Thanks for showing this camera. That was my favorite Super-8 camera 40 some years ago when I was shooting seious Super-8. This camera has a very rare feature: you could remove it's lens and, with an adapter, put your 35 mm camera lens. I had a 200mm telephoto lens that gave a focal length around 1000mm on a Super 8. That was fantastic to shoot animals and birds.
Great review, glad I found you guys. I just bought the 706 model and can't wait to give it a try. Where do you typically send your film for development?
Hey Michael! I appreciate the hands on review. Strongly considering this model to shoot with for an upcoming project. Does the 708 have filter threads on the lens barrel? If so what size threads? Cheers!
Someone recently on the Facebook page "Super 8mm", posted photos of Argus 818 super 8 and is asking about battery compartment they cant locate. If you do know the answer and that page, if you're not already there, that would be awesome.
Hey, I picked one of these up but its hard to find 1.35volt batteries in canada! Do you think if I used 1.5 volt batteries would it make much difference?
can you tell me how to open the button battery cover? I have a ver y similar cam, Cosina super 8, seems to be older than this model but its almost the exact design.thanks!!
@@FilmPhotographyProject thanks but the cover doesn't turn, I think the battery has gone fatter and I just can't do it, seems to be pushing the cover so hard :_(
I set correctly focus ring but i found an intresting problema.... Real problem Is INFINITY FOCUS ....maybe lens Need setting by Expert because quel you turn to infinite focus image on viewfinder Is not full centered. If you want full center Need work on zoom.....
just got this exact camera off eBay.. very clean inside and out.. even stated that it still works!.. however I put 4 brand new batteries in to the grip..and nothing happens.. battery check light not working either..tried a few sets of batteries but nothing. looks like there is only one way to put the batteries in, don't know if. doing something wrong or I got played from the seller..any thoughts??
Definitely inform the seller. You could grab some DeOxit - great for contacts and always useful on old gear contacts. Hope it works out....great camera! ( www.amazon.com/DeoxIT-DN5-Mini-Spray-nonflammable-solution/dp/B000RGD9PK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497478456&sr=8-3&keywords=deoxit )
Michael Raso I sent the seller a message that it wasn't working like stated in his description, let's see if he gets back to me with some kind of solution..maybe there's a trick to it..I don't know. definitely try to clean the contacts. but everything is super clean already?! fingers crossed I can get it working..
@@rumblerodz13 My 708 also started having that issue, so I modified it to use 9-volt batteries and it is working great. I my case the battery holder eroded somewhere inside and was no longer useful, so I kept it for parts. Hope you got yours fixed by now.
Not a big deal, but fussy Argophiles would say the movie cameras bearing their name don't count because they were made after Argus was bought by Sylvania, who made things and slapped the Argus name on them. Argoholics usually insist the timeline ends in in 1962 with the Argus Autronic II.

Does the pistol grip take 2 or 4 AA batteries? 2 dont seem like they would be a snug fit
