  • Is this a new chapter for Canadian Soccer?
Led by coach, John Herdman, and the likes of Alphonso Davies, Cyle Larin, Tajon Buchanan and others, there is an optimistic buzz around Canadian Soccer that hasn't been around since they last qualified for the World Cup in 1986. However, this talented group doesn't seem satisfied with just being a contender -- with world class players domestically and abroad, this team seeks to write their own history, with Canada at the top of CONCACAF and back in the World Cup.
Hear from MLS and National Team legends Dwayne De Rosario, Patrice Bernier, and others about this young and exciting group, and why Mexico, the United States, and the rest of CONCACAF need to be on high alert when facing Canada.
"The Octagon" is a new series that explores the most unique stories around CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, focusing it mostly on USA, Mexico, and Canada, and illustrating the aspects that make it unlike an soccer region in the world.

The setting now requires the same skill set and tactical mindset as those who frequent the biggest games. Because of Canada's hockey legacy, Canadian soccer fans have been patiently waiting, waiting and waiting. CanMNT has what it takes... It's up to them.

Canada's biggest task is how they'll fair not against their opponents, but how they fair against the CONCACAF standard. On paper, you look at Canada and question if they would be satisfied with finishing 3rd in the Octogonal, the problem though is that none of these players are used to playing CONCACAF sides that play for the cards by utilizing the dark-arts instead of outplaying their opponents. Take into account the low standards of referees in this region and the lack of VAR and then a referee from Guatemala give Davies a yellow card for getting fouled in the opposition's box.

I think that they will cause damage in the world cup, they have gotten a result away at the asteca stadium which is something big national teams like England have never done and they looked better than mexico the #9 ranked country in the world. The same can be said when they went away to the US who are ranked 10th. They are on the same level as the US and Mexico, they will be fine at the world cup and will be a tough match for any opponent even the top teams. They are also one of the toughest national teams mentally, in the world at the moment . They have shown it time and time again over the past year, and they got a draw at the asteca stadium. Only the very toughest teams get a result over there and Canada could have won the game had they been slightly more opportunistic. Canada is not scared of anybody not even the top teams like France and England.
