- You remember POGS. The small, round, cartoon-adorned collectibles that started out as milk bottle caps. In 1991, an elementary school teacher in Hawaii introduced them to her students, thinking it would improve their math skills. As the game grew in popularity, businessman Alan Rypinski purchased the trademark and founded the World Pog Federation, kicking off the '90s phenomenon.

First time I ever saw a girl be a business women too. She would walk around the area with her POG case trying to sell/trade etc LOL such fantastic memories
I played this game growing up, the slammer pog had to be slightly slammed down at the edge of the pigs from maybe an inch or two away from the pog stack, the simple rules were good and yus whatever flipped over you kept and the one with most pogs won. I remember trading them all over school and we all played at home and school as well, I miss those days!

Fun fact, in Russia we called paper pogs "taso" or "fishka" and we played without slammers. We just took a stack between index finger and thumb and threw on flat surface. Rest of the rules were same.
