I used to work for Mitsukoshi Hawaii. Back 1979 when it first opened. Mitsukoshi was only on the first and fourth floors. I worked at Tiffany’s on the first floor. We had water running down the walls and people would come in to touch the water. It was fun times.

Shinichi, thanks for another awesome walking tour! By the way, the new Junbi macha place you walked by is a business founded by Joe Jitsukawa, another youtuber. He started the channel "JK news". Take care everyone.

I don't think Joe was one of the founders. I think he came in later as a partner before it was rebranded to Junbi. The other youtuber you're referring to is David So. If I remember correctly they're the franchise owners of the Waikiki store though. Their matcha is sourced from Japan. They've done vlogs of them visiting and checking out the farm

    Hi Shinichi,
I haven't been on Kalakaua in a while. Everytime I pass that building, I still call it Mitsukoshi. Totally different vibe now. My friends and would go there when we were teenagers. We went to the Waikiki Shopping Plaza too. The food was cheap enough for us to afford. There was a Woolworths nearby.
Love Afternoon Tea at the Moana. I wish I could staycation at the Moana.

I enjoyed watching this video, seeing the sites and how it's changed/not changed and yr narration providing historical framework. My fond memories of Waikiki and the rest of Oahu are from mid 1980s to 2000s.

Fun walk. Great way to see Waikiki. You don't realize how many things there are in Waikiki to see and do unless you walk the street. I usually just go to one place at a time and leave when going to Waikiki. I definitely should check it out more.

That was a fun walk through Waikiki to see the many changes. You know that locals don’t go there much especially after the theaters closed. 🌺

Oh gosh this was such a fun walk through, thanks so much Shinichi, you just have so many great memories of when you were younger and now all of the things that are changing and getting better. I would love to visit Waikiki and be able to see all of this cool stuff. Have a blessed and beautiful rest of your day, sending love and hugs, bye! 😉🤗🌸🌸🌸💜💜💖💞

It's been about 24 years since I've driven around and worked in the Waikiki area, it was definitely happening during the 80's and 90's, there was more restaurants and tourists.

So much nostalgia. So much change. Sorry to see the Waikiki Theater closed in 2002. It was a very beautiful theater back in the day. I'm happy that the Moana is still going strong. I hope that, as the iconic "First Lady of Waikiki," it will be around for many years to come. Thank you for another lovely walk down memory lane, Shinichi. 🤙🌺🌺🌺💖

I used to go play video games at Mitsukoshi. I really miss that Waikiki Theater. Remember the man that used to p,any the organ at the front of the theater! So nostalgic of all those good days.
