2:44 couldn't agree more with you!
    When that riff hits...my god
You know what interests me now? If you could be totally objective/neutral and forgot this version exists...how would you rate the radio edit? Would it get 10+ points?

      @MidnightNotion  3 года назад +4

I’d rate the radio edit much higher, for sure, but it still has those goofy “we the people” parts I don’t like, and it’s missing the awesome “ominous I’m in us” part, so it’s hard to say.

My favourite song from "St. Anger" album

  • @MetallicaKing48
    @MetallicaKing48 2 года назад +3

This is probably my favorite song off of the album to be fair and fully honest. It feels the most finished, and it has a lot of good stuff, but the radio edit also holds up just as solid if not even better. Maybe if they took the radio edit single and included the midsection, we would have almost a fully perfect song off of the record.

    Weird-ass fact about this song:
At 20:04 in this video you are at 7:24 in the song. For some reason, the RUclips autogenerated upload of this song removes a guitar melody at that part of the song. It's normally in the right speaker. Listen to any other upload of the song (Spotify, other RUclips one) and you'll hear that it's supposed to be there, but just isn't in that upload. Why it gets rid of the melody is way beyond me, but it's the weirdest fucking thing.

It's a perfect example of the anti-Metallica album. Strange composition, bad transitions, awkward lyrics, no solos, intentionally poor production, needless repetition... everything the opposite of what they've proven they know, set to a theme of how much they hated what they had become.

This song to me just sounds quite ear-piercing. The verses and the pre chorus sounds so ugly.
I used to like the song more, but when I compare it to the other songs on this album, it just doesn't do it for me.
My favorite parts about this song are the fast version of the main riff and the chorus. I find this song harder to listen to than purify or My World.
    My St Anger song ranking:
    1. Sweet Amber 10/10
    2. St. Anger 10/10
    3. Frantic 10/10
    4. The Unnamed Feeling 10/10
    5. All Within My Hands 9.5/10
    6. Invisible Kid 8/10
    7. Purify 7.5/10
    8. Shoot Me Again 7.5/10
    9. My World 7.5/10
    10. Some Kind of Monster 7/10
    11. Dirty Window 7/10

I feel like there’s a very, very good 5-6 minute song buried in the 8 and a half minutes of song that’s here.
    Composition: 1
    Memorability: 3
    Emotional Response: 1
    Instrumentation: 3
    Lyrics: 3
Total: 11, but if they trimmed it down, it could easily be 15-16
Edit: I had no clue about the single, that just proves my point. 😂

The single version is also remixed. The snare isn’t “pinging” the whole time. They replaced it with a snappy snare! They should’ve done that for the whole album.

  • @ElIn1064
    @ElIn1064 3 года назад +1

C 1 it must be the notes in between
M 1 because I only remember the title and then absolute blank
ER 1 because it feels so weird and it makes me feel weird consequently. I don't really get why they put so many odd things randomly. Oh and it's too long for the content.
    I 2 because I liked Lars' parts
L 2 I get the main message of the song but that "We the people" bit, I don't really get it. It's so confusing.
    There's better in this record.
I listened to your cover of The Unnamed Feeling and I must say good job! It's refreshing and the solo you cooked up for it is very fitting! I liked it! 😁
One question: are you going to make a comparison between All Within My Hands original and rearranged? I think (and I'm probably not the only one) that the latter gives almost a totally different shade to the song (in a good way). But there's time for it, so no rush.

