    When I started following your channel, Sr. Chief, I did some stoichometric research on AR and I didn’t understand why you added the nitric in increments, but I reasoned that because you are the expert for these processes, you knew something not greatly discussed on the interweb. I just stumbled on this video and NOW I get it. Thank you for your entertaining instruction! 👍👍👊👊

  • @michael3263
    @michael3263 6 лет назад +2

    Interesting approach. You can reclaim some of that nitric acid by bubbling the nitrogen dioxide through water and then distilling to concentrate it. It won't get all of it but that would allow you to recycle some of your nitric acid.

  • @pneumatic00
    @pneumatic00 7 лет назад +1

    Absolutely fantastic demo. Superb. The only mistake I believe you made is: When you made the premix AR you went 4:1 HCL to Nitric. At 25:45 you say the 50 ml leftover AR probably contains 8 ml nitric. No, I say 10-12 ml nitric. Then, on the second redissolve where you've combined the two batches and are "reusing" the leftover premix AR, you calc that you'll need 36 ml Nitric. I agree. You start by adding 15 ml new nitric over and above the premix...then just a bit more, in single ml doses. Be that as it may....right or wrong on the math, because you are stingy with your nitric and only add it in the small increments, you made your main point *a second time*. Terrific video, excellent, can't say enough good things about your technique.

      @sreetips  7 лет назад

    Very,, very informative. This eliminates the use of urea to kill the nitric acid. Now I need to buy/build a fume hood.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  6 лет назад

      (Incremental nitric dosing to dissolve gold) and (inquarting the gold with silver then parting with nitric acid) are the two most beneficial things that I have ever learned in my gold refining experience. Sometimes I over shoot with the nitric. When I do, I never use urea. Instead, I use sulfamic acid to kill excess nitric. Sulfamic acid is tile cleaner from Home Depot, about $8 for a pound.

    • @georgehollowell5000
      @georgehollowell5000 6 лет назад +1

      That is good to know about the sulfamic acid. I can use urea as I already have about 2 lbs of it that I inherited. Have you ever done a video on the environmentally safe way to dispose of spent chemicals? I am not a chemist and am worried about waste chemical disposal.

      I have bought some gold covered pins on EBay. Hopefully they will be ok for my first attempt.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  6 лет назад +2

      Gold covered pins are gold plated. There is a very thin coating of gold over a base metal. Usually brass or copper, but sometimes steel. Steel will not dissolve very well in nitric acid. Use a magnet to see if you have steel or brass as base metal. In any case, the amount of gold will be very small. And you must use a sulfuric acid stripping cell to deplate the gold. It would be a hard first-time experiment to pull off. I've done milspec pins by dissolving the base metal (nonmagnetic brass) with hot dilute nitric acid, then dissolving the resulting gold foils in aqua regia, but it took a long time and used much acid. Good luck with your refining experiments.

    I'd also like to thank you I feel like with the instruction you gove in this video ill be able to reproduce the process. I have around 2000 grams of recycled gold bars, I'm going to melt them down into little bb sized shots and then use your instructional video here to see home much gold i can actually get out of them. I live in the country in the sticks and Ive ordered so much lab equipment this week off amazon I'm pretty sure they are going to think im aetting up a meth lab. But i have the confidence now to really give it a try. I've been thinking about trying for some time and ive been buying up recycled gold when i can get it super cheap on ebay. I'd be happy if i got a 10% return on the gold 20 grams off of 2000 grams id be happy it would at least pay for the equipment and maybe next batch will turn a profit. I also won an order of 0.87 pounds of 24k gold flake. I shouldnt have to do anything to that correct? Id hatecto melt it down to a bar and it have some impurities in it. I'm new to all this so im not exactly sure these first few time will definitely be experiments and hopefully i get it right. And again Thanks a million for you video's so far they are by far the best inatructional videos I've seen!! 👍👍

    Great video. Is it possible to recover silver out of the waste solution?

  • @thebhut3446
    @thebhut3446 9 месяцев назад

    Idk if it's right but has been working for me is I add a few tbsp of sodium bicarbonate to knock down the nitric. If I accidentally put too much sodium bicarbonate the SMB won't react and then I just put back on the heat and that releases the SO2. Sreetips way is WAY better of course less waste of chemicals but as a back up I do this been working

    I know this one of your older videos so hopefully you see this and can respond. Also, you've probably covered this before, so sorry for asking again: What is the difference in processing the gold twice? I assume it makes it more pure the more times you process. Can you put some numbers to the difference between the first and second time? Also, in the second run you disolved the paper filter along with the gold. Does that stay in the solution or "fume off", and does it cause any impurity with the final gold?

      @sreetips  Год назад +1

      Every time I dissolve, filter, precipitate, the gold gets cleaner through each cycle, to a point. Then it’s diminishing returns. The paper will disintegrate (not dissolve) and then it can be easily filtered out.

    Where do you get your nitric acid and how much do you pay.

    • @SMOBY44
      @SMOBY44 7 лет назад +2

      Larry, You may do well to make you're own nitric acid. I use concentrated sulfuric acid from Rooto brand drain opener from Ace Hardware (about $20 a gallon) and potassium nitrate from Dudadiesel.com (they supply chemicals for the bio-diesel trade and a 10 lb bag is about $20). Look up Nurdrage on RUclips for the proceedure to make very concentrated (over 90%) or Nile Red on RUclips for standard 70%.

      a quart is expensive i paid 70 dollars for good nitric id have to look at the purity it comes with a heavy brown bottle taped to avoid leakage

    Sreetips, your videos couldn’t be better! Thank you for such solid and straightforward tutorials!
    A real quick question though… I have a batch of AR with placer Gold and Mercury in Solution. I’ve denoxed the AR w/ Sulfamic Acid and diluted w/ 3x water by volume to precipitate and filter any silver. Game plan is to drop AU w/ SMB as usual. After filtering to recover AU my understanding is that I can precipitate Mercury w/ Lye (Sodium hydroxide) to Mercury Oxide. Then Dry and use strong heat to drive off the oxygen to re-claim my liquid Mercury. Does that sound accurate for pulling this off, or is there a better route?

      Cameron, I’ve never used mercury in any of my processes. I don’t have any experience with it.

    I think a very good way to dissolve gold is by adding nitric acid in small portions. Saving nitric acid.
    Считаю очень хороший способ растворения золота прибавляя азотную кислоту небошими порциями. Экономия азотной кислоты.

    I tried the pemix way before I seen your video. After melting the stuff I got out of the mix, I ended up with what looks like copper but weighs more than same sized peice of copper.. also has a lighter copper tone that copper...I have a 1 pound chunk of industrial electrical metal that is 5 to 8 k gold.. I think the other metals are copper, silver..

    What are the filters collecting? Great video on efficiency by the way, incremental dosing is brilliant. I thought I was going to lose my mind when you were adding the sodium metabisulfite. It was a little like Groundhog Day the movie. Thanks for the great info.

      The filters are collecting what filters always collect. Suspended particles of various contaminants. Could be undissolved particles of anything that's not gold.
