What an underrated title. Super duper fun to play.. You know what doesn't help it? The title icon on the eshop. If it would have been more animated it would have caught my attention right away.
In all fairness, motion sickness tends to only affect viewers. The person playing isn't usually affected by it because they know each turn is coming and can adjust for it. It's the reason FPS gameplay can be a bit nauseating to watch, but fine to play.
I'm almost done with the game, and from personal experience it's quite disorienting for a while but you get used to it and it's more about raging at the bosses more than anything
One of the best games in recent years and the best indie game I've seen so far. The gameplay, the story, all those mini games, cultural references and so much more. This game is so full of ideas and it all comes together beautifully. Hard to believe that the game was basically done by one person.
Having just finished the game, I can honestly say "Horace" is an absolute masterpiece and worth the investment, sale or no sale. It joins the likes of "Celeste", "Limbo", "Inside" and "MO: Astray" as one of the best 2D platform games in the last 15 years.
The parts they show in this video are ultra early and ultra easy compared to some of the insane platforming later on. I wonder how far these reviewers got in it.
Just playing it... I can't believe this was a Epic store FREE game, I got it and its been sitting in my to download for a while. Really enjoyed it on 3rd chapter. Get it ASAP!
I can remember the original Horace games, I used to play them on my ZX Spectrum back in the day. Seems like a real nostalgia trip for those of us old enough to remember.
Everytime a new content from NL comes out, I try ti guess in my head if it's gonna be presented by Alex, Zion or Jon. "Huum, this looks like a Alex game" "Aah, this one gotta be Zion!" "This one is a little weird, I think it's gonna be Jon" The last one was my thought for this video exactly
I cant help but think there's something very sinister in this review. Brilliant the story is 5/5 even But the gameplay is a solid 1/5 I found myself playing through the game just to finish it which is never a good sign. The gameplay is incredibly clunky and clumsy. There were rooms where I would spend plenty of time trying to get through when I would accidentally fall at a funny angle and end up at the finish line. Recommend this game I would. But this reviewer has to me lost all credibility in the comments I've heard expressed. This game would be a 10 if the gameplay wasnt so awful So unfortunately it's a 7 from me.
I'm sure it's someone's cup of tea, but I couldn't hate the character designs and graphics more. And the way the screen rotates and wobbles back and forth as you move around edges and walls gives me a headache. This will have to be a pass for me.
Yahtzee makes comedy videos, not game reviews. He constantly reveals what he _actually_ thinks about games after spending ages bashing them for comic effect. Like he loves Dark Souls, but you wouldn't think that from the way he talks about it I'd rather trust an actual game review over a comedy video
@My Subs please go watch a video by Matthematosis. _THOSE_ are game reviews. He works in programming and game development so he really knows his stuff. He goes really deep into game mechanics. It's absolutely fascinating, it's academic game analysis, this is the stuff you get taught if you get a degree in game design. It's not just haha funny fast talking British funny man haha. You know. I love Yahtzee's videos but he's the definition of hyperbolic and he doesn't actually analyse games. Just saying "I like this aspect" and "I dont like this aspect" isn't a review. It's not an analysis. Matthematosis sometimes does very very deep analysis, like his 7 hour video on Dark Souls. I dunno, what it is is that I used to watch Yahtzee constantly. But then I found better channels for reviews. Like hbomberguy and Matthewmatosis. And so it's really hard to go back to Yahtzee now with the such base observations. They're great videos, they're funny and very well made and animated. But as review they're next to useless for helping you determine whether you wanna buy a game or not, you know what I mean? OK have a watch of this review and comparison of two similar metroidvania games: ruclips.net/video/fuPsJk-c3bQ/видео.html I choose this one as it's one of his shorter reviews and doesn't require you to have watched any previous videos (like he has a mario and Zelda series where you're meant to watch them in order, but yeah). I highly highly recommend it. Just give it a watch, and if you hate it, then you've only lost 20 minutes of your life, you know, lol I'm not trying to put down your tastes and likes. Not at all. I love Yahtzee too. But I don't buy games based on his videos because they never really go into any detail and they're more about his funny reactions to things than any attempt at objective analysis. And again that's fine, his videos are incredibly funny and great. Even though I have to slow the playback speed down to 0.75 to hear all the jokes lol. But yeah for review and analysis, I want an actual review and analysis. You know? Also I trust Nintendo Life pretty completely because I always seem to agree with their recommendations. Ultimately that's what you want, a critic where you know their views so well that you can get a good recommendation from them, even if you disagree with them all the time. Then you know to buy the games they dislike, and so on. I know I agree with Roger Ebert most of the time, so I know a 4 star review from him means I'm guaranteed to love the film basically. But the critic is only good if they explain in detail why they feel that way about everything. If they don't go into detail, you don't know _WHY_ they like or dislike something and so have nothing to go off.
