  • Watch as I sew a Diane Von Furstenberg vintage wrap dress in a comfy jersey knit. This style is 1970's redistributed Mccalls pattern (link below).
I sewed this dress together using only a sewing machine, with my zig zag stitch set to a width of .5 and a length of 3 for all seams and hems.

So refreshing to see someone sewing without a serger.

Thank you. :) I challenged myself with this one, as I typically sew knits with a serger and cover stitch. It's cheating not to use the sewing machine, though, isn't it? ;)

This dress is a version of the iconic Dianne Von Furstenburg wrap dress, very central to seventies dressing. My mom was so thrilled the day she came home with one!

Thank you for this sew along! It's wonderfully helpful, and has me wanting to make this pattern asap! I bought a bunch of patterns recently, and this was one of them.

Thank you for the lovely comment and for watching the video. ❤️
I picked this pattern up recently, too. I have my eye on some other vintage patterns from Butterick and Simplicity, too. I love these older styles -- even if just for the sweet pattern cover images. 😉
Wishing you a fantastic new dress! 👗

WOW - I didn't realize this tutorial was even available - I've subscribed! A few months back I purchased this very pattern. :D One question - I appear about your size, at 5'4" xs-sm. Which size did you cut?
BTW, I too use a sewing machine and not a serger. Hugely nice to see this demonstrated. As only slightly more than a beginner, all of this info is deeply appreciated. Thank you!

      @@RM-gp4ur hello! 👋 Thanks for subscribing. ❤️
      I am 5'0 and 32-25-34. I have sewn the size 8.
I do own a serger, but, I often find the sewing machine is the better choice, even if just for the convenience of doing everything in one place! 😊

Thanks for this .. the pattern details are uniquely vintage so. that could have been a challenge. I expect the fit is excellent and the wrap will stay wrapped. Do you have any advice on the type of knit to use? I was thinking viscose jersey.

Thank you. The fit is definitely accurate to the chart, so no problems there. Any jersey would be great. Just a little stretch should be fine. Keep me posted on your final make -- I'd love to hear your thoughts on the pattern.

Don’t use a fabric with too much stretch. The skirt is heavy and makes the waist fall too low. Unfortunately I found this out the hard way😢
