Current car industry deserves whatever happens. Can't put out crap and expect it to work out. Its nonsense. Government interference got us where we are. But wasn't this the same thing said about Toyota/ honda in the 80s

It's as if history repeats itself... you're right on the money, the manufacturers didn't want to change all the cars into something customers wouldn't buy, it was regulation. Pre 1990's, There was an auto pact preventing Japanese makers from selling full size cars in North America forcing them to found Lexus, Infinity and Acura as Made in America cars to bypass it. European cars face such artificial limits today in the US and Canada. A small 4 cyl diesel truck with a manual would eat chevy and fords lunch bigtime.
Had a Chinese scooter once, it rotted away before my eyes, not sure what steel they were using or if they're better now but the materials corroded, plastics faded, paint flaked all in about 2 years. Total opposite of Japanese built scooters.
@ElliHarper it's all the scrap washing machines and junk you see the crackheads hauling getting shredded and sold to China.. they come back as scooters 🤣
When I was in Germany this summer the rental company gave me a MG HS plug in hybrid (Made in China) and it had crazy acceleration for a cheap front wheel drive SUV. It had a few bugs like rollback when the battery was empty and bad regen braking modes, but other than that it was way better than any $35k SUV the US could produce.
Shocker. When you use literal slaves you can build a car cheaper than unionized shops. What a revelation. The only scary part is seeing that people don't already know this.
I'd like to see all of these beautifully made, affordable Chinese cars come to the USA with no tariffs. The US auto industry, including foreign auto makers that sell here, have been artificially propped up for a long time. It will, and should be a rude awakening for mainstream auto makers. If they can't make well built affordable cars to compete, then it's their game to lose.
This is absolutely something the US and Japanese automakers should be paying attention to. Putting a bad product out can and will kill a company, especially when the product is overpriced. New car prices have gotten out of hand.
