Thank you! It is embarrassing how much time I spent trying to remove my AP from the ceiling before consulting my friend Google and finding your specialized tutorial!
You sir are brilliant. You saved me so much aggravation and I thank you! With the use of a flattened paper clip it popped the device right off the mount
Thankyou so much! It’s funny to see how frustrated we are to take it off from wall and when we popped in the cable tie it just spin and off right away. Lol
My significant other was on the ladder right now mad because he did not watch this video tutorial prior to trying to take the d*** disc off the ceiling.....and he finally succeeded after watching your tutorial, thank you!
very helpful. I've been stumped for days on the removal. wow. I wish I could use your expertise to help me figure out why the device continually goes offline.
It might be a good idea to use a Sharpie and place a small dot on the edge of the access point to show where the slot is. It’s hard to see the slot from below.
Great tip. Tried removing my AC-LR but it didn't work with your method. I even found the removal tool for the U6-LR, and it still didn't work on the AC-LR (was too short). Still trying to figure out how to remove that AC-LR... 🤔
Interesting, you might be able to try a very small gauge Allen key. Typically they are longer than a bent out paperclip and made of stronger material if your tab is sticking.
Had to yank my NanoHD off the wall bringing the bracket and plugs with it. The people that installed it didn't provide enough cable length for the AP to rotate enough for it to release from the bracket, could only turn it half the way required when it needs to rotate as far as it can to come off. Always leave enough cable length between the wall/ceiling and the AP's Rj45 connection for it to rotate far enough to release off the bracket.
Definitely worth approaching the install company about a recompense. Any professional installer knows to put in at least two maintenance loops on both ends of the installation, at least 1 ft of cable loop. Sorry to hear that got dorked up.
we live in an apartment with one....will taking it down and off affect any of the other units? It's my understanding each individual apartment unit has one.
I would clear that with the apartment. If the installation was done right the AP could affect signals around your unit. The APs have smart channel monitoring including signal strength. By moving it or removing it, you could cause other APs to broadcast higher strength or channel. This could in turn disrupt their surrounding APs. Wireless spectrum balancing and architecture can get a bit fickle.
It looks like something made by the creator. The AC units are awesome but removing it can be fiddly. I'd recommend snapping the flap off if it's for use in a home environment.
Hi too I'm trying to find the specialty tool. I searched ubiquiti's website, Amazon, and google, with no results that looked like that. I asked several bakeries and as expected they had no clue about a tool to remove these... Is there a part number to hel the search?
Hey joker, I used the twist tie from a load of bread, but you can use anything as long as it goes in straight. What's nice about the wider flat twist tie is it raises the latch just high enough, and covers the whole area.
For all of the idiots like myself, yes, it is a bread twist tie. But a coffee stirrer will work as well! Cannot confirm but been told toothpicks might do the job.
I'm going to be honest, it doesn't take a lot of force to get that tab to slide. That's why I demonstrated it with a bread twist tie. Ubiqiyitis low profile ease of use and install is one of the best out there. (I'm a network architect and deal with a lot) but I get if you just don't like it. To say it's poorly engineered and designed though....
@@BelowAverageUtahDad Don't get me wrong, I love ubiquiti gear. I have my whole house and yard covered - about 10 devices total including wired in-wall APs, wired switches, a mesh repeater for the pool, and so on. But this is a poor design. It's easy to turn that tab when the device is not installed and you have all the access you need. When it is installed and flush against the ceiling (or under the eave in my case), it's not easy to get it to turn because there's not the room to get the right angle before whatever you're using (paperclip, twist tie, etc) intersects with the horizontal surface of the ceiling. And you have the additional issue that if the device has been installed for a while outdoors, it is likely somewhat stuck together with debris, dirt, etc, so you are turning with one hand in a tight space and twisting the device with the other. Since there's no tactile feedback from the clip mechanism, you don't know if it's stuck due to the clip not disengaging, or just due to the device itself being somewhat gummed up. It's not easy. I stand by my claim that it is poorly designed.
+Liutauras Kentra sorry for the delayed response. Glad it helped. If there is anything else you'd like to see about networking or Ubiquiti products let me know!

Not a problem. I always tell folks to like and share. Chances are you know somebody who might benefit from it.
This video is 6 years old! And the method still works today.
It's my RUclips pride and joy
I used a cable tie. Worked like magic. Thanks a lot.
You sir are brilliant. You saved me so much aggravation and I thank you! With the use of a flattened paper clip it popped the device right off the mount
Not a problem, glad it helped.
OMG you are my hero. I put mine in years ago and couldn't remember how to take it off for a hard reset. THANK YOU!!!!!
Not a problem sir, glad I could help. Also couldn't help noticing, is that a KC-10, or KC-46?
My savior. Impossible to uninstall without this tutorial. Saved me from smashing it off the wall. Thank you
Not a problem!
Thankyou so much! It’s funny to see how frustrated we are to take it off from wall and when we popped in the cable tie it just spin and off right away. Lol

