I really liked that too and likes the Splinter in the 2012 version although when he was killed he made the mistake of turning his back on Shredder......you'd think he would know better.
I actually really liked the rise Karai, even if (SPOILERS) she died too soon. I don’t think there has been a truly good aligned Karai ever and for some reason I really liked it. I want a series where Casey is a main antagonist for a while. I don’t count rise cause we didn’t know it was Casey and never masked up and fought crime.
To me, Splinter being human before his transformation is a great way to telegraph a very real fear people have: rejection. Yoshi chose to isolate himself willingly to keep himself safe but now had four children to look after, on top of his own transformation. He knows that people over all, despite exceptions in April and Casey being the most notable, would never fully accept him or the Turtles and thus chose to stay hidden.
So in the IDW comics they give us the reason why and how Hamato Yoshi and his boys were reincarnated. After Oroku Saki kills them, Kraang hears about the ordeal and figures that they must of been very important because of the way they were killed. So he took, not only DNA but also QNA (probably something along the lines of memories/spirit). The Ooze that was given for the animal experiments had those in it. Everything comes back to Kraang. Would love to see this play out like Thanos mixed with Mr. Sinister type shit.
I grew up with the more comic accurate origins of Splinter. Rather you think which take is better or makes sense, I feel as long Splinter’s overall backstory is about loosing his family should be most important. Him as a Pet Rat still very much has that lost of family, even hits harder in 2003 series when Splinter briefly reunited with Hamato Yoshi in the Demon Shedder Arc.
I have different "favorites" for different reasons: 1987: Very basic, kind of funny, reflects the feel of the series. 2012: Makes the most sense, gives off the family-type relationship between the Turtles and Splinter, helps introduce the villains. Lol I forgot the rest
@@geenhaaien I believe most interactions of Master Splinter has him being a human, who was mutated into a anthropomorphized rat. The only time I can recall Splinter being a rat mutated into "humanoid" form, was the TMNT movies (from the 90s). The "Nick TMNT" did a great job of showing Splinter & Shredder's shared past, even going so far as to weave Karai into it. Connecting Splinter & Shredder thru their "daughter" (Karai) makes all those involved far more compelling. It makes Splinter far more sympathetic & shows that even Shredder has "a softer side". And it also gives more credence to Karai's "turn from villainy to heroics". I never really cared too much for stories where hardened villains became "heroes"....just because. At least now Karai has a far more compelling reason to switch sides (aside from her "liking" Leo).
The Ooze wasn't even supposed to be a hybrid-making or gene-splicing mutagen in the original comics. There, it just mutated you into whatever was the most advanced version of your own species. How it can do that, I don't know. It's like it can foresee the future? LOL. I mean, evolution doesn't work that way. But, just thought I'd say it anyway. I like both versions of his origin, by the way, but I prefer him being a rat first honestly.
@@Luka1180 So in the original comics Master Splinter was an actual rat turned "humanoid" (like in the OG movies)? The "gene-splicing" aspect of mutagen makes more sense to me. I like Hamato Yoshi being turned into a "humanoid rat", instead of merely being his pet rat turned "humanoid". It's kind of like the movie "The Fly" & it's probably more jarring for a human to be mutated, because they have a whole history, friends, and/or family to deal with. I'm guessing the OG concept of mutagen accelerated the "evolution" process and/or re-wrote DNA (kind of like how RNA does).

Unfortunately, they bastardized Hun, Bishop, and Tokka, and they left the Federation out of their version of "Turtles In Space", but there is so much good stuff in there! Bebop & Rocksteady are awesome and you won't see it coming when it's revealed who become Bebop & Rocksteady, just before they get mutated against their wills, the Fugitoid is played wonderfully by David Tennant, the Shredder becomes the Super Shredder, and there are 2 crossovers with the TMNT of the 1987 TV series, both of which have the 1987 TV series's version of Krang, and the 2nd of which also features the 1987 TV series's version of the Shredder.
When people ask me about the 2012 series, I always tell them "Watch 'Lone rat and cubs' before you start watching the series itself, because a better intro into the series you simply will NOT get." It also was a master stroke to NOT turn Splinter into this little Yoda-like figure, he's tall authoritative and in his forties rather than in his seventies. And yet, he's also the dad, the guy who's behind his sons no matter what.
I will always prefer Splinter having been a rat owned by Hamato Yoshi. Not just because it's the version I knew first from the 2003 show, but because there's a certain sense of loss. Splinter lost his master and owner, who he loved and learned from before he was killed by the Shredder. Therefore, he carries heartache, even when he had his Turtle sons later on, who never got to know their master's master, pretty much their grandfather. It adds emotion and stakes whenever the Turtles and Splinter fight against the Shredder.
