I’ve always felt a certain way about Christians living in extravagance, in opulence. Especially when it’s a pastor. However, it’s ok to have nice things, as long as those things don’t have you. That chain is nice but also understated. It’s not opulent. Earrings too. Doesn’t look like you’re flaunting your wealth. Even though the price tag is waaaay out of my range. 🤣
I agree there is nothing wrong with having nice things, but when there is thousands of homeless on the streets, very poor communities in the black neighborhoods and you drop a bag on some worthless chain instead of dropping a bag on building better and more comfortable shelters for the poor, better streets in the black and forsaken neighborhoods, better schools in those nieghborhoods and much, much more, how Christian and of Christ is that? Most people do not realize that most of the things they see celebrities wearing or that they have are not theirs. They are borrowed. And a lot of celebrities seem like they have so much but what you don't see is how in debt they are to such things and how truly unhappy those celebrities are that seem like they got it all together. I believe God doesn't have a problem with us having nice things. He wants us to enjoy life, he wants us to enjoy the things we have. But God does tell us to not be materialistic, do not store treasures on earth but store treasures in heaven, and do not put any other God's before him. Does that mean we can't have jewelry, nice cars, or nice kicks, or nice things? No, He doesn't want our lives to be burdened or harder than it has to be. I believe in all things we need to ask ourselves and consider; is owning certain things or spending a ton of money on a certain things going to cause me to stumble or hinder my spirituality or walk with God!!

I can’t do expensive jewelry because #1 I lose stuff easily. #2 even though some may see the “value,” it just doesn’t have the same value for me…I think of too many other things I rather do with the money, so buying jewelry is just not on the list. Side note: Looking forward to seeing those “streets of gold” where there is no oxidation!
Every dollar you spend on yourself could feed someone, save someone, and house someone. I say limit the amount of money you spend on yourself and not 100,000 or or even 10,000, like I don’t need a little necklace when someone just needs shoes and a bed… I’m not against treating yourself, I’m just not for indulging…

Yes Crea God cares if you wear an expensive jewellery, in the book of mathew 25:15 He gave unto to 1 5 talents, unto another 3 talents and unto the other 1 talents. For me, I don’t wear jewelry because it was never for me but I splurge in completely different ways. I make all mine from metal loops, wire, chain, gemstones I find or buy, etc, and that's my thing, but I don't enjoy expensive necklaces and earrings because I told myself that's not where my worth comes from. As long as you take care of the poor as much as you spend on stuff God is fine with it. The love of money is only a sin if you have the spirit of greed and selfishness. I don’t think it’s a good look for Christians at all. Ask yourself what is the purpose? 1. It draws attention to yourself, it’s not humble. It’s flaunting your pride and wealth. Remember in Mark 12, the rich were about their image and Jesus made sure to let that be known to his disciples. 2. Like you said, money could be more wisely used. 3. It follows the culture of this world. We see repeatedly that we are to separate ourselves from the world. This is why they weren’t to have tattoos, wear certain clothing, etc because they were to be separate from the culture around them. The same should apply to today, as well. Why are we following their culture? I understand we all do to an extent, but when we acknowledge, as you did, “hip hop and jewelry go hand-in-hand” that’s wanting to be apart of the culture so bad “just because that’s the way it is”. Just some things to think about and let marinate.
That's a one sided view. Some wear jewelry in remembrance of something or someone. For some it's just normal because it was part of their upbringing - my dad bought me a chain on my 16th birthday and I loved it - still do. My dad passed on and everytime I wear it (everyday) it makes me feel like my dad is with me and it makes me feel good plus I like how it looks on me. Definitely gonna do the same for my kids. My brothers got theirs too and they rock them with pride. Not everyone does stuff to be seen or validated. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Christian taking care of themselves how they want, just as long as it doesnt strain your relationship with God. Whether I or anyone for that matter wear jewelry or not, God's grace is sufficient.

But common sense among Christians dictates that all scripture is God breathed (2 Tim 3:16-17) and worthy of careful consideration to guide our lives. I'm a fan of Lecrae's work, but I wonder who wrote his songs like "Boasting". The words are all about God why aren't Lecrae's thoughts and considerations all about God? Shouldn't he be using his voice apart from the singing and record labels for God as well? Shouldn't he be teaching a younger generation like me, to go to the scripture for our answers?

