I am from the mountains of southwestern Va, and now live in central Virginia. About five years ago i was standing in my driveway talking to my brother and the biggest most beautiful black bear walked right up my driveway to me. It shocked me and i fired a couple rounds from my little pistol into the ground. He slowly walked to the edge of the woods. He was over seven and a half feet tall. My dish receiver is six feet high and he stood up right beside it. He was at least two feet taller. Then, another day my wife came in from the yard and told me she was watering the flowers and a mountain lion ran right beside her and then just sat in the woods and stared at her. I thought she was mistaken until the next day she was watering her flowers and i went out to ask her about something. I looked to the end of our driveway and there stood a mountain lion staring at me. I again fired a round and it ran off. Haven't seen either since, but if they are here, then no doubt they are in the mountains.
I live here in the Blue Ridge mountains in West Virginia we have our place right here on the Shenandoah River.. My great great grandpa bought this land for nothing .I live in Jefferson county not far from Harper's ferry. This place is really heaven. God bless. My granny is Cherokee she lived on the reservation until she met my pap and they moved to Boyce Virginia.
Thank you so much for sharing this, beautiful country! From Florida,stared vacationing we hen my girls were little, their all grown with children of their own, an they visit with family's now, i was blessed an vacationed there again last year, thank you NC and Tennessee for sharing your beautiful country with this ole Floridian girl! Been a pleasure!
We got mountain lions in Western NC. My parents own 5 acres up in Ashe County and the ridge across from us, they set up a trail cam, and caught a black panther. They've got pictures of it. Neighbor of my parents, a youth pastor, had a bobcat on his deck one morning. His wife woke up, and said she heard a baby crying. It was a bobcat, the noise they make sounds like that. He told her to get down, then he slammed the window shut and the bobcat took off. My father's got trail cams, caught a few black bears on 'em and some mink. Don't give away the secret of how nice it is up here. We don't need no more Floridians coming up here, knocking down the top of a mountain, and sticking up some darned massive house up there and then voting to take our rights away because all the freedom is "scary".
the32712 NOW, I've got a neighbor who lives part year in Florida and part of the year across the other side of my driveway and better people don't live in Western North Carolina! I see it when they leave to return to Florida! I've seen some people in Haywood, Yancy, Madison, Jackson who couldn't be trusted in the out house with a muzzle on!
I'm from Florida and bought some land up there. But it's unrestricted, and have no plans to put a big house.. Just small enough to live in and get away from Floridians 😀 I'm originally from NY. A lot of people in Florida will easily give up their rights. But not original Floridians
I grew up on the Cumberland Plateau ~ north of Cookeville and around Crossville Tennessee...Very similar, beautiful green...As a teen plus I drove to the West Coast on OLd Route 66... Back in 1968, {fifty yrs ago in Feb 2018...}
I grew up in Arden right next to the Buncombe/Henderson County line. I often rode my horse or walked to Fletcher with my sisters. Our next door neighbor owned the Fletcher Store there on Main Street. They were Youngbloods.
My family is from Elkins, I'm getting my $ right n headed back home to build my own cabin on family land, myself! Just beautiful, n everything you need! Different seasons bring different gathering/hunts/harvest.....Mountaineers are always free!
My grandparents lived in Sugar Hollow and one of my great grand dads made Shifflett Hollow... Idk if you know where shifflett hollow was but up there they are burried in the family grave yard...
The closed captioning really does a number on your video but it is well made and beautiful. The history and HERstory of the Trail of tears is a little more complex than you are saying so , yeah, research it more in your blog. It is certainly one of the most beautiful and dangerous places on earth. Really enjoyed this.
+henry rudolph Don't think I had a pistol on this hike. We do have bears and bobcats. I've never been bothered by either. No mountain lions in our area.
Little Switzerland, that is near Burnsville, Egypt, and Higgins?? My family is from Higgins, and I just love going up there in the summertime when we have a family reunion, that is God's country for sure!!
i live in northeastern California and do we have bears this morning my trash was all over the place we also mountain lions bobcats coyotes bobcats fox i see them all the time
Actually my brother Tim did see a Sasquatch-like creature one time. There is a hilarious video on RUclips. Search for Tim Glenn Sasquatch. Very much worth a watch.
It sure was an amazing place to grow up. Life can be hard up there because of the economy, but you won't beat it for beauty and serenity in the eastern USA.

Are you sure they are "Floridians" and not"halfbacks"?
Black panthers are African leopards. You better hope you didn't see one and I'm 100% sure there are no black mountain lions.
