing with Embiid is, remember the pre draft stuff… this was the best possible version of him as a player. He was always going to be a bit broken and a bit lazy.
Embid is washed - end of story. See Yao Ming, Bill Walton, etc... Can kinda still play and wants that contract but it will be a slow downhill slide from here.
Who cares about 76ers Embiid is a choker and a loser even when healthy aka when he chokes every time its health excuse. It's not like they would light a world on fire. Maybe he can cry his way into playoffs.
What they need is a Maxey confidence glow up like Ant to KAT in Minnesota, they need Embiid to become a two in service of their new star and hope that Maxey and exceed expectations even more than he already has, mix in PG and you good
Where in the blame pie sits the GENIOUS Darryl Morey????? He's so smart, so analytical, he doesn't just put superstars together even if they don't fit.............
House is right on Nick Nurse. Toronto fell apart because Masai had the 6'9 dream with no real true center. Nurse had to make it work, it obviously didn't work out and every major piece wanted out because of what they had to do.
We see a team/coach like Nurse’s Raptors every year. Defence-first, or score everything in transition, or both. They get all this praise as this underdog story, “Wow they’re winning all these games with no half-court offence!” Then they flame out in the playoffs and fall off the next year. The only thing separating Nurse from Quinn Snyder, Taylor Jenkins, Mike Brown, Dwayne Casey, Chris Finch, etc. is two great playoffs series in 2019. That story of an overachieving coach has won a lot of COTY awards and very few championships.
@@yupnope4777So your belief is that if a coach only wins one championship in their first 5 years in the league they aren't good because they only did it once? Lmfao you sound like a moron
Paying a 35 year old injury prone star 200m who has been over valued his entire career. One 25+ ppg season and they put him in the same class as the Tmac and Carmelo’s even same sentence as durant is just shameful. He’s a whiner and a loser, that never takes accountability and always has that smug look on his face. Secondly, Embiid was injured going into the olympics. He was hobbling during the games and also started slow if you remember. So he never gave himself time to heal because he’s never won anything ever. He wanted a taste of that feeling. But now it’s all catching up to them.
This is the worst Nick Nurse analysis I've ever heard. I mean, we all know Simmons has a hate on for Toronto but come on guys, this is just a bunch of bad hot takes with no backup at all.
The sixers are fine. They would much rather go in to the play in as the 10 seed with a healthy Joel and PG then be the one seed with one of those guys seriously hurt. It’d be almost impossible for any team that’s trying to win to not make it to the 10 seed in the east so until one of their big 3 suffers an injury that would jeopardize their available come April, there’s no reason to worry

1000% bang on- Joel Embiid is a total inflatable car lot wavy arm guy.
DO NOT DEGRADE Torontos championship just because your team is assss. you know who to blame stop dancing around. hint hint hes 7ft tall and cant be accountable to save his life
I love that raptors championship I mean I'm not a rappers fan or anything but I just like how they took a huge risk and it paid off. Honestly it makes me think kawhi that he didn't want to stick around and defend the title. Especially with the way the league is now he could have demanded a trade anyways down the road if you really wanted to move.
Chris Ryan is the # 1 Embiid ball washer
He's in shambles 😂😂😂😂
CR defending the Embiid extension like it was necessary is the prime example of this. 76ers had until 2026 to extend Embiid. Now he’s there until 2029, we could be seeing the next John Wall/Russell Westbrook albatross contract.
Disagree. What he said was realism: what choice did the Sixers have?
Fact is, most of us would be shitty GMs.

I say this as a Raptors fan: Nick Nurse is a good to very good tactician, but he is awful with man-management, and that's a noteworthy flaw
Isn't he famous for using kiddie gloves and catering to diva players?
@@Kagemusha08 Him and Siakam had beef with each other
As a Knicks fan, I love seeing Embiid struggle with injuries. Dude is a scumbag and completely deserves it. He intentionally hurt Mitch last year in the playoffs
Mitch was already hurt and Mitch still played the game. Also Embiid was trying to prevent him landing on him.

