    Right to Rescue - right on track? Or not getting the right results?

    • @propknot

      Definitely not getting the right results. If there's a time to wear a mask and be anonymous (pun intended), this is the time.

      Bad idea. It was never going to work. It would just set a precedent, and the authorities know this.

      You make a very good case that thr current method of advocating for RTR isn't working - but I think you also make a very good case that simply not showing faces and activists' not voluntarily turning themselves over to the police could be part of a more successful legal strategy of advocating for the RTR. Hopefully folks are listening to criticism and opening to changing strategy here (and don't try to ignore the failures by claiming that they are still getting publicity, as a more successful legal strategy would actually be more successful at garnering more and better publicity anyway).

      Ethically, DXE is on the wrong track. They falsely claim that their few token rescues are motivated only for the animals, but then they run massive fundraisers yielding tens of thousands of dollars supposedly for their legal defense. So their greed already has cost them any moral high ground they otherwise could have claimed.
      And in the previous (North Carolina stolen goat) case, Hsiung incompetently represented himself, with a ridiculous defense that the baby goat was suffering from pneumonia, which was contradicted by DXE's own promotional video evidence. No precedent ever will be set by such a lying fraudulent shyster. The result is that, legally, DXE has done NOTHING to advance the cause of right to rescue.
      The established vegan community wants nothing to do with Hsiung, nor with his corrupt cabal of witless and incompetent followers. DXE are spoiled and dishonest narcissists, as has been documented throughout DXE's brief history, including: the 2015 "Dismantle DXE" testimonials; the 2017 "Steps to Healing Our Community" petition from within DXE; the 2018 statement by renowned vegan feminist scholar Carol Adams; the 2020 _Berkeleyside_ article about Hsiung's farce of a mayoral campaign; etc. DXE's only response to criticism is to falsely label their critics as racists, FBI informers, sexual predators, and/or infiltrators from animal ag. There is nothing special about DXE, other than the diabolically selfish character of their leadership.

    Will you be interviewing more women on R&R? They make up most of the movement but the podcast is almost all men so far. Great men who did amazing things no doubt, but would like to hear from women who rarely get the same attention especially care taking roles which are just as radical.

    • @thecrankyvegan
      @thecrankyvegan  2 года назад +17

      Unfortunately "Caroline" was the only woman we interviewed for season 1. But it wasn't for a lack of trying. Every woman we reached out to said no, or was ill, and some we wanted to talk to had passed on. Caroline was the only one who would do it and only under the condition of anonymity. When you are doing interviews about something this specific, you're really only able to talk to people that can legally talk, and are willing to. And while there were definitely women out there doing this work, they just weren't caught.
      We are working on season 2 now and running into a bit of the same problem, but are trying to remedy it.

    How are you "98% vegan" with all those animals in your wardrobe? Is it just me, or does anyone else not get the disconnect between the fur taboo and leather? Like, of course don't wear leather, but you wear UGGs, which is literal sheepskin, and basically the same process as fur skinning.

    Yeah I think DxE needs to continue to advocate for actual policy reform like it has been doing with getting the city of Berkeley to commit to plant-based procurements and the moratorium on factory farms bill AB 2764 (the latter of which was unsuccessful but such that they did mobilize a diverse coalition behind it outside of the animal movement and is the sort of thing thT I think could be realistically successful with more efforts).

    • @thecrankyvegan
      @thecrankyvegan  2 года назад +2

      Agreed - although I'm much more interested in the fur bans and the factory farm moratorium than a non-binding proclamation that maybe some day the board of directors will talk about plant based options.

    You're ALIVE! As for DXE, these exercises in futility don't help the movement, IMO, and I'm sure the general population perceives them as stupid circle jerks. As for KK, she is not value-added to the world and no one should be influenced by her. If people are, well, whatever. Lastly kudos to the pro-beagle people, activists, jurists, and legislators! Thanks for posting : )

      Well. I am supportive of DxE. They work hard and they are creative in their activism. Open rescue is a principled tactic that exposes the corruption, not only of big, profit driven, corporations but also of the judicial system. I am glad KK has got rid of her fur. The next step in her activism is to get rid of her faux fur. The beagle story is heartening and I believe a positive change is happening in the way that the public and the politicians now view vivisection, testing, and experimentation on other animals. Thank you for the video.🌱

    • @thecrankyvegan
      @thecrankyvegan  2 года назад +3

      @@berniv7375 I think the problem is it's not really exposing much corruption of corporations or the judicial system. It is to us activists, but generally speaking I haven't seen a big uproar from the public at large. But in the meantime, there's a lot of bunch of people getting arrested when maybe they could have achieved the same results without going through the legal process.

    The defendants did not premise the admissibility of the animals’ conditions hardly at all on legal necessity. They did so on the elements of the crimes; i.e., the conditions show that the piglets had no market value, so they could not have been subject to a theft or theft-related burglary. The idea that the conditions were only relevant to a possible necessity argument was the state’s disingenuous strawman narrative. Also, no one was arrested in connection with this rescue, which was in 2017 and was a walk-in, not a break in.

    your using the word "we're"? do you work for PETA or do you just take credit for their work?

    • @thecrankyvegan
      @thecrankyvegan  2 года назад +7

      Neither. But the fight against Envigo, which used to be Huntingdon Life Sciences and Life Sciences Research and Harlan and Interfauna - that fight has been going on for decades in multiple countries around the world, longer than PeTA has been an organization. So what PeTA is doing now is one step in that fight. And one step in the fight against vivisection (which was part of my statement in the video) that hopefully everyone is fighting against.