I’m sorry he don’t find it earlier
Thank you very much, I spent half hour trying to do it before I saw you.
No problem!!! Glad I could help!
Thank you for this video. I had to use a paper clip ( medium size) . I put a 1/4 inch bend on the end, gave it a slight twist and it unlocked.
Sorry for the delayed reply, but I'm glad I could help.
Thank you. I knew there was an easy way to get it off the mount. I just didn't remember what it was.
No problem glad it continues to help folks
Thanks for the video. The "specialty" 😆 tool I utilized was a Starbucks drink stirring stick to open the bracket and a toothpick for the reset button.
I've also seen popsicle and corn dog sticks substituted successfully.
Timely and superb! I messed around trying to unlock mine with no luck. I will try your trick with the "specialized tool". Thank you!
Hope this worked out
thanks for this simple but important way to get off the wall!
Glad I was able to help!
You are a god. I was going insane trying to remove one of my AP's
I appreciate the compliment. I honestly just wanted to save people time.
Thank you. I ordered my "special" part from Amazon - Same day delivery... LOL. Worked like a charm!
So happy to help!
Thanks for posting this. Bought a house, came with them, no clue how to get them off.
Glad I could help
Thanks, you saved me a broken clip!
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to upgrade to a WiFi 6 AP and was worried on how to go about detaching the existing one from the ceiling.
Glad it helped, this is about 5 years old now and still going strong!
dude!!! you saved the day!!! thank you!!! I was about to cut the ceiling... LOL
Yeah, you wouldn't be the first. But I'm glad my little bit helped!
very helpful. I've been stumped for days on the removal. wow. I wish I could use your expertise to help me figure out why the device continually goes offline.
Do you have an all UniFi network? Are you using just a power injector or rubbing Poe to a switch
Thank gosh someone made a video.. thanks!
Glad I could help. If you ever have any UniFi requests please ask.
It might be a good idea to use a Sharpie and place a small dot on the edge of the access point to show where the slot is. It’s hard to see the slot from below.
Not a bad idea!
@@NoName-lq6vw Just feels like this was bad design, and very irritating to remove the AP once it is mounted
Agreed it’s far too fiddly. Just make it easy and simple. I cut the tabs off.
Awesome. Thanks so much. Now I gotta clean my dirty fingerprints off haha
Glad it helped
@@BelowAverageUtahDad oh yeah, I was on the ladder thinkin' why isn't this thing turning lol
Still very useful video, thanks a lot 😁
Glad it helps!
That’s very helpful. Thank you!
Glad it helped
This video saved me from going crazy. Best video ever.
Glad I could help

Thanks, any suggestion on where I can purchase the specialized tool? All I've got is a box of paperclips and they're sadly not wrapped in paper. ;-)

Thank you for sharing. I hope it works for me! This could save me tons of time.
Happy to have helped. You really only need to lift that tab a very small amount to get it to turn off the bracket.
Thank you! You saved my bacon.
That seems to be the general response. It's kinda strange there isn't a simple how to in the box. Glad it helped.
Also a zip tie works great.
This is true. Pretty much anything flat will work.
Zip tie unifi unmounting crew!
Awesome - this was so helpful!

+koipin it's a bread twist tie
you the man!!!
thank you very much :)
You're very welcome
Amazing job bro Amazing!!!! thank you!!!
No worries!
easy peasy sir.. thankyouu
Glad it helped
Paperclip bent and stuck in there worked for me; "special tool" was too weak.
Yeah the newer metal mounts need something a bit more erect.
Thank you for this.
No problem!
Like everyone else in the comments, you save my day! 😍
Yeah it's pretty silly how easy it is with just something small. Like a paperclip or bread twist tie.
Save my Day!!! Thanks!!!
No problem
Where can I buy the specialized tool? is it offered on Amazon?
It is just anything small and flat with semi rigid stability. If you contact the support team they'll probably send you one.
Thanks Devin, just the info I needed.
Glad the video helped! If you ever have any UniFi requests feel free to ask.
THANK YOU!!!!!

Thanks so much for the tip.
Glad to help!
bless you man

What/where do I get that tool?
Thanks!
From a loaf of bread! Or you know anything at a bakery.

I find it a right pain to open. I cut the tab off. It stays in place fine.
Thanks bruh
Not a problem! Glad I could help.
where do you purchase the removal tool
It is literally a bread twist tie.
What about UAP-AC-M ? :)
Hmmm if you are talking about the pole bracket that would require a screwdriver.
perfekt
Thanks
Not a problem
didnt you think that we would to know how to put it back onto the wall??
I operate under the assumption that you put it on the wall once already and you can figure out how to put it back on the wall.
@@BelowAverageUtahDad ok bro. I'm still thankful for your video
So what is this specialised tool? I've tried all kind of things and it dosen't want to come out. Such a crap design
Hey joker,
I used the twist tie from a load of bread, but you can use anything as long as it goes in straight. What's nice about the wider flat twist tie is it raises the latch just high enough, and covers the whole area.
@@BelowAverageUtahDad Thanks mate, I will give that a go. 👍
Good video. I just think unify uses a bad design.
What is the tool?
+A.J. Choudhry a bread twist tie
Ha, I used a metal wire.
now mount it to the ceiling and removing it from the bracket with your specialized tool....
You can actually see a similar request in another of my videos. I mount the AP to a wall.
My secret tool is 2 zip ties
Whatever works I say!! If it is more difficult than you think it should be, that's your answer.
You should let us idiots know what the special tool is. It looks like a bread tie! Is that right? 🤓
For all of the idiots like myself, yes, it is a bread twist tie. But a coffee stirrer will work as well! Cannot confirm but been told toothpicks might do the job.
Truth! ????
I still cant do it Xd
You can also try a micro screwdriver. Or a paperclip. You should also gently pull on the UAP as you turn it.
This doesn't work reliably. If the tab doesn't lift sufficiently, there's no way you can rotate the AP. Really dumb design by ubiquiti.
