Out of all the anime, cartoons and movies I've ever seen to date, I haven't seen a more Pure and Heartwarming character than Mayuri. She always brings tears to my eyes. A masterpiece in character writing.
Believe it or not, Mayuri actually sounded like a loving, caring mother to me when she was singing this. I could literally feel her affection, and tears came out without telling. After a long time, I understood how it felt to be loved.

It is in GOAT contention for sure. Few other anime have been so whole and complete with all sorts of moments and emotions. FMAB would be a close #2 for me.

I search the Kana Hanazawa Solo version because they had different lyric. In this duo the lyric is " Sagashii mono futatsu , sora ni sakuniyoii " While in the anime ( kana solo ) is " sagashii mono hitotsu , sora ni warau yo nii " Did you know the Kana Version?
Just finished this anime. It doesnt have as much high peaks as the OG Steins;Gate, but man, I've never been so constantly teary eyed watching an anime. Its really emotionally taxing to watch it. All the efforts of the characters in this worldline make the canon ending so much more bittersweet.
SG0 perfectly complimented SG. At first, i really think that Moeka and Mr Braun dont deserve better lives in SG wl. but man, after watching SG0 and their combined effort, I changed my mind.

The writer for the series Chiyomaru, said "Was there ever any guartantee the Steins Gate Word Line would be a happy future?" @@saverio_6990 the show is based on Visual Novels. There is going to be another visual novel (won't be called steins;Gate, but will have the steins part. Will also have a different main character but the voice actors for okabe, Daru and Kurisu are confirmed) and if the visual novel does really well they might make an anime for it
Just a unnecessary reminder that in the worldline in which both Makise and Mayuri are safe and WW3 didn't happen, Kagari is probably safe with her biological parents and never got to meet Mayuri :( ...unless they were meant to meet

There is also a huge possibility that Kagari's parents met only during the war in a shelter or relief zone but actually hailed from different parts of Japan which means that Kagari may not exist in Steins;Gate world line.

I needed 2 years to think about it, but I'm coming back to say that this song is probably one of the saddest anime tracks I have heard. The music itself is already melancholic, but adding the overall theme of SG0 and the distance Mayuri and Kagari have had for a long time just makes it far more impactful

