Hi H. R. We're really glad you found this video useful. We have so many people writing to us now in the comments section that I'm getting used to replying to them :-) Thanks so much for writing to us and thanks for watching our video.
The best explanation of "used to" I have ever heard! Thank you for it. I’m used to the fact that people who use word 'used to' in wrong way are usually certain about it's meaning :)
Really nice couple! Thank you two for the effort. I'm trying to improve my English and this kind of video is the motivation I need. Thanks again! Greetings from Spain
HI Vicki, I love your videos. Another useful one would be if / when - you'll probably come up with another wonderful video for that - if you haven't done so yet! Keep up the good work, Joan in Munich
Oh god...I think I made many mistakes before watching this video. I thought "to" is always followed by an original form of a verb or noun, but rarely think of gerund.. I will be getting used to it. Thanks a lot.
♥ Vicki ♥ You're from Cambridge? I've been there once and I simply felt blown away! It's such an amazing city! The houses and the gothic architecture are beautiful! ♥
please explain about the tense with using be used to and get used to . In which tense we can or can't use "be used to" and In which tense we can or can't use "get used to"
We can say use 'be used to' in all tenses Apple technologies. For example: I am used to... I was used to... I have been used to... I will be used to... . It's the same with get used to, but remember the past form of get is got. For example, I got used to ... driving on the other side of the road for a while.
Jay: I'm used to the cold out. It's 9º. Vicky takes her sweater off, goes inside, shocked how Jay is still outside, realizes Jay said he's "accustomed" to the cold and it's cold
Yes, Fluency MC used to live near us in the US, before he moved to Paris, which was great because he used to come and stay and we'd be able to shoot lots of scenes together. Now we have to collaborate virtually. We have another friend in Philly though who makes RUclips videos. I'm sure you'll recognise here: ruclips.net/video/ZkUy0yd8cYI/видео.html
Cintia, let us know how your students like the videos. And yes, Marmite and Vegemite are similar. Vegemite is Australian and Marmite is British. According to The Culture Trip website, aside from differences in color and texture "...Vegemite is more intensely gobsmacking than Marmite, which has a milder flavour and even a slight sweetness compared to its meatier Aussie cousin." I hope that explains things.
Hi, Viki, Hope you and your family are all well in this difficult time. When I watched this video today, I came up with some questions, How to form sentences in a nagtive way by using be used to doing and used to do For example: I'm used to drinking tea in the morning - negative sentence: I'm not used to drinking tea in the morning , right ? I used to drink coffee in the morning - what's the negative sentence of this one,/how to form a negative sentence of this one?? Look forward to hearing from you soon. Best Regards Annie
Hi Annie. Great questions! Your first sentence: Yes, that's right. Your second question. This one's really interesting. In a lot of old textbooks you'll see "I didn't use to drink coffee in the morning". Technically this is correct, but it's very infrequent. People would normally say 'I didn't drink coffee in the morning'. Hope this helps.
I used to have a dinner at 8 o'clock but since I have changed my job I am used to have my dinner at 6 o'clock 🙈🙈🙈.. Many thanks and many kisses for you 🌹🌹
+Habib Ali Oh well done! The first part of the sentence is very good (I have my dinner at 8 o'clock) and the second part is very nearly right. You just need to change that second verb into a gerund, (I am used to having my dinner at 6 o'clock). Good job!
Simple English Videos i used to have a dinner at 8:oo oclock but then my job has been changed. I used to get my meal at 6:00 oclock.and now iam used to getting my meal at 6:00 oclock😀 Correct me if im wrong pls.
Hi Vicky , sorry but I didn't catch how to make the proper use of 'used to + verb' and 'be used to+gerund/noun'. Please could you come up with some examples? Thanks a lot.
+fabianologfatec When I lived in the UK, I used to drink tea in the morning, I used to watch British TV and I used to read paper copies of the Guardian newspaper. (Past habits) Now I live in the US, where I do things differently. But I've got used to my new life. (Grown accustomed to it) So now I'm used to drinking coffee in the mornings. I'm used to watching American TV programs and I'm used to reading the Guardian online now. Does that help?
Thank you so much dear madam Vicki and Mr.Jay?Jean?(I'm so sorry ,i don't know how to spell your name just by listening it, my english is so poor...)... Thank you for the video, it's so useful!!! About get used to, in present perfect tense, usually we say : i have got used to eatting rice or i have gotten used to eatting rice? Thank you again !!
Xiaojiao Liu Jay might ask 'Have you gotten used to Vicki's accent yet?' and I might ask 'Have you got used to Jay's accent yet?'. That's because the 3rd part of the verb is different in our two varieties. For Jay it goes, get - got - gotten. For me it goes get - got - got.
are you really used to a Greek word in an English Language training program? It might be former, but I don't think it has the kind twist of fate that we associate with used to. Thanks for watching
Hi Natalya if you are asking where someone normally takes their break, we wouldn't use "used to." We'd probably say : "Where do you usually take your break?" Now the answer might be, "Well I used to take my break in the 4th floor cafeteria, but now I go to the bar across the street." And she might add, "They only serve American beer there and I never used to drink that before, but I've gotten used to it now."
Simple English Videos , i am not english native speaker so i better know which accent is easier because it easy for all native speakers to understand other accents, thank you, you are my best teachers i appreciate you, please keep on, my respect from kurdistan
Thank you!!! It's the only video I found with sketches rather than just the teacher explaining the grammar point.

Oh! I see Fluency MC with you! Great! I guess most popular RUclips English teachers cooperate to make the funniest videos!

Can we use negative form for
(Get used to ....)?
Yes, Mana. We can say things like "I'm not used to..." "Are you used to ...?" and "I haven't got used to..."
Hi Vicky , sorry but I didn't catch how to make the proper use of 'used to + verb' and 'be used to+gerund/noun'. Please could you come up with some examples? Thanks a lot.

Hi! I'm a 3rd year pre-service teacher. I'm supposed to do a micro teaching on 'used to'. Would you mind awfully if I used this video in the class? :)
Please do, Burak. We'd be delighted if it helped your students. Thanks for writing to us and thanks for watching.
Hi there. Can you guys make a video about the differences between "used to" and "would"? It'll be great :-)
Hi Frederic. Great suggestion. Thank you. Let me think about it.

Where are you used to take a break in the middle of the day?
Is it correct???
Hi Natalya if you are asking where someone normally takes their break, we wouldn't use "used to." We'd probably say : "Where do you usually take your break?" @@SimpleEnglishVideos Thank you so much!!!

Why she did she not wear her shoe😀
We often don't wear shoes in our home, Farah. When we come in from outside, we leave our shoes by the door.
