    Another fun thing about Hollow Knight's Path of Pain is that there's no gameplay reward for beating it whatsoever. Not an achievement either. Just a mildly interesting bestiary entry and a 5 second cutscene.

      I've been entertaining the notion that bestiary entries will unlock bosses in the upcoming G&G, and this one in particular might unlock one. Not sure whether I'd actually want it to have a definitive reward like that, though.

    I looked up that Demi-Fiend boss fight. Man, the quickest fights come in at 40 minutes. That's insane, considering the attacks he does. Normally, long boss fights are just getting into a rhythm, something like Penance from FFX, just have a strategy and be sure to stick to it and you'll come out on top. But this is just...wow...

      You think the Demi-Fiend is tough? Play Devil Survivor and fight Lucifer. Once he uses a move called "megidoladyne" (yeah cuz megidolaon wasn't strong enough on its own), you have 5 turns to live.

    • @nacunacato
      @nacunacato 6 лет назад +10

      Fun fact: the Demi-Fiend appearing in DDS is a part of the data from the real Demi-Fiend not the real Demi-Fiend, THAT BOSS IS ONLY A PART OF HIS POWER, that is why he doesnt use his most powerfull moves or demons (and is hinted that he and Lucifer managed to beat the crap of YHVH offscreen).

    You want a ludicrous optional challenge in Pokemon? Try Zero Isle South in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. It's a 99 floor dungeon that forces you to go in without any partner Pokemon, any items, any money, and, oh yeah, you have to start the dungeon at level 1. Not to mention that the Pokemon get to be as high as level 98 on the final floors. And don't think you can recruit the powerful Pokemon in here to help you, because the Pokemon here have no chance to join you. Oh, and no Kangaskhan rock rest points, so losing means you start the whole thing over.

    • @Dr.Deluxe
      @Dr.Deluxe 6 лет назад +7

      dusknoir64 oh dear god... I'd forgotten about PMD's bullshit 99 floor lv1 dungeons... didn't Sky add an even more bullshit Zero Island challenge though?

    • @dusknoir64
      @dusknoir64 6 лет назад +4

      Actually the one added in sky, Zero Isle Center is only 50 floors long, and it's challenge mostly comes from everything being in the 90 level range, aside from some level 5 Togepi and Clefairy wandering around for some reason, and that's at least something you can overcome with grinding.

    • @Dr.Deluxe
      @Dr.Deluxe 6 лет назад +2

      dusknoir64 ah my bad, I never played explorers of sky so i thought the zero island central was way worse. For some reason I thought it was like South but with powerful legendary Pokemon thrown into the mix

      I mean, that does sound cruel enough to be true.

    • @ClefairyRox
      @ClefairyRox 6 лет назад +14

      There IS a more bullshit challenge in Explorers of Sky: Destiny Tower. It has all the same restrictions as Zero Isle South and is just as long, but has even more restrictions and challenges on top of that. All your IQ skills are disabled, so Reviver Seeds are useless. Every floor is covered in intense darkness, and there are Random and Grudge Traps too. Grudge Traps are the worst as they put Grudge status on every Pokemon on the floor AND warps them too your location, and if you use even ONE move on them and KO them, that move's PP drops to zero. Grudge also never wears off so your PP is basically guaranteed to be fucked unless you find the stairs quickly.

    Celeste C-sides are the first thing to come to mind. It's already a tough game, and it already has ultra hard secret levels in the B-sides, of which I played one then didn’t bother with the rest because I nearly broke my Switch in half. Then I learned that there were even harder, even more secret levels beyond the B-sides called the C-sides, which _doesn't even make sense, cassettes only have two sides,_ and looked them up on RUclips, and I think the devs just like had a really bad day when designing those levels and wanted to make people hurt as much as they did.

    • @TP3200
      @TP3200 6 лет назад +5

      Luckily the only c side that's super crazy hard is the chapter 7 one. Some of the c sides are a little easier than the b sides as they are so much shorter.
      But yes Celeste is a game that really keeps on giving and challenging the player. Ironically I thought one of the hardest challenges in the game was to beat the very first level without dashing (a golden strawberry challenge)

Some of the best are Smash (the credits are a minigame with coin rewards), Fire Emblem (everyone gets an epilogue), and Neptunia (only a few minutes long and a J-pop song plays while an alternate, short story version of the game plays out in pretty sprite art, modeled to look like an old Dragon Quest game.)

