I too have this problem from childhood. Now i am 35. Have not stopped. But there are remedies.. 1) I prefer driving. When you drive you dont get that, 2) If travelling in bus, then just stand and travel. Your brain will know that you are in motion. 3) Stomach should not be too full or empty. Need to take easily digestible food an hour before travel. 4) Try sleeping immediately in car. If you dont get sleep apply amrutanjan which gives strong smell and that will help in sleeping. 5) There are nausea patches available at medical shops. 6) In car sit in front and dont ever try to turn your head. Just look straight. 7) Hear music in ear phone and close your eyes, 8) Open window.. These are some of my tricks from my experience to overcome motion sickness. I hope it will help someone.
I have motion sickness since my childhood, I prefer driving at any given chance. If I needs to be a passenger, I prefer front seat and not using mobile phone on travel helps me a lot. Sitting straight or keep watching outside helps too. I do not prefer diesel cars, van or bus. Without an option I always choose a good AC semi or sleeping coach and choose the front or middle seats. I never felt motion sickness in bikes, flights or train travel that would be my first choice of travel. Prefer Night travel & Sleeping quickly as possible helps a lot. Avoid taking tablets or any nausea medications on travel or it will be a habit. I will have lemon, orange or any fresh citrus juices if i feel dizzy and eat non oily light foods while traveling helps too. At long travels, Make multiple stops as possible for refreshing helps a lot too.

The best remedy for motion sickness is to get a view of the road in front.. sitting next to the driver gives the best view. In relation to your scientific reason, the brain knows the path in advance and hence the signal to the brain is not confused.. I have suggested to many including my daughter and it works.. Trick that worked for me is to eat before traveling, not too lite, but the time gap of food intake and time we start the journey should not be too long, this worked for me all the time

I experienced it by reading books in moving bus. When we reading books in moving bus, our eyes signalling that we are in rest, but our ears signalling that we are moving. It leads to me feel vomiting, so suddenly I will see outside, so in few seconds I'll be alright.
I have this motion sickness for a long time over 25 years. I usually prefer train travel so why going thru train doesn't affect my body, it doesn't stop and go more often that's the main reason motion sickness not happens. There's going to be some situation's that I can't avoid going thru a car in that situation, I only go if my friend driving so that I can't guide him to not the brake hard and push acceleration aggressively, as long as he can drive smooth the motion sickness doesn't happen to me. If anyone having this motion sickness, try it that way and enjoy adventures with your friends.

Great content! I get motion sickness in car or bus too but I used to wonder why I don’t get if I’m driving. I guess the brain gets signal visually whenever I increase/decrease speed or brakes as well and avoids confusions.

Hi Dude I am 33 and I still suffer from this problem. I could not travel in bus from the age of 4 until I finished 12th. Puking all the time. Completing a journey in a bus at that time was a very big hurdle for me. Affected psychologically. Always paranoid. Anxiety problem. This has changed my attitude and behaviours completely. There is this period which comes in every one’s life, that we will be wasting all of our time and resources. At that point of time, I so badly want to win over all my anxiety problem and take control of my body. I read lot about this motion sickness. What you are claiming about this fluid position that sends signals to the brain regarding if we are in motion or idle and the mismatch creates this motion sickness is absolutely true. I have mentioned that after 12th like at the age of 17, I have stopped puking in bus. I figured this was because I grown little bit taller than this front seat and I am able to see the road and my visual is telling my brain that I am travelling and the body movement is going to happen when the bus is taking right of left. Ever since I figured this out, I always try to sit in a place just behind the driver so that I have clear vision of the road. In this way brain signal mismatch does not happen. This was actually the time I have started enjoying bus travels. But still the solution does not help if the driver drives like a maniac. For eg taking right or left either in a car or bus, it has to be smooth. Like consider taking a glass full of water and the water should not spill while the bus or car takes right or left. Else no one can stop the puking. Imagine still living with this problem and travelling to Kolli hills in Namakkal which has 70 hair pin bends. There is absolutely no way you can stop the puking, be it in car or bus. But I have found solution for this too. Costed me little bit. Actually the solution sort of become an addiction for me. YES!! I started travelling in a car and that too on a condition that I will be the one driving. Exactly, in this way the visual signals are in perfect sync with my brain signals, cause I know if I am going to take right or left or hair pin U turn or acceleration or de acceleration everything. So nowadays when travelling in a bus I always choose the front seat where the visual of the road is very clear but still prefer no bus for mountain travel, whereas in car or bike, mountain or terrain, I should be the one who drives. Else 🤮 Hope this long message will help or understand the problem for someone who is struggling like me. Win over the motion sickness by following the above suggestions. Take control of your body. That is very very important for people who is suffering from motion sickness.