Am I the only one who wants Okabe (Hikoboshi) to finally end up happily with Mayuri (Orihime)? I love Mayuri so much, she's so kind, selfless and very compassionate. I don't know why but I just feel like it was unfair for her that her feelings wasn't able to reach Okabe. I feel like Okabe was just attracted so much on Kurisu's intelligence since they were both scientists. Mayuri shall not be blamed on Kurisu's death on Beta World Line since it's actually her fate. It was Okabe's fault to begin with. I just finished the series yesterday and I can't really move on. It was really good. 😭
I think you already know this but Okabe loves Kurisu so much because whenever he's in this deep hell, Kurisu was always the one to figure out what's happening and would always help him every word line. She was basically the shining light in Okabe's everconsuming dark fatalistic-ish world and the one who truly understood his situation. hell even when she was just an AI, she still helped significantly 0kabe and the lab members Okabe will always look at Mayushii as his little sister that he loves, protects and cares for deeply.
I love Mayuri so I'm sad that Kurisu is really his love interest. They are both scientists who know exactly what's really going on which made their connection grow deeper.
Same here, I've always been rooting for Mayuri even since the first season & sees Kurisu as Okabe's war ally, that the kiss with Kurisu was so unexpected & sudden for me. Glad to see second season's doing some justice for Mayuri but am still hoping she'll end up with Okabe
He says this in the beginning of the OG Steins;Gate, he sees Mayuri as a younger sister like figure. He is more than willing to slap fate in its face to ensure Mayuri's well being but he does not see himself being romantically involved.
Since a lot of people seem to be confused about this song, I decided to write a comment about everything I learned about this song (you should read after you finish SG0 because this contains spoilers from after ep 12). This song talks about two important persons for Mayuri: Okabe and Kagari, I'll try to explain it to the best of my abilities. This song - though it was made for Okabe and Kagari specifically - is a song that you sing for someone important for you, someone you want to cheer up and help them realize that they are not alone, and that you will always support them so that they can smile again, that's why we see most of the S;G 0 characters sing it, not just Mayuri and Kagari. This song originates from a music box that Mayuri bought on Christmas eve as a gift, Mayuri loved the song and decided to add lyrics to it (this happened in a very early iteration of Steins;Gate 0, one of the early world-lines). She first added lyrics for Okabe, talking about her memories with him and that she will always be there for him and support him so that he can smile again and realize that he was never alone and that the stars are still shinning beyond the dark clouds. (I'm not 100%% sure about this, this is mostly theorized by me) Later in the future of that world-line, after she met Kagari and bonded with her, She added more lyrics talking about the day she taught her the song, and (in another world-line) she added more lyrics about an important person that she wants to meet (Kagari). Then this song traveled through the world-lines that came after, with the help of the main characters (mainly Kagari and Mayuri) and some of their relatives (like Okabe's mother or Suzuha's mother). TL by Blick Verse 1: "I'm searching for only one thing The laughing voice of the star I love Shining bright in the sky above I can reach out to it with my open wings" The "Star I love" is a metaphor for both Okabe and Kagari, She's trying to help them smile and find their smiles again. "The fish in the sea are swimming fast and free As the calm rains fall and embrace them all" This is a metaphor for a moment where Okabe and Mayuri were still young, They were playing while it was raining. To her, it was like they were two fish swimming in the sea, the only two fish in the world, It was a precious memory for her. This could also be a metaphor for when Kagari and Okabe crossed paths when he was young, since she says that she felt like she understood what her mom told her before (about being the only two fish in the world in the sea of rain) and that That it didnt feel lonely to her even though they were alone. "I've stood by your side and seen you as you've grown To tell you that you're not alone" Self explanatory Chorus: "So whenever you feel lost Take a breath and close your eyes And in time, you will find a guiding light in the skies So whenever you're asleep Take a breath with open ears Somewhere near, you will hear a gentle voice singing just for you" I think she's trying to tell Okabe (and Kagari) that they are not alone, that there is someone there for them trying to guide them when they are lost, and they will always be there for them, Singing just for them when they sleep (sleep here is a metaphor for when they are depressed and closed their hearts because of it, for Okabe it was the pain of the sacrifices he made, the death of those dear to him and killing kurisu, while for kagari it was pain she endured in that hellish future that led her to literally lose her smile, she didn't even understand what "happiness" is and why it's important because how f'd up her life was). Verse 2: "I'm searching for just one more thing A fragrant scent blooming from above The rising sun smiled down with love As our fingers twined that early morning" Not 100% sure about this one, But I think She's talking about a day in the future where She and Kagari were holding hands and walking outside, It was the day that she taught Kagari the song. "Look to the skies, and you will surely find Your memories of the past streaming through your mind Though I have no proof, nor can I tell you when, I'm sure that we will meet again." Self Explanatory, She's talking to Kagari, Telling her that they will surely remember each other and meet again no matter what. (repeat Chorus): "So whenever you feel lost Take a breath and close your eyes And in time, you will find a guiding light in the skies So whenever you're asleep Take a breath with open ears Somewhere near, you will hear a gentle voice singing just for you" Verse 3: "Beyond this veil of clouds there's a place I wanna go I took my pocket watch and my umbrella in tow Before I could take off, I started to collapse But before I hit the ground, you caught me in your grasp You held out your hand as a sign of trust And the sky started to shine, raining with stardust So no matter how grim and dark this world may be The stars shine on you endlessly" This is a very important memory of her and Okabe, one that they both never forgot. She's narrating what happened that day when she was about to break, then Okabe saved her and told her to stay. So no matter how dark the world may be, She (and his friends) will light his way. Chorus (changed): So whenever you feel lost Take a breath and close your eyes And in time, you will find a guiding light in the skies So whenever you're asleep Take a breath with open ears Somewhere near, you will hear a gentle voice singing for you to arise The same is the first Chorus. But this time, She will sing for him so that he will wake up again. I think this is a metaphor about her going back to the past in order to "wake him up". Ending: "I'm always with you I'll never leave you You're never alone I'm always with you I'll never leave you Till the end of time I'm always with you I'll never leave you I'll be there for you I will pray for the day you can smile with me anew" Self Explanatory, She will always, always, always, always be there for them, till the end of time, and she will pray for the day that they can smile with her again. Edit: Something i just found out now... Its heavily implied that Kagari and Mayuri will meet in the SG WL because in kagari's route in the SG 0 VN (spoilers): 1- Mayuri and Kagari's bond is too strong. Mayuri reassures Kagari that fate will bring them together no matter what, reaffirms that their bond can't be broken by anything, and even if they lose their memories, she will come find her. 2- the "narrator" (the writer basically) says that "No matter how far apart they were, that song would connect them together." And finally, Minor but important spoiler below from "The Hashida Familia's Love And Affection" drama CD that takes place on the SG WL: The song made it to the SGWL, so they will definitely meet 🥲.