    The Demi-fiend fight was described pretty well, but unlocking that fight and preparing for it is arguably even crazier than the fight itself.
    To unlock it, you first need to beat the game and do New Game Plus. Then, you have to beat the penultimate boss of the final dungeon, choose not to pass the point of no return, and just flat out leave the dungeon. Then, with no hints whatsoever, you need to go to the basement of one of the first dungeons in a game and enter a completely random room. Then, boom; fight starts.
    But the best way to prepare? Oh boy.
    The way stat distribution in this game works is that you control the protagonist's stat growth, while the other party members grow stats based on their preferences. One favors physical, one favors magic, etc. There are items that permanently increase stats, but these are only grindable late game, and some are much easier to grind than others. Thus, it's actually best to do a solo run of New Game Plus with the protagonist. Buff up the hard to grind stats through levels so you can grind for the easier stats. Once every character's easily grinded stats are maxed out once you beat the penultimate boss and do hardcore grinding, then you put the characters you want in your party and start grinding levels and skills. Finally, once you're in the best position, you MAY have a chance.
    Oh, and the reward for doing this? Nothing unless you import save data with him beaten to the second game, which triggers an accessory in the penultimate dungeon that boosts all stats by 10. Sounds good, but the final dungeon contains a ton of superior accessories if you want to do those superbosses, and grinding stats is much easier there.
    Speaking of which, the second game has another stupidly hard superboss that functions more like a giant puzzle that can still wreck you, can only be fought on Hard Mode (which requires either New Game Plus or clear data from the first game), is a giant reference to a game that to this date has never been localized, and has absolutely no reward for beating it.

    • @Ritokure

      Honestly, I think Rabbit undersold it a bit. Not only there's the crazy preparation, but he didn't even mentioned, for example, that the Demi-Fiend is *completely immune* to every attack type except three (Earth/Gun/Almighty), or that getting the "cheese strat" of Null Sleep is by itself extremely cryptic and optional content.
      To this day, I have no idea how anyone could ever beat this guy without a guide. I think of Demi-Fiend less of a boss and more like a collaborative team effort for masochists around the globe.

    I really feel like Deneb/Adventurer from bravely second should be here, I mean, she has a partner who can inflict your whole party with blind who she infinitely resurrects and has you fight the boss a second time right after you win. And she’s your save point throughout the game, so the one who’s been keeping track of all your progress and healing you the whole game decides to kick your ass, that’s insulting.

    Top Five Games That Are Easier with One Character: solo runs are usually seen as a handicap, but in some cases they can be a crutch. Examples include older Pokémon (my Gen I solo run saw me beat the Elite Four senseless with a level 92 Blastoise) and This War of Mine (a lot easier to not run out of food when you only have one mouth to feed).

      Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is an easy enough game on its own, but solo-ing the whole game using only Seth somehow makes the game even more of a cake-walk by just giving him some Javelins and Vulneraries/Elixirs. How do you do that?

    • @Megamean09
      @Megamean09 6 лет назад +2

      I did something similar once with FE7, using only the three lords. It gets quite tough in those last few chapters before any can promote, but it makes some sense, since you're giving them all the stat-boosting items you typically have to spread across an entire party.

      Yeah Pokémon is definitely easier with one overleveled mon. I swept through ultra sun and ultra moon (which are quite hard if you play the normal way) with primarina. I think it was about level 90 once I beat the game.

      ...How? I remember trying that in Black, back when they first implemented the scaling EXP which continues to this day, and by the time I'd beat Ghetsis, my Emboar was only 66, and that was with the Lucky Egg. Ending a modern solo run around the 90s when we have diminishing returns on EXP the higher our mon's levels doesn't sound feasible anymore.

      I'd say Paper Jam is potentially harder since those bosses have much more brutal tactics and the secret final boss is absolutely bonkers unless you cheese him with special cards. Not to mention the recommended levels you need.

      ShycoWar I dont know. Only recently have I beaten Antasma X, and he is probably the most challenging boss i have ever faced. Paper Jam, however, for me, was a cake walk. The cards really help and when you know what to use, you can be several levels lower and still beat the arena.

But you also have to then prepare yourself by leveling up and leveling up materia just to be able to not get killed instantly.

      Idk, it seems like there's a capable strat for Demi Fiend (and also being lucky). Mysterious Figure in BBS is actually just straight luck because it's so poorly designed.

    • @Ritokure
      @Ritokure 6 лет назад +3

      Kingdom080500 Yeah, the "capable strat" for Demi-Fiend can still fail because one of his lackeys literally spams a _party-wide instakill every single turn_ which you can't be immune to, because as Rabbid said if you're immune to it, then Demi-Fiend himself will spam _HIS party-wide instakill attack every turn,_ and you can't be immune to THAT one.
      The most efficient tactic that relies less on luck is probably Red Star, which exploits the low MP of one of Demi-Fiend's lackeys' to make him lose turns. That strategy took _years_ to be fully developed, and it's STILL luck-dependant because you need to survive Demi-Fiend's instakill attack once.
      It all boils down to what you think is worse: A boss that is poorly designed so he's almost impossible, or a boss that is expertly designed to *be* almost impossible?

    • @scissorman44
      @scissorman44 6 лет назад +1

      "it seems like there's a capable strat for Demi Fiend "
      There isn't. Well, at least not an infallible one. You're at the game's mercy with the luck factor.

    Top Five Game Demos. Demos that not only had good gameplay, but even incentivized you to try it before the game launch proper. Obviously PT would be on there, but other good ones could be Bravely Default (could be played 20 times when most 3DS demos can only be played ten times, like 6.5 hours long, gives you items to carry over to the game) and the just-released Octopath Traveler (instead of items, you can get a full three hours into the actual campaign and carry that save over).

