  • Here's 2 hunts featuring Shawn Heyden on the guns & Randy Anderson doing the calling & filming in the Nebraska Sandhills. There's no calling on the 1st stand because Shawn sees a coyote leaving during the set up. He then shoots the coyote right behind the front leg at 200 yards but it runs about 80 yards before it goes down. Randy then calls in a coyote on the 2nd stand & Shawn shoots it with his .243 Ackley at the same distance & drops it in it its tracks. Make sure you really watch Randy's introduction of the 2nd hunt that he does in his front yard because he actually howls in a coyote right in his yard during the intro!!!

    Thanks for sharing Randy.
I've always enjoyed all of your videos over the years.
But the ones with Shawn, I somehow enjoy even more.

The .223 shot was facing away and the bullet had to go through some non-vitals to get to the boiler room. Had it been the same presentation as the 243 I believe the rsults would have been the same regardless of caliber. The only runners I get with the 223 60gr V-Max are hit too far back which can happen with any size bullet.

Bullet construction (frangible vs fmj for example) certainly is a factor, but yeah, in general a larger bullet travelling faster is always going to kill better.

Head shot vs body shot makes a difference RU We Taught Ed?

Pretty misleading,the.223 shot was through the lungs and the 243 was more of a shoulder shot!

Maybe a little bit but from our experiences this happens a lot.

Hey Randy what about if you're using a bolt action 223 and you're trying to save the pelts?