I found the IDW origin to be pretty good to be honest and it gets dark in some good ways. One of my favourite ways is (spoiler) how Leo is haunted by dreams of seeing his mother from his previous life. How this impacts him and affects a major arc in the story was well done. I personally also liked how Splinter was written in IDW's comics, especially with how he dealt with Raph's anger at one point. Good comic and worth checking out. Make sure to read the Annuals too.

I prefer the origin story as a rat. The human orgin splinter sometimes comes off like he resents the turtles sometimes, like in the back of his head they remind him he'll never be human (that's the vibe I get lol).

Yes the archies splinjter origin is the same as the 80s cartoon because the archie comics are a split continuity of the cartoon, the first comics were adaptations from the cartoon series but from a certain point the comics split and did their own things
I like both the 1990s movie version and 2012 version of splinter but I like 2012 origin version better because learning ninjutsu from hamato yoshi/splinter version makes more sense.
My favorite one is the 1990 movie version. One thing I think you didn’t mention is that Shredder cut off splinter’s ear after he scratched up his face. In every other version both his ears are fine.
Honestly, I grew up on both the 87 series and the 90 movie, and it's only the latter I still love. I always preferred the pet rat, just because I always preferred when the mutants were animals turned humanoid rather than humans turned animalistic.
my favorite splinter is the forst i came in contact with the 1987 animated series. and i think that originestory is the most "realistic" that splinter was hamato yoshi and it makes the most sense to me
Agrees. I've even asked people who don't know the series what they think and they also agree that it makes more sense that Master Splinter is Hamato Yoshi.
i like the 80's and 2012 take on it where he was human to start with it fitted better for me then the first comic Origin ok they were raised and trained by a guy who was a ninja and knew the human world but the he was a rat that became a human rat that picked up how to be a ninja from back before he became a ratman and was able to undestand the world to the point he knew they had to stay hidden yes i know that might just be the rat part of him but still the human to start works better for me
I prefer the Mirage/1990/2003 origin because it's the one that makes the most sense to me and is also similar to Daredevil's origin, who's one of my favourite Marvel Heroes.
I prefer the ones where he's human before becoming a mutated rat. I never liked the while he's a basic pet rat that he already has the intelligence to train in ninjutsu just by watching his master doing some moves.
I actually liked the Michael Bay version, it was simple. And on that I prefer the rat from day one version, feels he's closer with the turtles. The once human splinter always seems to hold some regret towards them.
I grew up with the pet rat story but I do like the hamato yoshi story a bit better It adds to the splinter vs shredder dynamic and gives him more of a valid position to be a mentor
I remember watching the 2012 cartoon after watching the Bay movies. And I was like, there he turned into a rat because he touched a rat, the turtles turned into humanoids because they touched a human. There was that SO difficult?
I know a lot of people who are fans of TMNT as adults loved the 1987 series as a kid but I never really got into that series it always seemed a little too gimmicky and while the overall plot makes some sense the smaller episodic plots make absolutely no sense to me, and it became too much of a sell out. I guess it was great back in the 80's when it first came out but I grew up with the 2003 series and didn't actually get into turtles until I was a teenager and it was that one I watched first. As for the Michael Bay movies I don't understand why everyone hates on it. I think it is a pretty good fresh look at the turtles and it doesn't skimp on the action or character development.
My favourite origin is the one from TMNT 2012, because this version is the reason I got into the TMNT world :), but I'm up to date with the TMNT IDW cómics, which I FULLY RECOMMEND, and I also like their story, it's just amazing and opens a new path for the adventures.
Forgive me for not remembering what comic this is from, but one combines the orgin of the 87 splitter with the 2003 splinter as well as others. Basically, in this version, he was Hamato yoshi, but he had to fight oroku Saki over the death of his brother. (I can't remember what happened to his brother) he than lost this fight but the leader of the foot clan of the time(in japan) stopped him and gave hamato yoshi 72 hours to get out of the "realm" so he flees to NY. Years later, after living sometime in NY with his wife, oroku Saki had been sent to start up an NY portion of the foot, Well he did that and accumulated a bunch of power, hunted down Yoshi and killed his wife. He comes home and is attacked by the foot, managing to escape he finds himself in a sewer. Low and behold, he finds 4 turtles covered in ooze being attacked by a rat. He smacks the rat away. Making contact with the ooze for the first time in the process. He then proceeds to pick up the turtles and walk down the sewer. They find what would eventually become known as the turtle lair. He rests for the night, and by morning he was the rat version we all know and love.... If I find the comic I'll edit this comment(if I remember)
I like the 1990 movie splenter. He must take up the mantel of master and bare the burden of shredder. The whole theing comes full circle. Classic. The 2012 i love the twist of splinters daughter and the 2012 pays so much homage to its predecessors
Although I grew up with the 80's cartoon but I watched both the 1990 movie and 2003 Series I like the idea of Splinter being the Pet of Hamato Yoshi. My AU take on the TMNT I use the elements from the 1990 movie and 2003 Series
If you have not seen any of the 2012 TMNT show just watch one episode, Lone Rat And Cubs. Splinter is telling the boys about the first few days after being mutated. And I think it kind of has a Tarantino feel to it. That seasons also shows you what would happen if you crossed TMNT with Mad Max. It Is So Good.
