I used to when I was in my teens, but after getting the DVD and seeing the credits, it certainly blew my mind to find out that it wasn't a Stephen King story. Michael Stewart wrote the book, but the story is something that could easily have been a Stephen King yarn. Very Kingish as I would say. Yes, it's a common misconception especially among horror fans.
I was convinced of it as a kid, and with every trip to the video store, my dad (an avid SK reader) would have to correct me. Though, I’m sure in some alternative universe, King wrote it 😆
