I worked in retail in Beverly Hills when Katie Holmes was pregnant, and lo and behold she walked in to my store one day surrounded by about 5 minders. They kept their distance but it was obvious she couldn’t be alone at all. I can’t imagine being monitored to that extent and I’m sure she was happy to leave it all behind!
On the other hand, I have a hard time believing she wouldn't have security with her when she is in public. She is so famous that there are bound to be fans that get too touchy or paparazzi violating her personal space that she needs the security. But of course it would suck to know those minders will report everything you say and do to others.

She needed some help from me as she is going through probate for her father's estate which has been painful and basically a clusterf%@$! Anyway, she had become a Mormon. She recently told me that she has left the LDS, BECAUSE of watching you guys on the Aftermath show! My prayers were answered and I am so thrilled to get that news! Just the fact that Tom Cruise has absolutely nothing to do with his own daughter, Suri, says it all about Scientology (although I know there are a lot of frightening, dark components to that cult). But, any "religion" that tells someone to completely disown their own child is not a religion and completely antithetical to spreading love and kindness.
That’s what pisses me off about their tax exempt status, they 100% qualify as a cult, and have attacked our government, and yet the government doesn’t make them pay a dime.

My mom and my stepdad were Scientologist, i started doing courses at the age of 6, my mom physically abuse me throughout my childhood, would threat to kill me and even cut my arm with a knife.
People in the church knew, and no one did anything! It came to a point where I belived it was my fault that was happening if all the "adults" wouldn't say anything.
My brother was part of the Sea Org and was not allowed to talk to me at all.

I'm glad the JWs are being exposed, too. I studied with them for years. I'm still recovering from their indoctrination, even though I've had nothing to do with them for decades. I was in a different religious group and my children were denied many things. The most lovely thing my daughter said to someone else was “ there was no malice in her” in describing my earlier choices. It gave me a starting point for healing. ❤

I definitely agree with Mike that they were just so happy to get rid of Tom from their lives and they just wanted the divorce done and over with. It is really unfortunate for Nicole that her children with Tom have chosen Scientology over their own mother. I think Katie is also thinking of her daughter's protection and her daughter's safety as well as her own and who knows maybe they both are under a gag order or something. That's what went through my mind. Like Mike said and I believe it too they just wanted their marriages to be over with. LOL I have a father I will never forgive. I live my happy life just fine and am very jolly. It's just my nature to be positive in most things. I can compartmentalize and am mature enough to understand that different feelings deserve to be felt and honored for different circumstances and "dark" feelings need not bleed into anything else. Most people can do that, actually.

Parents can definitely be difficult, Leah. As you and your mom work through this stage, it might give you some grace to remind yourself that she left Scientology with you. This allows your relationship to grow, and your daughter gets to know her. That doesn’t mean there will be no more trying times; I’m a never in and had issues with my mom that I tried to work on in her later years, but at least there’s the opportunity to do this work. Breathe 💓

My brother in law was dating an up and coming ballerina back in the 1980’s. Beautiful girl but a little fragile emotionally.
Scientology got their hooks in and suddenly her own mother, her boyfriend and the teachers in her school became the enemy. We fought long and hard to get her help but we were not successful. In those days there were no places for families to turn to to assist with rehabbing cult survivors.
It was absolutely tragic. She ended up dropping out of her scholarship to the Australian Ballet and committing g suicide a year later.

I had this question today after Mike said dozens of senior staff were kept in a conference room for weeks on end.... if they were actually doing meaningful work (not busy work) an organization would shut down without the senior staff.

As a landscape photographer from Plant City, Florida who takes many photographs of the Clearwater area, a few years back…I won a special dinner for one of my photos, coming from a country girl from Plant City .. I didn’t have a clue about Scientology except from my father who said they were non believers of God. My father saw me reading a book and freaked out, some book I thought was just a self help book. Well, I’m so thankful he explained it to me, because after I read this book, they WOULDNT leave me alone… That was in like the late 80’s.
Anyway, I become a photographer and again, they reach out to be not telling me who they were…BUT THE DINNER I WON WAS AT THAT RESTAURANT right by the marina in Clearwater….

I always get the impression that Tom has a volatile temper. I've seen him in interviews where he loses his cool, and I always get the impression that's who he really is; not the all smiles/ jump on the couch guy in other interviews.

Absolutely he does. The reason we usually wouldn't see that is probably because he has had so much training and Scientology drills to not show it.
However, that would just have taught him to bottle himself up, I suspect. Not to actually deal with his feelings.
I just have to say Leah how much I appreciate your honesty and openness about Scientology. I dont know you personally, but you seem like a very intelligent person. You are also such a talented actress and are truly my favorite for many years. I watch The King Of Queens all the time, and I still laugh at how funny you guys are. Any time I am having a hard day, I turn on the show, and the bad day dissappears. It is truly a genius- especially with you in it. Thank you!!!

I remember being in Boston in 1983 with my fiancé. We were just walking around town on NYE and were approached by a nice young person who talked to us about our current lives and how we wanted it to be better. We walked back to some building and went inside. Someone did begin to ask us questions but honestly most of it is now a blur. I’m pretty darned sure this was a SCN center and luckily we bolted out of there the more they probed us. I’m so grateful that we did not get sucked in! Dodged a bullet! Oh and we also spotted Moonies that night too but they didn’t bother us!

Leah, at 41 minutes you talk about your relationship with your mother and how tough it is. The fact that you have recognized that you're doing your best, which is amazing, but that can hurt your children even if that was NEVER your intent and apologize is absolutely amazing.
My mother is incredibly abusive and I had to cut all contact 10 years ago because she could not and would not believe she hurt me. You just saying 'I see that it caused a bad affect/choice and I'm sorry' is so touching. You may be learning it, but the fact you're welcoming that change is amazing.
Thank you for your work on this topic and showing this way of acknowledging generational hurt and working to be better in your response. I hope I can be like that when my children are older.

Excellent final segment! The statement on not expecting children to understand what parents have to do is so evidently obvious yet we disregard it so easily.
I didn’t know much about Scientology just that I didn’t like the sound of this cult, I then watched the aftermath programme and was shocked, horrified, saddened and everything in between. Will there actually ever be an end to this evil cult?
It takes such strength and bravery to walk away from that environment knowing the dangers involved and the pain of losing those you love 💕

I hope Nicole and Katie know that we know, and understand. The more that the general public knows, the sooner we can eradicate Scientology. My heart goes out to everyone who has ever been hurt by them. Even though I've been dying for decades to know what Nicole has to say it goes without saying what happened. Unbelievable. My letters to my congressman have been sent demanding investigation into their tax exemption and things to do with human rights. I'm not making any sense, lol I get so angry about all this.
