Must be more than 40 years since I heard this, gorgeous.
Great album, sublime song
Good album, well worth listening to. "White Bird" was in the rotation on all the classic rock stations of the seventies. "Hot Summer Day" is a favorite from the album.
I was about 20 years old and a hippie in Kansas City in 1970 when this song was hugely popular. I actually saw the band perform it in concert at Freedom Palace.
I was at that show, as well, but my memory of it is vague. It was the only show I saw at Freedom Palace, but I saw a great many at Cowtown Ballroom.
I saw them live opening for Slade opening for Humble Pie in Las Vegas 1972. Frampton was gone by then.
What a classic. Beautiful! Very Peter, Paul, and Mary-ish.
I know this song very well, it was played alot on radio in my area/stations.
This song has a particular meaning to me. After high school, in '73, I did the hitching America thing, and the very first hippie house I took respite within had this song playing on the record player. I took it as a sign that I had to fly away from my comfortable life and see the larger world, as a free bird, a white dove of peace, spreading peace and love in my travels. Still sounds as beautiful and beckoning as it did then. Probably better, thanks to better equipment.
Great album! Haven't know of it for very long, but I'm glad I found this groovy music! Jim, I knew you'd like it.
This is one of perfect albums, on my “perfect” list. You should highlight this one, every song is just like the picture on the cover!
Good song, good album, let's have more.
Not too many people talk about this album. I had this album as a teen in the late 70's and I played it all the time. There was just something about it that I liked, maybe it's that fantastic album cover? Or could it be the fiddle freak out that happens a little later on? I don't know but it sounded like a good album to put on after Surrealistic Pillow. I still listen to his every now and then. Love the whole album.
I believe the band relocated from SF or LA up to Seattle and the meloncholia of White Bird was inspired by the dreary weather of the Pacific Northwest.
It's a long time since I've heard that. Not something I would listen to very often, but I enjoyed it all the same. It reminded me of Love, which isn't surprising.
Hi Jiim! Thank you so much for posting this. I posted a comment before but it seems YT removed it because I added a link to a picture. They don't like links in comments apparently. The song is open to interpretation of course. So the image (I'm not allowed to show) is a bird escaping from a golden cage. The bird is a dove a symbol of peace and freedom. The song was written in 1967 while the Vietname war was raging. So my impression was that the white bird is a symbol of peace and freedom which is not allowed to be free.
I only know Beautiful day by U2.
Very nice and very sixties music. Reminds me of the band The Collectors.
Ah! IABD's response to The Beatles' Dis track, Blackbird! (Little known fact that, or maybe I just made it up!) This is quintessential 1967 San Francisco (it was written in 1967 though only released in 1969. Blackbird was from 1968.) and, despite the hippy-drippiness, is a great song made even more special by the violin. I would be interested to hear more from them.
Hi Ken, I got this live LP which is great and I have the first 2 studio albums on CD, unfortunately album nr 2 cannot keep up the quality of the first album.
I'm really not sad, when someone takes a song off my long, long list. And if it's part of a mixtape, I simply replace it by another one.
White Bird is my favourite song of IABD, I love the singing, I love the violin.
I've had the LP since 1981 and still listen to it frequently 🤘
Hey Rudy, this album was in my RUclips feed about six months ago. I listened mainly because of the album art. I loved the groovy psychedelic sound. I listen to the album about 2x a month. "Girl With No Eyes" is a favorite.
Not only was it someone it was me Rudi ;-) I would say sorry taking a song off your list but I know you have so many you can replace 1 song.
@@tonygrinney7115 sorry for calling you "someone" :-)
You're absolutely right, the list seems to be endless ... I'm thinking about the next 5 mixtapes ;-)
❤
Another West Coast band you need to hear are Peanut Butter Conspiracy (don’t be put off by the name). They also had the female/male singing thing and ‘floaty’ vibes, with optimistic messages. Lovely stuff.
Brilliant, Jim! Two of my favorites from my youth right in a row, Uriah Heep and It's a Beautiful Day. Do you know Love's Forever Changes album? I highly recommend it.
new to me but your right there a under tone of the doors sounds
Talking of things white, you should hear The White Ship by HP Lovecraft 🤔
Yes a great song!
Probably not still going now actually, as violinist, singer, leader David La Flamme passed away recently 🤔
You need to react to Grand Funk song Gimmie Shelter you be surprised to how good they do it
Hate to say I told you so.....😊
Definitely worth a reaction to the entire album. A highly underrated band and this album is one of my favorites. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It's_a_Beautiful_Day