The 2003 cartoon and the original live action movie Splinter are my favourte because they show Splinter to be wise can caring, sure the 2003 cartoon shows him to be a capable fighter, but its how he written that makes him likeable, the wise old Rat whom the Turtles look to as their father figure and love dearly.
2012 was odee lit. I hated how they drew them but my god that story was bananas. Had everything I mean everything they 90s could never do. They kicked so much ass it wasn’t even funny but that story was the best yet on tv
Nash Martinez Originally they had meant to animate the rat bitting him but Nickelodeon thought it was a TAD too graphic. For some reason. I clearly don't know
Did you see Micah MX600's previous comment? He said that Nickelodeon never animated the rat biting him, because it was too graphic. It would be helpful if you could link a clip of the origin story, so I could watch it. My memory when it comes to that part is a tad rusty.
I think splinter being hamato yoshi sounds a bit more logical than splinter being yoshi‘s pet rat and him imitating yoshi‘s movements. I might be a bit bias since I grew up watching the 2012 series
they're all stupid except the ones where he's originally a human. it really doesn't make sense otherwise, and it really deflates the tension of the orokusaki/yoshi rivalry. It's dumb in the original 1990 movie that shredder would have such a hatred for splinter, tried to justify with is scarred face but that always seemed clunky and stupid.
I agree that I prefer Splinter starting off as human but the tension of the turtles vs shredder in the 90 movies wasn't due to the scar. It's because the turtles keep stopping him and because the turtles remind shredder of Hamato Yoshi
I basically sticking to the comic version when he was a rat. In my opinion I think its much better since his son's was already turtles and both were affected by the mutagen. The best take on Splinter origin is the IDW comics which was a pretty interesting story and I would not spoil it for you guys who didn't read it yet. But the lab scenario and April naming Splinter and the turtles while interning for Baxter Stockman at Stockgen was also in the IDW. #TheOldTurtleDen if you want to learn more about the IDW comics of TMNT an easier way for you to read all the issues... This RUclips channel STARFORCE MEDIA do a very phenomenal motion comic bit for each Volume even the One-Shot. It's very entertaining to watch and listening to. 9 mins ahead : I don't want to spoil it
Honestly, I grew up on both the 87 series and the 90 movie, and it's only the latter I still love. I always preferred the pet rat, just because I always preferred when the mutants were animals turned humanoid rather than humans turned animalistic.
My favorite origin is the Mirage comics because I like the idea of Shredder kinda avenging his brother. Makes him more sympathetic
You know I really love the 2018 origin as well! I think Lou Jistu is a very fresh take on the origin
my favorite splinter is the forst i came in contact with the 1987 animated series. and i think that originestory is the most "realistic" that splinter was hamato yoshi and it makes the most sense to me
Agrees.
I've even asked people who don't know the series what they think and they also agree that it makes more sense that Master Splinter is Hamato Yoshi.
i like the 80's and 2012 take on it where he was human to start with it fitted better for me then the first comic Origin ok they were raised and trained by a guy who was a ninja and knew the human world but the he was a rat that became a human rat that picked up how to be a ninja from back before he became a ratman and was able to undestand the world to the point he knew they had to stay hidden yes i know that might just be the rat part of him but still the human to start works better for me
I always liked the origin where Splinter is Yoshi and not his pet rat
Me too. It makes more sense honestly.
I like how the movie stream lined the original comic origin.
I prefer the Mirage/1990/2003 origin because it's the one that makes the most sense to me and is also similar to Daredevil's origin, who's one of my favourite Marvel Heroes.
A rat learning ninjitsu just by watching is the most sensible to you?
@@fightingmedialounge519 stfu
@@GREG_Khar-NÜ-Metalhead2000 because?