First thing first, who is the first sing this? Young Kagari first get this from her mother Mayuri in the future, then Mayuri got this from daru's wife, she got this from okabe's mother, then okabe's mother got this from okabe himself, back in the past, young okabe got this from adult kagari who visited the past. So it creates loop/paradox, isn't it? I'm just curious who's the first one sing this song..

If you do not know origins of the song and confused read this ........ About The Song It is not a big loop. It looks like one. The start of the loop is a music box that Mayuri liked a lot, enough to add lyrics on the tune as years passed. You say "if that grown up Kagari was actually back to the past", but isn't it the whole point and fact ? Like, Suzuha and Kagari are time travelers in Steins;Gate 0. They traveled from 2036 on a worldline to 1975 on a new worldline, then to 1998 in a new worldline and they split up. Suzuha traveled to 2010 while Kagari grew up. And when you physically time travel, you obviously keep all memories you made on the previous worldline. Basically, an example sequence (probably incomplete) : Worldline 1 : Mayuri hears the music box, loves it, gifts it to Maho in 2010 and keeps singing it for years after, adding some lyrics. Before 2036, she teaches the song to young Kagari. Kagari and Suzuha travel back in time to 1975, worldline shifts as a result. Worldline 2 : Kagari gifts the song to Okabe in 2005, Okabe to his mom, his mom to Yuki. Yuki before 2036 teaches the song to Suzuha. Suzuha and Kagari time travel to 1975, again, new worldline. Worldline 3 : Kagari meets Okabe or not, it doesn't matter at this point. But Suzuha in 2010 hums the song, and Mayuri picks it up as well. Before 2036, she teaches it to Kagari (again). Suzuha and Kagari time travel to 1975. Worldline 4 (almost final) : Kagari doesn't meet Okabe in 2005. But in 2010, during the rooftop scene where Maho tells Okabe that Amadeus isn't real, the worldline shifts again because convergence is broken somehow. Worldline 5 (final) : Kagari meets Okabe in 2005 and teaches him the song. Okabe gives it to his mom. His mom to Yuki. Okabe experiences Reading Steiner from the previous worldline, which means he doesn't know shit about the song now. In the meantime, Suzuha hums the song and Mayuri picks it up. Here, we're all set up for what is shown in the anime. Okabe has no clue, his mom learned it from him. Yuki from his mom. Suzuha from Yuki in the future of an other worldline. Mayuri from Suzuha. Kagari from Mayuri in the futrue of an other worldline.
i probably cried like 2 time before i discover anime which was 2 years ago but this anime made me cried the most, the story was so deep and i feel like the emotion were true. hearing this song just make me want to tears.
I only just today watched Digi's series on all the problems 0 had, but one thing it did really well was the music. It's so good I almost can't praise it enough. The composition of some of them are so picture perfect I couldn't possibly have done the same
Entirely likely, if Okabe rescues Mayuri and Suzu then they will be reunited in the Beta line world, but I think Kagari would be like 37 and Mayuri still 18 ( I can’t remember wether or not Mayuri will age if she’s stuck in that time paradox)

This is an clear example of how good series ( speaking of anime specifically) handle not only the animation aspect, but story,characters, music and in general the synergy of everything works so well and has an really good amount of care that you can percive i, feel it. Sure i think due to the restrictions of the classic format of 24 episodes i have seen many animes ( from more or less degree ) not ruining but fast pacing some things that actually brings down the experience depending of how bad is handled, i can say for sure that even with his imperfections i actually love this series.