I go through this a lot with buying video games or movies. Do I really need to play video games? I used to buy games at 50% off, around $30 years ago. Now, I look at $30 games and I’m like… I can make use of that money to support a child in need of education, food, clothing and shelter through Compassion International for $38. I still feel guilty that I want to buy $8-12 at a local movie theater or digitally.

I think that you took a good, solid route on that. Personally, any jewelry that I wear is just basic cheap stuff. Like I have a couple cross necklaces I bought almost 20 years ago and still wear as well as a couple Zox bracelets my girlfriend cuffed me with lol. I know those "houses" on one's neck can appreciate in value, but never nearly enough to justify it in my mind, especially when you think about A: Losing it B: Damaging it C: If it's big and flashy, you could lose it to some gun-toting sparkle chaser who's too lazy and selfish to get a job. The difference between you and me is that there is a chance that someday you could have some fans who could also be in some $ and be willing to fork it over for something blingy that you've worn at concerts or in videos, and THAT is one option where the jewelry could grow more reliably in value just based on your celebrity. if you think of it as an investment, its not much different than money in your bank. Its a way to store your money in a tangible commodity, something with a very obvious value. If you are ever in a financial crisis later, you can always sell the jewelry or rubies or whatever you purchased. Same concept with investing in fine art.
A small necklace, a ring or a set of earrings for a cheap price tag is good enough for me. But I don't let my religion run my life if I wanna treat myself. BUT, you need to be able to balance how much you spend and how much you save as far as money.

I don’t think it’s a good look for Christians at all. Ask yourself what is the purpose?
1. It draws attention to yourself, it’s not humble. It’s flaunting your pride and wealth. Remember in Mark 12, the rich were about their image and Jesus made sure to let that be known to his disciples.
2. Like you said, money could be more wisely used.
3. It follows the culture of this world. We see repeatedly that we are to separate ourselves from the world. This is why they weren’t to have tattoos, wear certain clothing, etc because they were to be separate from the culture around them. The same should apply to today, as well. Why are we following their culture? I understand we all do to an extent, but when we acknowledge, as you did, “hip hop and jewelry go hand-in-hand” that’s wanting to be apart of the culture so bad “just because that’s the way it is”.

That's a one sided view. Some wear jewelry in remembrance of something or someone. For some it's just normal because it was part of their upbringing - my dad bought me a chain on my 16th birthday and I loved it - still do. My dad passed on and everytime I wear it (everyday) it makes me feel like my dad is with me and it makes me feel good plus I like how it looks on me. Definitely gonna do the same for my kids. My brothers got theirs too and they rock them with pride.
Not everyone does stuff to be seen or validated. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a Christian taking care of themselves how they want, just as long as it doesnt strain your relationship with God. Whether I or anyone for that matter wear jewelry or not, God's grace is sufficient.

This video says "does God care if you wear jewelry?" My major concern is how the video asks a (God) question but receives a (Lecrae) answer. Where is the scripture? Where is careful thoughtful consideration of Gods word? (1 Peter 3:3-4) is just one source, tho the cultural context puts this directed towards women. But common sense among Christians dictates that all scripture is God breathed (2 Tim 3:16-17) and worthy of careful consideration to guide our lives. I'm a fan of Lecrae's work, but I wonder who wrote his songs like "Boasting". The words are all about God why aren't Lecrae's thoughts and considerations all about God? Shouldn't he be using his voice apart from the singing and record labels for God as well? Shouldn't he be teaching a younger generation like me, to go to the scripture for our answers?

I think that you took a good, solid route on that. Personally, any jewelry that I wear is just basic cheap stuff. Like I have a couple cross necklaces I bought almost 20 years ago and still wear as well as a couple Zox bracelets my girlfriend cuffed me with lol. I know those "houses" on one's neck can appreciate in value, but never nearly enough to justify it in my mind, especially when you think about

But if a person enjoys jewelry and they have some money I don’t see an issue with getting something. However I wouldn’t go over the top like $300000. if you think of it as an investment, its not much different than money in your bank. Its a way to store your money in a tangible commodity, something with a very obvious value. If you are ever in a financial crisis later, you can always sell the jewelry or rubies or whatever you purchased. Same concept with investing in fine art.
A small necklace, a ring or a set of earrings for a cheap price tag is good enough for me. But I don't let my religion run my life if I wanna treat myself. BUT, you need to be able to balance how much you spend and how much you save as far as money.