@@fightingmedialounge519 because ppl can like what they like and u should mind ur own business!
@@GREG_Khar-NÜ-Metalhead2000 never said they couldn't. Was simply asking a question cupcake.
I prefer the ones where he's human before becoming a mutated rat. I never liked the while he's a basic pet rat that he already has the intelligence to train in ninjutsu just by watching his master doing some moves.
Master Splinter is awesome.
Actually the 2007 movie is it's own universe
-Peter Laird
I agree but the designs are imilar to 2003 tmnt expecialy back to the sewer so maybe its that universe?

#QAVIDEO what is your favorite episode of the 2013 series so far and who is your favorite villian
2012 version has the best story!
2012 series was the best one and had the best splinter.
I actually liked the Michael Bay version, it was simple. And on that I prefer the rat from day one version, feels he's closer with the turtles. The once human splinter always seems to hold some regret towards them.
One problem how could he read
The first live action and the CGI movies are without a doubt the best
I grew up with the pet rat story but I do like the hamato yoshi story a bit better
It adds to the splinter vs shredder dynamic and gives him more of a valid position to be a mentor
The only origins I respect is where Splinter starts out as a regular🐀rat, then gets mutated🧪by the ooze...💯✔ That's only logical...👌🏼
It doesn’t though xd
Not really.
No it Dosent.
My favourite origin is the one from TMNT 2012, because this version is the reason I got into the TMNT world :), but I'm up to date with the TMNT IDW cómics, which I FULLY RECOMMEND, and I also like their story, it's just amazing and opens a new path for the adventures.
The 2012 origin for me is the best because it seems way more realistic than the others
I didn't like the 2012 at first but at awhile it grew on me
Although I grew up with the 80's cartoon but I watched both the 1990 movie and 2003 Series I like the idea of Splinter being the Pet of Hamato Yoshi. My AU take on the TMNT I use the elements from the 1990 movie and 2003 Series
can u make a video about the party wagon from the old turtles series also when will u release the review on episode 3 of the rise of the tmnt
My favorite origin was the 2012 version
My favourite is definitely the 2012 version!
I like it better Hamato Yoshi is Splinter story than Splinter being a pet rat.
2012 is the best show in my opinion
My favorite backstory is the IDW comics version where he and the turtles are the reincarnations of Hamato Yoshi and his sons.
2012 was odee lit. I hated how they drew them but my god that story was bananas. Had everything I mean everything they 90s could never do. They kicked so much ass it wasn’t even funny but that story was the best yet on tv
2012 splinter was actually bitten by the rat and that's what made him a rat
Ethan Cuckler Calm down, okay? He was just trying to say that the rat bit him, and then the mutagen hit him. Chill.
Nash Martinez Originally they had meant to animate the rat bitting him but Nickelodeon thought it was a TAD too graphic. For some reason. I clearly don't know
Okay.
Have you even watched the series?
Did you see Micah MX600's previous comment? He said that Nickelodeon never animated the rat biting him, because it was too graphic. It would be helpful if you could link a clip of the origin story, so I could watch it. My memory when it comes to that part is a tad rusty.
You can’t learn martial arts from a book.
Yeah can’t believe that in a universe with aliens and mutated animals
@@YungBeezer Does that make it any less dumb
In a world with aliens and magic of course you can
I think splinter being hamato yoshi sounds a bit more logical than splinter being yoshi‘s pet rat and him imitating yoshi‘s movements. I might be a bit bias since I grew up watching the 2012 series
2003 is low key the best
I'm with you, the 2012 one is the best.
I like the 2012 the best!
they're all stupid except the ones where he's originally a human. it really doesn't make sense otherwise, and it really deflates the tension of the orokusaki/yoshi rivalry.
Plus it gives him more experience and a better position to be a mentor
Bro it's a cartoon
@@sdm47 Nah.
I kind of want to see an origin where Splinter says he was the pet of Hamato Yoshi but it turns out he WAS Yoshi all along.
Feels like you actually watching a TV series😂 lol. The funny thing is that I think the 2012 TMNT kind of pull heavily for those comics.
My favourite version of Splinter's origin story is the 2012 version, and parts of the 2003 version.
OK look! Rat mimic human moves is less "extreme" than reincarnation, and I believe in reincarnation.
to me 2012 was one favoite ones havent seen much of 2003 toon since i was a kid trying to rewatch it but i don't know where to find it free.
2012 splinter is the best written. 2003 splinter is okay
I grew up on '87 Yoshi/Splinter.
Can you do a video about TMNT what if stories
How did you get that music Without words? I have tmnt2 secret of the ooze soundtrack and it has words.
