The small turbine airplanes are capable of spraying at speeds well over 100 mph. The helicopter usually sprays at speeds in the 40 to 50 mph range. The lower speed and ability to manouver in a small area make it useful when spraying around obstacles or within steep canyons and mountains.
Cannot beat a jet ranger!! I maintain these and they sound great and can fly so well if properly maintained. And I believe they are the safest aircraft around :)
the heli is loaded heavy as the heli moves forward, clean air moves through the rotor system making the rotor more efficient (translational lift). As the heli moves through 16-24 knots the rotor moves out of its vortices and is in relatively undisturbed air. the air flow is also now more horizontal, which reduces induced flow and drag with a corrisponding increase in angle of attack and lift. The additional lift at available at this speed is referred to as " effective translational lift" (ETL).
Es muy divertido verlo. aun recuerdo uno que vi desde un camping en Gran Bretaña; mucho mas antigua; de los años 70, pero los giros eran como el último que se ve en esta grabación, pero algo mas cerrados.
Not much to explain. Helicopters usually can do the work for cheaper, and faster. Unless we're talking about the fields in the southern states that go for miles and miles. But a helicopter can out turn a plane by a large margin. The pilot in this video isn't really utilizing the full capability of the helicopter, and is turning pretty slow. spray off to spray back on can be done in about 6 seconds if you're turning and burning...
It does cost more but then you can charge more. That is how business works. These guys wouldn't operate if there wasn't a place for them in the market. There are places where the ground machines can't operate or are not allowed to operate. These Bell Jet Rangers are easy on fuel compared to other machines.
@DanTheCaptain I'm not clear about what you mean. Everyone I've ever spoken too could not tell me why people prefer to use a helicopter for crop spraying instead of a plane, because a helicopter is so much more expensive to run. Can you please explain in a little more detail?
not sure why people knock the pilots skills. It's a different world when you add liquid and weight. Ag pilots/crop dusters and morticians are blessed with a little something no one else is. And yeah, sometimes the pucker factor does come into play.
It's cheaper and even faster to spray with an airplane, but they tend to douse the entire county, even when you only gave them a ten acre job. Helicopters are slower and more precise, and also don't have to fly back to the airport every 10 minutes.
Everyone talking about how Kamov's are better and cheaper...Yeah obtaining and registering a cold war Russian helicopter ins't cheap or efficient in America.
well, thinkign it well, is better A Heli, But it can be done with a smaller/cheaper Heli, no?. I can see that you dont need airfield, you dont need to go far away to reload, and you can control better the secctions of the terrain being sprayed.
As a rule a helicopter costs about $ 300.00 per hour. However look at high off the ground this guy is. If there were any wind the spray would be in the next county. Down here in South Texas they use crop dusting aircraft to put down fertilizer and herbicide.
This Jetranger helicopter is wayyyy to expensive. The Kamov Ka-26 is so efficient and can spray much lower.. but maybe he can ferry passengers when not spraying crops.
Strange that ground crew wears no HAZMAT protection against chemicals AND that chopper actually sprayed chemical that close to private dwellings as shown in video.
Michael Kempton-Jones I've been running a nurse truck for a spray truck, not a chopper, for 4 yrs gettin ready to start 5th season and we don't wear protective equipment as a general rule! A couple times spraying a certain pesticide, can't remember name,my boss wore nitrile gloves and handled it himself. It was such a bad ass poison that kinda the mix it had an ametic compound mixed in. That's a substance that makes you vomit if you accidentally ingest any! For something to have its own barf inducer built in it's gotta be evil! That's the only thing we ever used gloves etc. every time.
I guess the bell 206 was iconic enough to even be a cropduster

lambo93 why the safest mate? ( I’m not being a smart ass, I am genuinely curious)
Ooo nice 👍
great truck and heli ... i love both
What a good hard working helicopter 🚁

You have to love the sound of the jetranger starting up, thought it does sound better in real life!

Oh right on man. Once you start you will be hooked for sure
how can that be acurate?? how much land has been sprayed twice??how much spray is blown away to the adjacent plot?
Отличная вертушка, *«очень красивая»* и нужная техника.
Yes. She has a blue top on. Next time we'll wear brown. Mom says hi. Buy potatoes instead.
that is cool! it must be very expensive to have them spray the field that way!
Must have some skills to land that thing on the back of that truck!
I
Very nice video! Good pilot!
Thats a big helicopter to use on such a small field!
Part time workers are needed, but my back surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning. No food till then. Bye Morgan.

I know that heli pilots have to be able to land on tiny spots, but cmon man, dont make it hard for him :D

Better off doing it with the high cycle especially with all the new upgrades that John Deere and other are making definitely better coverage
amazing farmers,
in my country, farmers cant even afford 3 meals in a day, forget a Heli...
nice video btw..
Any pilots know what that clicking sound is during start up? It reminds me of the electric start on my gas grill.
Spark plugs
Close, its the ignighters same principle, you would NOT want to be zapped by an ignighter
worked for helicopters nz in the 80's and we routinely loaded 200 gals of checmical in 40 sec's this loader guy obviously doesn't pay the bills
I'm going to go be Chopper Pilot ! I have my G.I . money right here ! I want to get those yellow jackets !

Amazing 🤩
He was so high up I thought he was spraying the tree tops. Give me a crop duster any day.
Ive seen people seed a field with a plane before but never spray with a helicopter.
Ive been to Disneyland. Its in Anahiem. Thats in California. South California is what its called. Do you know where Bakersfield at?

That looks like Lee county mosquito Control ! spraying you with anthrax !
@nrk411 that's why it make sense to use a helicopter and not a actual crop dusting plane.
I've always love a holo love to have one some day
hahaaaaaa ... super !!!!! great video .....

I live in pennsylvania too! do u live in Lancaster because of the farmland?
how much cheaper/faster is it to do this via helicopter compared to on the ground?
@The1djfan what state is in? What were they applying on the field?
Why did he drag the heli off the truck? Why not lift it a bit then push off?
Nice😄😄😝

Said The Same Thing. Wasted money
I do this for a living, we only work in specific conditions. Only times we have problems with spray drift is when clients get impatient
Is it me or does everyone else that flies heli's just get on youtube and watch random helicopter videos to?
Weston Gleave ..
I'm wondering, did they refuel the helicopter when the engine was on? And is it safe to do so?
Great footage!
+Jolotron C (Josh)
Its called hot fueling and its safe if done properly.
jet fuel is pretty docile at ambient pressures.
+Vincent Vega
No its not!! Ambient pressures? What the fcuk are you on? Jet-A is less flammable than gasoline. You're an idiot.
Not unless it is compressed you fucking idiot.
+Vincent Vega
Dude, the only pressure is the water in your head. Fuel in a helicopter is not pressurized,

Beautiful JR, nice vid!!
Wow amazing 👏👏👏

This kind of flight can not be spraying for crop. Just spraying liquid.
What is the price of this helicopter ?
Wo ist da the Brain??? Kann man nicht am Boden tanken?Nein Männer müssen zeigen das sie erst auf einem Truck landen können um zu tanken LOL
whats the advantage of using a heli over a plane?
No runway required
isnt it better to doit with a small aereoplane?
good
It cost more, is really really fast and works great when it's too wet to get equipment on the ground
Nice job
I wonder if the check engine light came on when he took the fuel cap off with it still running??....LOL!
Is he fueling that heli up with A1 at the same time?
Espectacularrrrrr
is the pilot ever going to get down there and spray?
Murari. Saw
Its also much cooler.

@cameronmoj well what i meant to say is that it makes sense to use a heli for such a small field. i wanna trtie that someday! :)
