Wow, I was searching everywhere for a video where someone would show underneath to see if you could fit a sponge on the inlets. Not only did you show us that you then went and added the sponges! Thank you!
@@dc99yt Maybe you could attach the sponge to the outside with sewing thread? Might be a bit fiddly and I haven't tried on this filter but I've seen it done on some other filters before.
Hello! Im so glad you showed the intake sponge trick where you did the small customisation which was super clear, and also how you included the max flow. Not many people show that and that certainly helped! 👍🔥
Excellent! Just what I was looking for in terms of proofing it for small creatures; bonus at the end is that you put it on a cube just like the one I want to buy. Brilliant!
Brilliant, thanks , now we have the perfect filter for most people, that little bit of modification completes the picture, and it didn’t appear to restrict the flow rate at all , great filter a little more expensive than the average but more than worth. It ...Pity you didn’t narrate but no need to really was there , great way to show details, well done .
I placed a plastic mesh at the bottom of mine so the sponge does not get squished into the open holes and limit water intake. No overflow and much better filtration I have found. Full flow and no bypass. I use about 3 inches of course sponge. Half inch of filter floss, a bag of Seachem Matrix and a bag of Seachem Purigen. All fits with no restrictions. Crystal clear water.
The first thing you should do is drill 50 more holes in the bottom of the media basket for better water flow. I cover all my intakes with polyfil then 2 layers of poly in between 2 coarse sponge layers, purigen layer then topped with matrix and can go 3-4 months without disturbing the inside filtration.
So very informative... hope to see more tips and advices from seachem... your hang on filter hob is versatile... eventhough its so expensive in my country. I will get one for my 25 gallon curve type aquarium... can you please tell me where should i put the setting lever on my 25 gallon aquarium tank. So my fishes wont getting stressed on the water flow?
Is it true that with the skimmer, that very little is drawn in from the lower intake on the Tidals? Or is it just grumpy folks in the comments? Pondering getting one. Thanks.
Nice, I love my Tidal 35. I use it in my 87L Fluval vista tank filled with goldfish. My setup contains polyester fill on the bottom, then the stock blue sponge, the matrix, and finally I add a bag of Activated Carbon. My water is crystal clear.
Nicely done video and it was interesting to watch. However, I don't think putting a sponge in the filter inlet is a very good idea unless you really need to prevent a very small fish fry or tiny shrimps to get inside. In a normal situation, you should allow bigger particles and debris floating in the water to get inside of the filter, and it's the job of the internal sponge (the one placed in the basket) to filter bigger particles, dirt, and other tank debris. If you put a sponge in the filter inlet it will get clogged very quickly due to its tiny capacity defeating the whole purpose of the filter, and you'll be forced to clean that sponge much more frequently as if you'd normally clean the filter otherwise. I really don't recommend doing it unless you have a very specific reason for putting a sponge in the inlet, like very small fish or shrimp.
Since tge pump mainly draws water in from the side inlet and all around the bottom of the pump I doubt that it pulls much water from the surface unless the bottom and side got clogged.
I just ordered one and was wondering if you had a recommendation or link to the foam you cut to size for inside the media chamber/ sponge for intake slots (not sure if you addressed that already in the comments). Great video!
If you’re referring to the chamber, there is a blue sponge that comes with it, included in the box. You could use it as a reference to cut more foams. If you’re referring to the in take that I slot it in. I am using the typical inlet sponge that you could buy in your local fish shop and cut into the size that would fit in. They look like a cylinder shape sponge with hole. I would recommend the smaller one.
Want to get this for my 20 long planted tank along with my Aquaclear 20 would that be too much filtration ? And doing that sponge will keep shrimp and fry from getting sucked in
got to remove it first, then you may change with a new piece or wash it. Use the current one to cut for a new or spare pieces. I always keep an extra as a cutting model incase I needed to cut a new piece for almost every sponge or wool for my filters.
I saw a video complaining about the surface skimmer being incredibly loud when the water level was to low. I fill my 20 gallon open top rimless tank close to the top once a week during water changes. Have you noticed this being a common problem? Would I be fine with my weekly maintenance schedule?
As long as you have the water surface level high enough to keep the Outflow Ramp under the Surface, as seen here, Tidals are very quiet. It's okay to "top up" between Water Changes, as long as you keep to your schedule.
I have a pretty thick background and was wondering if this HOB will clear it? I'm using a AC 110 and it's fine.. but this filter looks a bit tighter for clearance.. your thought's? thanks Joe
Far too many *RUclips "Experts"* getting *"Creative"* with Tidals and then far too often *"complaining about Bypass",* when all they have done is defeat the design through *operator error.*
The more media you have in the filter, the more beneficial bacteria that will help to keep your Ammonia in check. Just have to make sure it doesn't restrict the return flow. And I would NEVER put extra media in the intake because it will cause your pump to work hard and possibly cause it to burn out prematurely!
Seachem basically tried to do something so stupid as to add the surface skimmer to a filter which is not needed unless you don’t do water changes often also 70 percent of the filter water is from the skimmer the ones that have the telescopic tube don’t even suck in dirt from there because is so weak because it is using the skimmer as its primary intake also it’s not a self-cleaning impeller you need to clean that or you will notice your water not flowing as well and your motor will burn out.