My overall opinion on songs from st anger (First of all, i dont have a single problem with the mix. The snare almost suits it actually. Its not the greatest production but in my opinion its not any worse than other 2000s productions)
Frantic - Actually in my opinion a very good song. I love the main riff and it overall is a cool song. Propably my favourite metallica song in last 20 years.
St anger - overdone/repetive. I think if the song would have been 3-4 minutes long it would have been great. But instead Its over 7 minutes long and it really drags. Overall wasted potential
Somekind of monster - Some would say that its overdone like st anger and drags but for me there is some form of groove that keeps the song going without getting boring. Also there is a lot of nostalgia involved
Dirty window - Overall its either weird as hell or boring as fuck. For me at least. I never really liked this song
Invisible kid - Kind of meh song. The vocal part that everyone knows is earrape of course but instrumentally without vocals it would be propably pretty ok/good song. Gotta still respect that its very unique metallica song
My world - Propably the worst track for me (or shoot me again) It drags on the same riff quite long with its little variations. Vocals are again earrape like in invisible kid and dirty window which kind of makes me cry. I hate the "sucker" thing james does. I dont know why it exists but everytime i hear it i understand a little better why people dont like this album. Also there is another weird part
Shoot me again - Almost the same thing as my world but it actually has a very cool riff (i quess its the main riff) Otherwise its just stupid in terms of vocals and boring in terms of instruments
Sweet amber - There is many things i like about this song (Breakdown, and the st anger ripoff riff part) But there is a couple things that i dont like. Overall i could listen to it as background music while playing but not the most interesting song
The unnamed feeling - Sort of a comeback to frantic and somekind of monster. In my opinion this song is pretty good. It does not have any Horrible parts or much even any boring parts. It does drag quite much on the main riff idea still so its not as good as frantic and somekind of monster
Purify - The most overhated song by metallica. Of course chorus vocals are earrape and the ending riff is quite boring in my opinion but otherwise this song is great. still not as good as frantic and somekind of monster but better than unnamed feeling
All within my hands - Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill. (yes i like it)
Overall if this album would be instrumental it would change my opinion on songs a lot. There are many cases where the vocals can even ruin a song in this album.

      I’m curious about two things:
1 - Why did you write this comment? You could your Frantic opinions in the Frantic review video, and saved the future songs for future videos. I’m curious why you felt the need to unload such a long comment that wasn’t prompted?
2 - I’ve noticed all of your comments have thumbs up almost immediately after posting, and my videos aren’t THAT popular-are you liking your own comments? 😆

For me the song's score is:
    Composition: 2
The intro repeats which is kinda crap, and that random, almost synth-sounding riff in the outro comes out of nowhere, outside of that, things are about as mediocre as you can get, the snare actually fits here which is a plus, (I know you said not to comment on it, but screw it) but outside of that it's just, meh, not too much to talk about in regards to composition.
    Memorability: 4
The song is undoubtedly the heaviest on the album aside from maybe Invisible Kid, but it beats that song because the bridge isn't god-awful. The main riff is monstrous or should I say "some kinda monster" haha, and honestly, I would love to see them play this live, but it seems unlikely unless it gets enough votes on another "By Request" concert. The refrain after the 3rd verse where he says "yeah" I feel like is a great way to pump up the audience and the "ominous, I'm in us" line is another one to pump up the audience. It just seems like a good pump-up anthem, so for that reason, it gets a four.
    Emotional Response: 3
This song's main riff gets me hyped like none other it just makes you wanna jump, very mosh-worthy. The bridge's "Ominous I'm in us" line sounds like a drunk fan chant if this had been a new band and not Metallica, but I have to deduct a point because, as you said, the thrash part isn't thrash, it's trash, the repeating intro just frustrates me, the "We the people" line doesn't belong in this song or any song for that matter, and that outro riff is one of the many "wtf!?!?" moments on the album, so all-in-all, pretty good.
    Instrumentation: 2
The main riff is definitely the heaviest riff the album has to offer, despite just being 0-3-5, and the guitar tone actually benefits the songs here, similar to the snare, but the prevalent issue of there being no solo once again plagues the song, and the lack of bass kind of holds the riffs back from being capital-G great, so, not bad, but could be better.
    Lyrics: 1
In a way, the lyrics remind me of Eye of the Beholder because it has a very simple lyric-writing pattern that's prevalent throughout the entire song, but the advantage Beholder has with its lyric-writing technique is that it uses different words each time, but here, it just the same description pattern and it really drags, so it's undoubtedly the weakest element of the song.
    Final Score: 12

In The Unnamed Feeling, the snare doesn't sound as obnoxious or loud. That's another good song from the album in my opinion