@@duffman18 isn’t mathosis the guy who bashed dark souls on the basis that he couldn’t understand how to use the lock on? There are far more interesting people out there for video game content honestly the first one to come to mind is Noah Caldwell gervais
@@ciggy_ huh? No, he wasn't. You must be thinking of someone else. He did do a video where he criticsed Dark Souls 2, not Dark Souls 1, but it was about the enemy types not jiving well with the control scheme. He knows how to lock on, he's one of those lads who's beaten every dark souls game (including demon souls and bloodborne) so much that he can beat the game with a level 1 character with no armour. He's one of the best games journalists in terms of his skill at gaming, which I don't think is a necessity to be a good reviewer, it's irrelevant really, but he goes and beats the MGS games on European extreme with ease, all the devil may cry and Bayonetta games and Viewtiful Joe etc on the hardest modes. You can't fault him for lack of ability, certainly. But yeah that Dark Souls 2 was a fascinating video. And then hbomberguy made _TWO_ feature movie length videos basically as a rebuttal to Matthew's video. And all 3 of those videos are incredibly well made. You should watch both of them. Decide for yourself who you think is right. Either way, yeah hbomberguy and Matthewmatosis are the best 2 gaming channels because they go into quite literally academic level concepts of game design. It's incredible how far we've come since the early days of online gaming videos, with everyone trying to be an "angry reviewer", copying AVGN's style very poorly. These aren't game reviews. They're analysis of academic concepts of game design taken as a whole, across the whole industry and art form. Hbomberguy's video on bloodborne is essentially a movie length video about one aspect of the game, the lack of shields. And what he calls "play conditioning" where Bloodborne teaches you to play the game with a proactive, aggressive style, because the game has no shields. Which retroactively makes the Dark Souls games way better. It stops people from walking around with the shield up constantly, they play aggressively, and have a way better time with it because of that. It's a fascinating concept Folding Ideas is also a fantastic channel. However he mostly talks about films, because that's where his academic life was focused on, he got undergrad and postgrad degrees in film studies. However when he does make videos about video games, it's always fascinating. Like he made a very interesting video about "intended play". Whether there should be a right way to play a game and how it affects the critical reception of it based on how people are playing it, whether they'd doing it "right" or "wrong". The Stanley Parable is an interesting example of that because the intended play is to do the opposite of what's intended, but that opposite is the real intended play because they built the game around pushing players to disobey the narrator. So is following what the narrator says the UNintended play? Well no, because the game is built for that too. Real unintended play would be something else entirely, breaking the game, almost. Like, OK, there's a sort of "default" way to play Skyrim, but there's also dozens of other ways to play it, which is the point, it's an open world RPG where you play how you want, you can ignore the main story entirely if you want. But that's still "intended play" Sorry I'm rambling. It's just I love that there's really upping the ante in terms of games analysis now. It's not simply "I like the graphics, I don't like the gameplay, 3/10, _what_ _were_ _they_ _THINKING_ ? I'd rather eat a roadkill buffalo's anus covered in SHIT and PISS“ etc. The academics of art always fascinate me even though I'm a layman. Like art history fascinates me, learning about how Rembrant's The Night Watch painting was only called that because the varnish coating of it had greatly darkened over centuries, so they removed it and re-varnished it and it turns out it was a daytime scene all along. And video games are art, and the academic research into it goes beyond simply teaching folks how to build a good game, it also has the art history aspect of it now. Analysing the history of the art form for its own sake. I dunno, it's just I liked short reviews and "funny" _ANGRY_ sweary reviews when I was 13 years old. But I'm 31 now. So I was thinking I would give Horace a 4/5, right up until I got to the fete. I've now failed the fete games more times than it took me to 100% clear the laser hallway of doom. I'm perfectly content with 2nd place. The platforming controls were already a bit sloppy, but the unskippable pointless mini games are the last straw, and I wish I could get a refund of my $3.

Cool game
So I was thinking I would give Horace a 4/5, right up until I got to the fete.
I've now failed the fete games more times than it took me to 100% clear the laser hallway of doom.
I'm perfectly content with 2nd place.
The platforming controls were already a bit sloppy, but the unskippable pointless mini games are the last straw, and I wish I could get a refund of my $3.
This game couldn't have an HD Art style?
It doesn't need it. What they're able to express in the pixels in incredible. Especially facial emotions that shouldn't work, they just do
The voice acting in this game is awful.
First and thats A FACT
10/10 means it's a Perfect video game. There's no such thing. I regret watching this video. I watched it all the way up until the end, at which point, you blew any credibility you had by handing out such an outrageous score.