the slots are too wide, a small cardinal tetra could get sucked in.

Too many channels nowadays are pushing the channel itself, or the creator, instead of what you were there to see. This video was FANTASTIC
Thank you for making a filter video less than 28 minutes long.

I love this Tidal. I have model 35 in sleeping room ( 63 L aquarium ). Absolutely silence ! Great stuff. I can reccomend.
That sponge in the filter slots is very useful for my breeding tank so the baby frie don’t get sucked up
Thank you for a straightforward easy to follow setup guide with pro tip. Just installed mine!
Glad it helped!
incredible akward filter to service! I replaced it with an eheim liberty wow so easy and comfortble ta handle! I love it

Perfect, just got one. There's a spot between the media case and the filter to add addition coarse filter.
I had wondered if you could put sponge on the inside of the skimmer! 🙂👍
Has it worked out ok in actual use?
Awesome video, right to the point no BS
Great detail installing filter materials, best on RUclips. 😊

Shouldn’t be anything that big floating around.
It looks monstrous on that tank
Where did you get that foam at the beginning of the video?
Do more videos! I like this video so i subscribed!
I've always went with aqua clear but that is a cool filter
I'm a try this on my two 110s. 👍
What light are you using on that tank? Plz provide link or specs.
can you also do this mod for the other tidals? thanks!
Great video!

Great video! I'm assuming the small customisation at the start prevents small fish and shrimp from getting sucked up?
Nice, it deserve more views and like
how often do you need to change the filter sponge and filter media?
Whats the size of this tank and how many gallons?

Does it push sufficient air into the water this way ? looks very nice
Is the inlet sponge included?

There’s nothing wrong with over filtering, for my 20 long I got 2 aquaclear 30’s and a sponge filter
How is the noise? What is the quietest hang on back filter without use of cartridges.
Hi, congratulazioni for the idea. How do you wash the black sponge pieces? Remove the Whole body of the filter?

@@BehindTheScape yes TY.. too narrow for my background..
Where did you buy the sponge form?
Where can I buy the tidal 35 nowadays?
this would've been the perfect filter if they have a tube extended at the bottomas well as a surface skimmer. i would but it in a heartbeat
Use egg crate foam at the bottom first. Allows more surface are with less clogging .
What sponge did you use for the intake mod? Where can I buy it?
Just bought that filter and i iove it, but on mine the impeller rattle, did someone experience the same thing with their unit ?
Beautiful Hands. . 😍
Thank you
Hi, how often should the black sponges be cleaned?
It depends on your tank. I do it when I needed to clean the filter
@@BehindTheScape how often, in your case? Give your exemple, pls.
👍more views of the tank plz
Do they make this filter for a 55?
I’ve used this filter but with these extra foam the flow drops a lot

What a talented guy, please help to share.
It will be too big for 10 gallon tank?
Nope.. it is just nice..

such a good filter. Then why do you feel you need to modify it?

Does it already come with media?
Blue sponge and seachem matrix included
I use this on a 3d background and mine fits ok Get yourself some pumice stone
Why isnt this the industry standard ?

yes, all nice but you don't know if it's silent !!
it is silent.. im using the tidal 55
One fault with this filter is the poor design for skimming bio film from the surface it's non existent for performance. Will need a skimmer .
I thought it was a printer machine.
i think its big and ugly, when i look on your tank i see first big black filter, later tank and (so nice) lamp ;)
If you think this filter is to complicated take a look att the eheim liberty