Our maroon Mercury Topaz went through several cousins and my older brothers before me. Felt like basically the same exact car as a Tempo.
The NBA is not hard to figure out sometimes. Usually the best players in the world win titles. I personally think it’s been clear for a while now that Embiid proves he is not in that tier of guys, and now the Sixers are stuck. I can’t believe there’s still this many excuses for Embiid. He has shown what he is
It’s pretty funny that Ben Simmons has had a better healthier season than Joel Embiid right now
Relax, Bens on a contract year. Even Kawhi was healthy when there's money on the line
Ben's played in 7 more games so healthier yes better tho? Dude is averaging 5.7 points even this broken Joel is better than Ben when on the court
Contract year
Yet Embiid has taken more FTs… so there’s that.
Better is debatable. Embiid has more points in 4 games than Ben has in 11.
Joel Embiid is everything that is wrong with the NBA.
Which is?
@@DrPhill96the foul baiting alone is enough, but with Embiid it’s just the tip of the iceberg

They’re never winning with this team anyway…move Embid while he still has decent value and get what you can for him.
news flash nobody wants that giant lazy vibe mess
@ this is the NBA..there’s always a dumber more desperate team willing to take on bad contracts.
The PROCESS was forever ruined when inexplicably the Sixers signed Tobias Harris to a MAX DEAL instead of Jimmy Butler🤔🙄🥸
It was either Butler or Embiid. The two of them on the same team would have never, ever worked.
Joel Embiid doesn't have Tim Duncan's work ethic.
Tim Duncan is the complete opposite of Embiid! Greatest teammate/leader, plays better defense, willing to defer, ultimate champion!
It means his stat padding results in wins in regular season when teams don’t hustle hard, come playoffs those wins vanish.
Jarred Mcain has been the only consistent bright spot for the Sixers.
Would the Sixers consider building around Maxey and Mcain.
With 100m+ in dead cap? What other options are there
Portland with lesser fame and CJ is crazy work. Even with the style of play being different in the league, that would be a hard decision. No great forward/big is gonna kill vs all top teams
Will they tank for Flagg?
I personally don’t like tanking and I prefer to play to win the game.
The quality of the video and audio is the best it’s ever been for this pod. I’m sure since Chris Ryan was in the Spotify studio they were able to download better files. Maybe go in studio going forward folks. Better product.
Here's the issue - they fight to win 39 games, and then they play either Boston, Cleveland, or New York in round 1. Have fun!
Yeah, people act like the 76ers just have to get in and then watch out!
Lol, who do we think this team can beat?

That Carl Everett reference hit me. I completely blanked on his existence until Bill brought him up despite the fact that I actually talked to him several times and met his family while he was here. I know he's got kind of a rep but he was really nice and personable the times I ran into him.
The NBA had this new era of stars that are not leaders and don't even want the responsibility of it - Embiid, Durant, Irving, Harden, Westbrook, and so on, I'm sure we can add more. They just want to hoop, but want to be treated like the star that does it all. Leadership is a huge part and they just don't get it.
Time for the Sixers to 'Capture the Flagg.'
Trusting Paul George and embidd in there 30s is crazy
trusting their GM is crazier
Take a look at the minutes played per game leaders during Nick Nurse's years in Toronto. Every year they had three or four guys in the top ten. He has no interest in preserving players and that makes him the worst possible coach for Embiid and George.
every offseason the narrative around embiid was "coming into training camp in shape". he is not going to change...