      I know Rabbid hasn't exactly played B2, but that hasn't stopped him before TBH

    In terms of RPGs, I thought that the Hardmode Dreamy Giant Battle Gauntlet Medly was a pretty tough challenge in Mario & Luigi Dream Team.
    You have to fight all giant battles in the game back to back, on a strict time limit with no healing items.
    This challenge demands nothing but thirty strait minutes of perfection.
    You have to successfully counter every attack, Dodge almost every attack, perfect every attack (most importantly, specials, which randomly generates excecution methods.) and must react properly to every match changing situation.
    The cherry on top is the sheer amount of time it takes to defeat these bosses. Like seven minutes per boss, and assuming that you mess up, it's back to the start.
    The worst part is the Motion Controls that come up with the Zeebird battle. It sucks having spent 20 minutes getting up to with no damage taken and just getting one shot becuase you were playing in an unlight room so the 3DS can't detect your input.
    The harshest part is, it's all skill. The giant battles don't take into consideration Luigi's Gear or Stats. It's always the same pattern, same strategy, every time.
    Goes without saying, but the reward is coins. Just coins and a thumbs up. The trophy doesn't even look that cool, but man do you also get some serious btaging rights for clearing one of the hardest Mario Challenges.
    I put this as the very hardest Mario Challenge from the Mario RPGs. As people point toward the exploitable pit of 100 trials or tough boss fights that can die in a turn if you just grind to a higher level, there is no beating the Hardmode Giant Gauntlet if you lack the high skill that it requires.

    The best thing about Hollow Knight’s Path of Pain is when you reach the end you’ll either sit in awe or throw your computer out the window in rage

    I gotta say the mid-video subscription requests make me feel kind of uncomfortable, however, they're your videos so you can do what you want, I'm just one guy after all

    As a joke list, you could do "Top Five Map Packs", and then proceed to call out games that were blantantly riding the coattails of their predecessors while adding nothing or next to nothing to the formula *coughMarioGalaxy2cough*, or if you wanted to be serious about it, you could call it "Top Five Glorified Map Packs".

      That didn’t add anything to the Formula?? Can’t you say the same about say the Assassins Creed series or the upcoming The Last Of Us sequel? Just because sequels use similar formulas doesn’t mean they’re not good and entertaining lmaooo

      True, you could say they didn't, but you could also say they did. The only addition SMG2 saw was slapping in Yoshi. Take any two mainline Assasin's Creed games, and there's much more significant improvements than that. AC2 makes the original look like a rough draft.
      Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy was a lovingly crafted game boasting some of the greatest platforming ever, with an interesting new character with a tearjerking backstory, whereas its "sequel" had no soul and was blatantly slapped together to make a quick buck. No unique backstory, no effort in disguising how it's the same "Bowser kidnaps Peach" plot as always (at least SMG1 made it feel a bit different than usual, even Rabbid did a bit on this). It had no soul.

    Real talk, the MOMENT I heard the first chord of Number 3 while you were leading in I felt my spine shudder and body clench.
    Sure enough, then you said it.

    Top Five Star Fox games. This franchise has constantly been rocky, and reception is often mixed, but I'd like to see you make a case for the entries you feel are better than people give them credit for.
    For me that's Command and Zero: Command offered more content than most of the others, and I feel I was pretty good with the touch-screen controls, and it's really simple to turn Zero from controlling terribly to controlling just fine: just turn off the tv and play Gamepad-only, you don't need the third-person view.

      Are there even five games in that franchise, not counting remakes of the first as separate entries? :P

      Star Fox 2, Star Fox 64, Star Fox Adventures, Star Fox Assault,and Star Fox Command. Since Star Fox 1, 64, and Zero are just the same game with different coat of paint I say take your pick of those 3.
      I will say I did not mind Commands gameplay to an extend, but the story can go fuck itself in the depths of fanfiction. As for Zero I'm an odd man that is not a fan of how the gamepad gyro control was required. That kind of motion control I do not like as I even turned it off on 64 3D yet I can deal with Skyward Swords motion control and such like it.

      The fanfiction thing though, that's not really much of anything as far as a complaint goes, most games with visual novel-style branching story paths tend to have some weirder/funny/blantantly non-canon endings, like Blazblue with its trove of gag endings that were pure gold.
      As for which ending was canon, I always figured it was the one literally numbered as ending #1: Krystal rejoins the team, they meet Slippy's girlfriend who also joins, and Andross's grandkid Dash takes control of Venom in a move that indicates a positive change for the planet... until the next game when he would take after his grandfather and declare war on the Lylat System.

      You def need that third person view in Zero lol. I tried using only the gamepad before. You need the tv for boss fights and really chaotic moments 100% . And that's not how we want our Star Fox anyway. I wish people stopped defending that game. It was gimmicky and half-assed. Trust me, I know it's hard being a Star Fox fan lol. But we can't keep eating shit and saying "Mmm delicious."

      BaronMcFungi Same here. I didnt mind Skyward Sword's controls so much. They were janky at times but the game did a lot with it and made it kinda cool. But Star Fox Zero. Holy shit. Way too much jank.
