  • This video is about a window into memory recall after my hemorrhagic stroke, caused my a rupture of a brain arterial venous malformation (AVM). This stroke affected a part of my brain called the left angular gyrus, and this part of the brain is responsible for reading, writing, math, and ordering. Note: there is one image of my scalp post injury.

I had an AVM as well at age 12 - my English and even the French I had learned in 6th grade came back quickly but I had to relearn math starting over with one plus one, (got an 8 on my Math high school ACT exam and a 95 on the English portion) and went from a great short term memory pre surgery to a poor short term memory after, developed seizures as well as losing half my vision and ability to easily write by hand as a result of a stroke. Definitely not easy but I fortunately had a good surgeon (as well as a college professor father who encouraged me to push through with school) , friends to lift my spirits and was able to get my B.A. at a college with good disability accommodations! Congratulations to you and all others of us in the AVM community 🙂