We can all agree that "The Process" has died a slow and painful death. R.I.P.
Not sure about the "he is just too big to be healthy" argument when Giannis and Jokic are playing before our very eyes. And AD has improved his availability a lot last few years.
Yeah some guys just tear down fast
They mean big AND heavy. It's hard to compare anyone's durability to Lebron, but as he aged, he was very diligent about slimming down and maintaining a lower playing weight and it's hard to argue with his result. Players like Joel and an extreme case, Zion, who struggle with weight early in their careers, have to work that much harder as they age just to maintain.
Jokic lost weight lol
Bill’s Dream Sixers Season
I’m a simple man I see a Sixers topic with Chris Ryan I click 😅😅
The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he isnt washed (and then getting a 200 million dollar contract).
Maxey's 3 point shooting is atrocious: 10.4 attempts and only hitting 27%.
IMO, this is it. They have 2, maybe 3 years before the age really catches up with the Sixers. I'd shut Embiid and PG down for the rest of the year, give McCain more minutes, and ensure PG & Embiid stick to their fitness, do monthly checks, and start the next season ready.
As a coach i would not want to coach Embiid and as a player i would not want to play with him
0:51 Why give Joel an extension? The guy had 2+1 years left on his current contract! Daryl Morey played hardball with Harden who was also an MVP, a scoring champ, and is healthy in his 30's, but somehow decided to bend over backwards to please an oft-injured Embiid. Wouldn't Sixers be in a better situation if Morey played hardball with both or extended both?
dont give harden too much credit here
@@Jsch23 I'm not.
I haven't disliked a player more than Embiid for years. sad that much ability is attached to that big of a jerk.
Jordan was a jerk too, but he always lifted up the teams he played on.
Are we sure Nick Nurse is good ? GTFO. I swear everyone loved him last year, now all I hear is he’s on the verge of being fired this season. A joke
I just wanna say that I'm here for the sixers hate-watch pod.
My first car was a Ford tempo too! '86 and the breaks gave out while going down a hill 😅

Thing is philly would be better off tanking because of that top 6 protected pick. might as well shut down pg and let mccain loose. the real question though... is embiid done?
As a philly fan, I have been over Embiid for the past 3-4 years.

"53 wins, meh". Yeah, in a covid shortened season, they were on pace for 60 wins without Kawhi.
He should have been traded two years ago, he needs a wake up call time to get assests for him
If the situation is so miserable, trade Embiid
the funny thing is you cant even say their season is over. they're in the east. they will find a way to sneak into the playoffs no matter how hairy it gets.
Giving players like Embiid that extension is just "the price of doing business"... for front offices and organizations that will never sniff a championship. There finished that thought for you.
Let's be real, Chris Ryan. We've all known it was never happening for Embiid since the Atlanta series.
I'm enjoying the Philly show. I am a Knicks fan however but still, I'll take my entertainment where I can get it.
Joel Embiid is like the last blood clot you try to piss out during the period called "trust the process"
Why do you HAVE to pay Joel though?
You will never win a championship with him.
He has never played anywhere close to a full season.
He has never accomplished anything on a team/franchise level.
WHY DO YOU *HAVE* TO PAY HIM?
WHY?
Embid is lucky he had DoC and Simmons around to take all the heat... He gets a complete pass every year
I would love to hear Chris Ryan’s take on the new stadium.
You haters need to have some patience and remember to Trust The Process 😂
Joel Embiid is the guy that blames traffic or his alarm for always being late - yet hes never late for dinner 😂
Morey’s method of team building has been disproven. Coninuity and player development is winning these days.
What they need is a Maxey confidence glow up like Ant to KAT in Minnesota, they need Embiid to become a two in service of their new star and hope that Maxey and exceed expectations even more than he already has, mix in PG and you good
Lucky CR wasn’t in studio, he might have taken a swing at Bill for talking so much crap
In true Philly sports fan fashion 🤣
He looks so much depressed it is depressing to watch, lol..
Same deal with James Harden.
The old saying is true: Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
Nurse prob gonna go for a GM job after dealing with Masai and now Morey.
CR is living in a hi-def world :P
DRAMA MAMMA!!! Love House! 💕 😊
The real issue is that Tyrese Maxey is not a number one option. He’s a number three option who needs other players to create for him.
The way he walked off looked like a tennis player 😂 bill still got it