I needed 2 years to think about it, but I'm coming back to say that this song is probably one of the saddest anime tracks I have heard. The music itself is already melancholic, but adding the overall theme of SG0 and the distance Mayuri and Kagari have had for a long time just makes it far more impactful

Am I the only one who wants Okabe (Hikoboshi) to finally end up happily with Mayuri (Orihime)? I love Mayuri so much, she's so kind, selfless and very compassionate. I don't know why but I just feel like it was unfair for her that her feelings wasn't able to reach Okabe. I feel like Okabe was just attracted so much on Kurisu's intelligence since they were both scientists. Mayuri shall not be blamed on Kurisu's death on Beta World Line since it's actually her fate.
It was Okabe's fault to begin with. I just finished the series yesterday and I can't really move on. It was really good. 😭

but Okabe loves Kurisu so much because whenever he's in this deep hell, Kurisu was always the one to figure out what's happening and would always help him every word line. She was basically the shining light in Okabe's everconsuming dark fatalistic-ish world and the one who truly understood his situation.

Okabe will always look at Mayushii as his little sister that he loves, protects and cares for deeply.
I love Mayuri so I'm sad that Kurisu is really his love interest. They are both scientists who know exactly what's really going on which made their connection grow deeper.

He says this in the beginning of the OG Steins;Gate, he sees Mayuri as a younger sister like figure. He is more than willing to slap fate in its face to ensure Mayuri's well being but he does not see himself being romantically involved.

Since a lot of people seem to be confused about this song, I decided to write a comment about everything I learned about this song (you should read after you finish SG0 because this contains spoilers from after ep 12).
This song talks about two important persons for Mayuri: Okabe and Kagari, I'll try to explain it to the best of my abilities.
This song - though it was made for Okabe and Kagari specifically - is a song that you sing for someone important for you, someone you want to cheer up and help them realize that they are not alone, and that you will always support them so that they can smile again, that's why we see most of the S;G 0 characters sing it, not just Mayuri and Kagari.
This song originates from a music box that Mayuri bought on Christmas eve as a gift, Mayuri loved the song and decided to add lyrics to it (this happened in a very early iteration of Steins;Gate 0, one of the early world-lines).
She first added lyrics for Okabe, talking about her memories with him and that she will always be there for him and support him so that he can smile again and realize that he was never alone and that the stars are still shinning beyond the dark clouds.
(I'm not 100%% sure about this, this is mostly theorized by me) Later in the future of that world-line, after she met Kagari and bonded with her, She added more lyrics talking about the day she taught her the song, and (in another world-line) she added more lyrics about an important person that she wants to meet (Kagari).
Then this song traveled through the world-lines that came after, with the help of the main characters (mainly Kagari and Mayuri) and some of their relatives (like Okabe's mother or Suzuha's mother).

The "Star I love" is a metaphor for both Okabe and Kagari, She's trying to help them smile and find their smiles again.

This is a metaphor for a moment where Okabe and Mayuri were still young, They were playing while it was raining. To her, it was like they were two fish swimming in the sea, the only two fish in the world, It was a precious memory for her. This could also be a metaphor for when Kagari and Okabe crossed paths when he was young, since she says that she felt like she understood what her mom told her before (about being the only two fish in the world in the sea of rain) and that That it didnt feel lonely to her even though they were alone.

I think she's trying to tell Okabe (and Kagari) that they are not alone, that there is someone there for them trying to guide them when they are lost, and they will always be there for them, Singing just for them when they sleep (sleep here is a metaphor for when they are depressed and closed their hearts because of it, for Okabe it was the pain of the sacrifices he made, the death of those dear to him and killing kurisu, while for kagari it was pain she endured in that hellish future that led her to literally lose her smile, she didn't even understand what "happiness" is and why it's important because how f'd up her life was).
Verse 2:
"I'm searching for just one more thing
A fragrant scent blooming from above
The rising sun smiled down with love
As our fingers twined that early morning"
Not 100% sure about this one, But I think She's talking about a day in the future where She and Kagari were holding hands and walking outside, It was the day that she taught Kagari the song.
"Look to the skies, and you will surely find
Your memories of the past streaming through your mind
Though I have no proof, nor can I tell you when,
I'm sure that we will meet again."
Self Explanatory, She's talking to Kagari, Telling her that they will surely remember each other and meet again no matter what.
(repeat Chorus):
"So whenever you feel lost
Take a breath and close your eyes
And in time, you will find a guiding light in the skies
So whenever you're asleep
Take a breath with open ears
Somewhere near, you will hear a gentle voice singing just for you"
Verse 3:

This is a very important memory of her and Okabe, one that they both never forgot. She's narrating what happened that day when she was about to break, then Okabe saved her and told her to stay. So no matter how dark the world may be, She (and his friends) will light his way.
Chorus (changed):

And in time, you will find a guiding light in the skies
So whenever you're asleep
Take a breath with open ears
Somewhere near, you will hear a gentle voice singing for you to arise
The same is the first Chorus. But this time, She will sing for him so that he will wake up again. I think this is a metaphor about her going back to the past in order to "wake him up".
Ending:

I'm always with you
I'll never leave you
I'll be there for you

Self Explanatory, She will always, always, always, always be there for them, till the end of time, and she will pray for the day that they can smile with her again.
Edit: Something i just found out now... Its heavily implied that Kagari and Mayuri will meet in the SG WL because in kagari's route in the SG 0 VN (spoilers):
1- Mayuri and Kagari's bond is too strong. Mayuri reassures Kagari that fate will bring them together no matter what, reaffirms that their bond can't be broken by anything, and even if they lose their memories, she will come find her.
2- the "narrator" (the writer basically) says that "No matter how far apart they were, that song would connect them together."
And finally, Minor but important spoiler below from "The Hashida Familia's Love And Affection" drama CD that takes place on the SG WL:
The song made it to the SGWL, so they will definitely meet 🥲.

About The Song It is not a big loop. It looks like one. The start of the loop is a music box that Mayuri liked a lot, enough to add lyrics on the tune as years passed.
You say "if that grown up Kagari was actually back to the past", but isn't it the whole point and fact ? Like, Suzuha and Kagari are time travelers in Steins;Gate 0. They traveled from 2036 on a worldline to 1975 on a new worldline, then to 1998 in a new worldline and they split up. Suzuha traveled to 2010 while Kagari grew up.
And when you physically time travel, you obviously keep all memories you made on the previous worldline.
Basically, an example sequence (probably incomplete) :
Worldline 1 : Mayuri hears the music box, loves it, gifts it to Maho in 2010 and keeps singing it for years after, adding some lyrics. Before 2036, she teaches the song to young Kagari. Kagari and Suzuha travel back in time to 1975, worldline shifts as a result.
Worldline 2 : Kagari gifts the song to Okabe in 2005, Okabe to his mom, his mom to Yuki. Yuki before 2036 teaches the song to Suzuha. Suzuha and Kagari time travel to 1975, again, new worldline.
Worldline 3 : Kagari meets Okabe or not, it doesn't matter at this point. But Suzuha in 2010 hums the song, and Mayuri picks it up as well. Before 2036, she teaches it to Kagari (again). Suzuha and Kagari time travel to 1975.
Worldline 4 (almost final) : Kagari doesn't meet Okabe in 2005. But in 2010, during the rooftop scene where Maho tells Okabe that Amadeus isn't real, the worldline shifts again because convergence is broken somehow.
Worldline 5 (final) : Kagari meets Okabe in 2005 and teaches him the song. Okabe gives it to his mom. His mom to Yuki. Okabe experiences Reading Steiner from the previous worldline, which means he doesn't know shit about the song now. In the meantime, Suzuha hums the song and Mayuri picks it up. Here, we're all set up for what is shown in the anime. Okabe has no clue, his mom learned it from him. Yuki from his mom. Suzuha from Yuki in the future of an other worldline. Mayuri from Suzuha. Kagari from Mayuri in the futrue of an other worldline.

This is an clear example of how good series ( speaking of anime specifically) handle not only the animation aspect, but story,characters, music and in general the synergy of everything works so well and has an really good amount of care that you can percive i, feel it. Sure i think due to the restrictions of the classic format of 24 episodes i have seen many animes ( from more or less degree ) not ruining but fast pacing some things that actually brings down the experience depending of how bad is handled, i can say for sure that even with his imperfections i actually love this series.
