Driving Around Small Town Colfax, Illinois in 4k Video

Filmed on Sunday, December 22 2024, I drive around Colfax, IL to see what's going on.
Colfax is named for Schuyler Colfax, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives during the terms of Abraham Lincoln.
The town was founded in 1880 by James E. Wood.
In 1886 two coal mines were opened but they were both abandoned and then filled by 1924.
In 1892 a tile factory, cigar factory, and tin can factory were built. However, after the coal mines closed, Colfax settled into becoming solely a hub for shipping local grain.
The population peaked in 1900 with a population similar to today - as of the 2020 census, there were 996 people residing in Colfax.
