I’ve owned three early Broncos in my life. First was a ‘69, then was a ‘73. Most recently was a ‘76. Currently I’m Broncoless and sad. One day I’ll own another EB. I’m thoroughly enjoying watching your build. Thank you for keeping my dream alive.
Looking good Matt.... I’m putting an AX-15 in my ‘69... found a donor rebuilt it a few months ago. If you haven’t seen, great AX-15 rebuild series - search AX-15 Project Rowdy.... glad to hear you really like the AX-15 in your Jeep. I struggled with AX-15 vs other 5 speed options.
Thanks Tracy. I saw a transmission and NP231 donor with 135K milesfor $450 total on Craigslist. $250 just for AC-15. I'm tempted. How difficult was the install? Does it use the same internal hydraulic throwout as the jeep? Did you use a Jeep Pedal and Master or convert to a lever style? Are you adapting to Dana 20?
@@MattsGarage I did the AX-15 conversion and it was not too bad. I had a Ford 3 speed previously so was able to use the manual throwout bearing / lever. The Advanced Adapters kit (27-3520AX15) comes with the bellhousing / output shaft adapter which uses the Ford throwout bearing but have seen many people adapt it to a hydraulic throwout. If you find a mid-80's bellhousing off of a F150 they came with a hydraulic master/slave which you can get fairly cheap on RockAuto or similar.
I've been trying to find a spot for speakers in my 72 1/2 cab, I think I'm gonna try to build a custom sound bar overhead. Or boat speakers attached to the roll bar
I don't see why not. The Power steering really only involves the box hanging on the frame and the pump running off the motor. As long as you can get the box mated to the steering column it should work fine. I'm just guessing based on my (limited) knowledge though.
@@MattsGarage yea the stock bottom end is strong enough for that i think, i heard u mention no a/c? I daily drive a 79 f100 (302 as well) and ac would be nice my man, especially as much work as ur putting in it
Yeah so since the Explorer Motor had A/C I am going to leave the compressor installed but free-wheeling. That way I can convert pretty easily later by adding a condenser and cans. You really don't need A/C up here at all. It's only over 80 fora week or two and over 90 MAYBE two days a year. If it ever got over 100 they'd declare a state of emergency.
@@MattsGarage lol i live Ga man just looking out for you, we just now hit fall and it feels great, and that manual tranny sounds like the way to go, mine truck is a three on the tree
Hi Jeff. Yes but I hate cutting doors! Pet peeve of mine. plus then you have to grommet and run wires. and disconnect every time you take doors off. It works, don't get me wrong. Maybe I can build out an enclosure on the door panel that doesn't require cutting. I gotta think about it.
Matt keep up the good work! I’m ordering all the parts for a full tub this week. Your videos will save me a ton of time! So did you get the doors to fit ok?
My doors are of exceptional quality. The real issue is getting the fenders and quarters to match up to it. Don't weld in your quarters until you've gotten them as close tot he door profile as possible to minimize filler. email me any time with questions mattsgarageshow@gmail.com
Matt - I went through the same back and forth around speaker setup. I ended up buying a heep enclosure that sits on my tunnel that is almost perfect and is completely out of the way, as I didn't want to hack my kick panels and it seemed anything in that area was going to be in the way. I also attached a couple of 6x9 boxes on top of my wheel wells that help ensure I don't only hear music out of one ear. i.imgur.com/7j5GPrH.png i.imgur.com/TRMjj42.png
That's pretty nice. What's the model? I may end up doing that even though it's not ideal if seems the least intrusive. That's wasted space anyway. Thanks!
I was thinking about doing a roll bar because I may go soft-top. I hadn't realized the roll bar affects the dash. Does it block the glove box or something.
yes it blocks the glove box from opening. some people move the speaker to the other side so the glove box door will open, some do a different hinge. my hinge is so the door opens at a pivit point.

"One Day" is a dangerous sentiment. Dive in! Live your life. It'll never be a good time!

Ryan Munson great tip thanks!
Matt, I had mine sand blasted and powder coated with “Basic White” color. It turned out awesome. I left it all stock . Will share pics if you want.
yes please send pics to mattsgarageshow@gmail.com.
Have you decided on a color scheme or are you keeping the original color..?
I had a color picked out but then I gave it to my friend and he loved it so now I need to find a new color!

I've seen a lot of guys with boat speakers. Good sound. Look strange to my eye but something's gotta give.
Looking great matt! can you still have power steering in a manual column?

@@MattsGarage Thanks matt good to know i have a 74 pretty much stock but changing things on it as well keep up the good work!
Keep it up man, are u plannig building that 302 for more rpm use or low end grunt
Thanks Brian. Low end and reliability. Mostly I just want it to breath well with a decent cam and heads. The bottom end can stay stock.

Part is VDP-54201, price is $69 at Summit: www.summitracing.com/parts/vdp-54201
how can you have too many spot welds? I think the more you have is more better! your spacing looks great!
I agree with you but I'm not the most experienced guy so I assume people know what they are talking about. That's a dangerous assumption though ;-)
That's the original dash, right? Suggest you not modify for future value. Thanks for the vid.
if you are not doing a roll bar leave the dash stock,
