training her voice to become legit opera has definitely helped her vocally in general. ALL the areas of her voice has improved soo much. I'm soo proud of her and I can't wait to see Wicked on November 30th, I listened to the soundtrack and she sounds INCREDIBLE
That's just what haopens if you train operatically, any opera singer can sing any genre but you have to be special to be able to sing opera at high levels. Opera is much harder, it takes much more work and dedication. Opera is very demanding and it takes a toll on the body
Ven_TA: Actually it's gonna be a part two of Wicked on November 21, 2025 this year. When the year will change to New Years Eve after when the Christmas will be ended. Yeah, just wanna let you know. 😅😅😅 I did sing the high notes too, but I have to keep it low without my cousins knowing what I'm singing a new song popular by Ariana Grande from Wicked came in theatre.
I love that she said she had to trust that even if she didn't get it, that they would pick someone else that would have earned it and "go where it was supposed to go". I wish more theatre kids thought that way lol
also there was probably some doubt in her mind that they would even consider her at all if they wanted to “cast real theatre actors” and that they’d only see her as a “polished popstar girl” (and therefore not able to deliver) but i love that she trusted herself to put the work in, train and basically give everything she possibly had to “prove them wrong”. i think if she hadn’t gotten it she would’ve at least walked away knowing she did everything she could. that’s where i think that mentality comes from, bc she knows this type of role has to be earned.
I've talked to people about the movie that were so surprised by her skill, and i think people forget that she has a background in acting both on screen and on stage, having been on Broadway.
I mean she was in a single musical that was only on Broadway for like 3 months and it’s not like Nickelodeon is the pinnacle of acting so it’s fair some people were skeptical.
I've heard other people say similar things and i don't understand this. She was in a Nickelodeon show and a couple small parts in movies. Then she dropped this exceptional, Oscar-worthy performance in Wicked. In what world is that not surprising?
@danibeck3771 maybe it's because I've seen her interviews and shows and music so long. That it just didn't click with me. Shes got a brilliant voice and passion for what inspires her
"it has to be earned" and she earned it with hard work, an awesome voice and her amazing talent. Not just because of her name, like so many are saying. People often forget she was an actress before. I am so happy she manifested her dream. She deserves it so much ❤
i mean the only real thing that’s changed since is her enunciation (it’s better lol) but she’s always done the “speaking in a higher placement” thing to preserve her voice
Because acting is acting and it's not just her now "up speak", it's the fact that she's done this before, taking on whatever she's working with at the moment..before it was the whole "African American" persona that she went with the whole first 10 years of her career. She used slang and spoke in a certain vernacular and even got spray tans and wore ethnic looking outfits. She is fucking weird.
That's cool and all but why change the voice in the first place? I'm happy for her but I really didn't appreciate her changing her accent to try to sound/act like a black woman to sell her music and now she sounds like a whimsical valley girl...
Ariana wasn’t in my radar prior to wicked. But seeing her interviews and how she actually took lessons to audition for the role I have gained so much respect for this professional singer. Her singing and acting was amazing in the movie and I was so surprised. No wonder she did well because she really worked for it ❤
She WAS Glinda. She knew that character like the back of her hand and she made sure that she did her portrayal justice, not just for herself or for Kristen, she did it to honor the legacy of the show. She was amazing.
For Ariana this was a role that she most likely had been dreaming to play all her life. She was born to play this role. When she gets emotional about the role it is because it is a dream come true for her.
There's an interview of Kristin Chenoweth saying when Ari was like 10-12 she said she wanted to be Glinda and she called with the casting news and her and Kristin were just squealing with excitement. Great to see that she knew what she wanted, put in the work, and made it happen. Like she said, the role went to someone who deserved it, she just happened to work to be that person. I think her Nickelodeon career might've helped with the silliness of Glinda, and honestly her character from Victorious was such an airhead that I can see how she was able to get into Glinda so well. I think being a celebrity might've honestly helped too since she was self aware of the ways they can be seen as out of touch, or doing things like offering to help Elphaba with her "problem" of being green because it makes her more likeable and popular and not because she's actually listening. That kind of performative thing a lot of celebs get called out on.
when she came on SNL last summer i was genuinely surprised by how much her voice change but i knew it was from training and having to change her voice for this role. I was honestly blown away by her performance she was so damn great and really funny too!!
I hate how people keep hating on them so much for being so caring and loving towards each other. Like just let them be kind toward each other like it's not weird.❤like haven't you heard of besties.
In terms of voice and career, Ariana Grande is like the opposite of Renee Fleming. Ariana started in pop/contemporary and ventured closer to classical. Fleming was the opposite way. I think it’s simply incredible. I hope we hear some of Ariana doing some opera in the future!
"It's good to see me isn't it" is just so remanicent of Kristen Chenoweth's voice but not exactly the same. The moment she started talking on screen I was like "yeah, she'll do it justice"
Everyone talking shit about how her voice has changed needs to really needs to learn to appreciate the talent it would take to change your voice like that, but also the impact that training for opera and a soprano part would significantly impact your voice.
Vocal training does def help, i remember when madonna did evita and had vocal training and delievered ray of light a little after and its her best album vocally.
I wasn’t expecting the greatness Ariana delivered as a big fan of the play. I’m sooo glad she “took care of” the character, as she promised. 🥲 ALLL flowers deserved for how much she put into this performance of a lifetime!!!
