Lots of choices! I personally like to buy a sunflower and corn mix and put full peanuts in for the corvids. Thank you for the information!

I had to tell the ppl at the local farm supply store that wild birds don't like cracked corn that is mixed in seed for wild birds. I use black oil seed that has a small amount of dried fruit and peanuts. I buy walnuts and pecans from the baking aisle of my local store and chop them into very tiny pieces for the small birds. For the crows I put out leftover meat and I break up walnuts and pecans into sizes for them them. The crows also like a boiled egg yolk. I found out the hard way that crows will not eat boiled egg whites, they leave it to rot, so does my cat. The cat won't even eat a raw egg white, but happily laps up a raw yolk from a whole cracked egg. I put leftover wet and dry cat food out for the crows too. They eat that after the meat and nuts are finished. I don't use feeders bc my unused parking space works better. The birds prefer to be away from my window bc my cat stares at them. I can scatter the seed and nuts so that a variety of several small birds can feed at the same time. I clean up all the hulls. I also give them a freshly scrubbed stainless steel bowl of fresh water every morning. I have a neighbor that doesn't like me feeding birds. He pretended he had a rifle and was shooting at them. I think he doesn't like the crows making noise. There is only 3 crows that wait in the trees for me to come out with their food. The birds do drink water that I put out. There is a small stream in the woods near me, but it attracts a lot of snakes. I think the birds know that snakes don't like my concrete parking spot. Thank you for the videos.

I buy a 40lb bag of just black oil sunflower seeds: a bag of mixed wild bird seed (cheapest); I bought a 65 lb of peanuts in a shell😖 for ... my crows!!!
I mix all three to get the right combo: the Crows (peanuts); millet for the itsy bitsy teeny tiny birds & Siskins; sunflower seeds (the good ones) for the Cardinals; and shelled Spanish peanuts & regular shelled peanut halves for both the woodpecker, the crows, the titmouse, the chicksdees, & the blue jays. The doves & pigeons will eat the corn & everything else.😬 I think I saw some Orioles, some small black birds & last but not least😖 a freaking uninvited bear!
Ooops - almost forgot - all the neighborhood squirrels!

Thanks for you the report. Sounds like a great approach. So glad we don't have to deal with bears here.

For my main hopper feeder I started out using Royal Wing Fruit and Nut and I found it to worked great it's just expensive $44 for 40 lbs. So I try to mix my own version of it which is cheaper. My other feeders have only one type of seed in them so the birds can pick and choose what they want to eat. I feed my deer the heavier cheap bird seeds along with corn and deer pellets so the birds and animals can eat from there. The only exception is I keep a racoon free yard.

      Raccoons can be trouble.

@@MarksBackyardBirds I have grand children that play in my yard all the time. It's because of the diseases racoons carry. Better safe then sorry. If it wasn't for that i wouldn't care if they where in my yard.