I experience motion sickness only on hairpin bends. I take Avomine tablet one hour before the travel starts. That helps.

I am 33 and I still suffer from this problem.
I could not travel in bus from the age of 4 until I finished 12th. Puking all the time. Completing a journey in a bus at that time was a very big hurdle for me. Affected psychologically. Always paranoid. Anxiety problem. This has changed my attitude and behaviours completely.
There is this period which comes in every one’s life, that we will be wasting all of our time and resources. At that point of time, I so badly want to win over all my anxiety problem and take control of my body. I read lot about this motion sickness.
What you are claiming about this fluid position that sends signals to the brain regarding if we are in motion or idle and the mismatch creates this motion sickness is absolutely true.
I have mentioned that after 12th like at the age of 17, I have stopped puking in bus. I figured this was because I grown little bit taller than this front seat and I am able to see the road and my visual is telling my brain that I am travelling and the body movement is going to happen when the bus is taking right of left. Ever since I figured this out, I always try to sit in a place just behind the driver so that I have clear vision of the road. In this way brain signal mismatch does not happen.
This was actually the time I have started enjoying bus travels.
But still the solution does not help if the driver drives like a maniac. For eg taking right or left either in a car or bus, it has to be smooth. Like consider taking a glass full of water and the water should not spill while the bus or car takes right or left. Else no one can stop the puking.
Imagine still living with this problem and travelling to Kolli hills in Namakkal which has 70 hair pin bends. There is absolutely no way you can stop the puking, be it in car or bus.
But I have found solution for this too. Costed me little bit. Actually the solution sort of become an addiction for me.
YES!! I started travelling in a car and that too on a condition that I will be the one driving. Exactly, in this way the visual signals are in perfect sync with my brain signals, cause I know if I am going to take right or left or hair pin U turn or acceleration or de acceleration everything. So nowadays when travelling in a bus I always choose the front seat where the visual of the road is very clear but still prefer no bus for mountain travel, whereas in car or bike, mountain or terrain, I should be the one who drives. Else 🤮
Hope this long message will help or understand the problem for someone who is struggling like me.
Win over the motion sickness by following the above suggestions. Take control of your body. That is very very important for people who is suffering from motion sickness.

Very informative video, especially the fluids in the ear canal helping the brain to understand our orientation was 🔥I had motion sickness till school days, started getting better once I started traveling in bus often to college. My daughter has the same problem now, she is 2.5 yrs old. I was looking for something for her, but unfortunately we live abroad so can't have the windows always open especially when you go in highways.

Best remedy is for her to get a view of the road in front.. middle rear seat should work..
Try having a ice cream before starting the trip and focus on the road or sceneries on the way. or Try having a ice-cream after you start feeling the vomiting sensation. Keep the windows open for fresh air. (If not possible turn off the Car's AC and use ventilation (Fan) system alone so that you get fresh air from outside.)
1. Driving helps to prevent the motion sickness as you are driving and your brain is already focused on multi-tasking. 2. Keeping fresh air will help you. 3. Avoid phones such as playing games, as you have to keep your head down focused on the phone while the traveling jerks make your body uncomfortable and it will result in motion sickness. 4. Some people have a dry grape (Raisin) in the mouth to keep the motion sickness feeling away but that never worked for me. 5. Lemon or Citrus based fruits such as orange helps your keep fresh with the smell and it's chemical compound. (Not only lemons but I have tried with Petrol, chicken 65, old spice [After shave lotion] these are all basically the smells you naturally love.) 6. Ice cream before starting the travel or after the vomiting sensation occurs helps to maintain the PH level balanced immediately as this worked well when I was a teen. These days I never tried as i got used to travel in buses and it never affected me these days. (Sometimes when there is no fresh air it feels nauseated. However, it is common for all with no fresh air. specially in traffic jams.)
