Rinat Ibragimov, principal double bass of the London Symphony Orchestra, together with Catherine Edwards, performs Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf's Double Bass Concerto, originally written in Es Major but performed here a semitone lower.
This popular piece of double bass repertoire is commonly called for in auditions, and here Rinat demonstrates its performance using the original bass part and the Viennese Tuning that would have been in vogue at the time of its composition.
Rinat plays a d-bass by Matheus Albany, a gift from his colleague and friend Alexander Stepanov. He uses Pirastro Eudoxa strings.
Watch Rinat's performance of Vanhal's bass concerto here:

Hey listen kid. If you want to make it as a professional bassist, you go out and you do it. Don't take any crap from anybody. But work your freakin ass off. If you want it, you can do it. I am currently a grad student pianist at Manhattan School of Music. When I was your age, I wouldn't have believed I would make it this far. I am proof that it can work with a lot of hard work and dedication. Also, I was really good friends with this kid in high school who now plays bass in Cleveland Orchestra.

@PorcupineFloyd68 Thanks for your comments. What Rinat was trying to emphasise was that these pieces were originally written in Es Major. His performance here is in D Major due to the problems associated with transposing the entire accompaniment. I've clarified the descriptions to make this clearer.

I just wanted to say that you are quite possibly my favorite bassist ever, and you're definitely my inspiration to push myself harder. Your music is truly amazing and the beauty and tone you get out of the bass is phenomenal. 17 year old here--I've been working on this piece for three years. I got the music for it near Christmas in 2009 and I still don't have it where I want it. I'm happy with it, but not satisfied. It's my baby; you come to love the pieces that take the most out of you to play, but that doesn't mean it gets any easier.
Learning it was easy--you can learn it completely within a month if you work at it every day. But learning it is just the first step of a very, very long journey.

One thing I love about an orchestra instead of a acoustic I would have to go with the electric so everything would have to be electric in the orchestra that I would use for a concert in a Hall that's less echobut, I noticed that when you guys play the barbican music center I definitely has less echo in it. Is the kind of music center that I'm talking about thenational youth orchestra definitely was in the barbican music center for a couple of performances or concerts that they have which definitely has over a hundred musicians which I would use they have a hundred sixty-five musicians I would use more than a hundred sixty-five just go with the 280!

The orchestra finally looks like the way it does today just a couple of things, and the baroque era I'd rather use a hundred eighty in the orchestra 282 200 and 90 in the chorus definitely 280 actually 288! In the classical era 400 but at the end of the classical. Classical era 800! For the orchestra in the classical. 200 at the end 400., What would you say if I actually had a microphone that can actually attached to the music stand and an amplifier or a whole bunch of them on stage? Cuz I love a strong orchestra and I love a strong opera singers and I love a strong pianist but with the electric grand piano electric orchestra electric opera singer and electronic symphony chorus, concert wise whether it's a opera or a symphony or a ballet the whole orchestra would definitely be on stage. I love a great orchestra any questions?
