They should have added "Boyz in the hood" & "Django unchained". When Tre and his dad are listening to "Ooh, child"(5 Stairsteps), I lose it everytime because I feel that way about my kids. Django riding through mountain country with "Carry me down the highway"(Jim Croce's) reminds me of the feeling I have about God and myself in achieving my permanent sobriety.
I feel there was category missing for soundtrack that directs the story. And Watchmen deserved to top that list instead of the one it was put up against Forrest Gump in.
Forrest Gump is just a dull film that most film enthusiasts (snobs), critics, those-in-the-know would not admit to even liking. Its like trying to get a punk rock fan to admit to talk about the merits of The Backstreet Boys. It's a movie for the masses with a ridiculous plot: a dumb white guy manages to bear witness to some of America's most iconic events and doesn't even realize it! War, racism, AIDS all fail to faze him. I swear to God the spirit of the GOP lives within the film. The Graduate and Pulp Fiction soundtracks are so much better than Forrest Gump, as are a host of other soundtracks. Gump is a rip off of the Big Chill soundtrack anyways.
It is really multiple top ten lists in one. It is not one list since #1 is not better than #`10. Just different. So it is not really fair to the other lists really. But I like them.

Yessss! Finally “Marie Antoinette” has one one of the categories! I’ve waited so long for this! When you mentioned “Knight’s tale” but not this one, I knew it won! Thank you! Thank you!
Jackie Brown, Dumb & Dumber, Beetlejuice, The Blues Brothers, Falling Down, Full Metal Jacket, Varsity Blues, American Psycho, and let's not forget Clue (aka best film of all-time). You guys could do a part 2..
Hey man, if were gonna talk about our favorite movie soundtracks. I can talk all day. At least with movie's I'm not gonna be harassed too much. I like the Soundtracks too Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Scarface did great with the use of 80's pop songs. Next to fear and loathing in Los Vegas, Natural Born Killers A Clockwork Orange, and The Big Lebowski. Also The Movie's Hay Good Lookin, Fritz the Cat, Heavy Metal, and Heavy Traffic. Those Are my Favorites.
I would have liked to have seen One-Artist Soundtracks as a category, Eddie Vedder for “Into the Wild”, e.g. Also, more than one Scorsese mention would have been nice.
kushan shah Pulp Fiction is underrated classic. The way Badalamenti's score, works through the songs, make a complete concept, which I would always get asked about. *Meant to type Lost Highway, not Pulp Fiction
Phoebe Dowling I agree. I had actually just replied to a Lost Highway comment, and posted Lost Highway myself. I either just mistook Pulp Fiction for Lost Highway, or I replied to your comment by accident. Pulp Fiction has an excellent soundtrack, that was very popular, and definitely not underrated. 😬Oops

Markó Mihály : Nope, you’re wrong! Other hits include “Take My Breathe Away” which is the ultimate power ballad, along with other mega hits from that soundtrack!
To have Eminem's 8 Mile as one of the best movie soundtracks of all time proves how genius Eminem really was, is and always be. Same goes with Purple Rain (miss you alot, Prince!).
When Shadow of the Sun and that coyote scene came on in Collateral, I got shivers. I know it's a TV Series but Cowboy Bebop has an AMAZING soundtrack and even that is an understatement. I also would mention Garden State, Tron Legacy, Into the Wild, and Fury Road.
When I moved to Minneapolis, I always used to complain that its a cultureless shithole, but when Prince died two years ago and I saw how the city reacted, for the first time I was impressed. Every light in the city was turned purple, Paisley Park became a Mecca, free concerts by A-list musicians playing their favorite Prince tracks, free showings of _Purple Rain_ - but most impressive was when I got on a LRT train and everyone was singing _When Doves Cry_ Its too bad that I only discovered the culture when it was dead. Besides all that, _Purple Rain_ is one of the greatest albums ever produced.
what I love about this channel is that while I may not always agree with their choices I cant be mad because they actually know film, unlike watchmojo who just goes with popular opinions, cinefix actually knows what filmmaking is!!!!
Brief Encounter may not have a long soundtrack list, but it's use of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 as a recurring theme throughout the movie is absolutely masterful.
Great list as always! Tommy should’ve gotten an honorable mention for the #3 slot in my opinion, but hey, this is a tough list as is. A few were bound to slip through the cracks.
Could not believe The Commitments didn't 'win' let alone get a mention in the category of creating a band as an excuse for a great soundtrack. Usually these Top 10 cinefix things leave no stone unturned, and this episode was one of their best efforts - but seriously guys, no Commitments ?!?
Thanks for giving the Monkees' "Head" at least a little love. Some of their best music is on that soundtrack. "Porpoise Song" and "Circle Sky" are phenomenal tracks.
It’s weird my favourite soundtracks didn’t get top spots. But when they get mentioned by you guys. It makes me so happy. I usually watch these count downs on other sites getting angry that my choice wasn’t mentioned. But you guys put so much more into your lists. I have discovered so many great film thanks to you . So Thank You 🙌🏼🤜💥🤛
No Tron: Legacy? Daft Punk’s score is utterly phenomenal Edit: Tim T is right, it was written specifically for the movie, so it doesn’t qualify for the list. My bad
It's okay, they briefly showed The Graduate and that soundtrack was also written for the movie (as was "Don't You Forget About Me" for Breakfast Club).
HOW DID YOU NOT EVEN MENTION RADIO DAYS?! Almost every single scene has an unforgettable song. For what's worth, every Woody Allen film should have been mentioned
You guys are the amazing!!!!!!!!!! Keep the amazing work up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please some do some top ten videos for: 1) Cameos 2) Comic Relief Characters 3) Fourth Wall Breaks 4) Franchises 5) Musicals
Great Top 10, Thanks A very influecial Sountrack was in my Opinion the "Jugment Night" Soundtrack It almost startet the Crossovecraze between Metal an Hip Hop alone and the Tracklist ist just amazing.
I nearly exclusively listen to film soundtracks and nothing to me could ever beat the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. It changed my life the first time I heard it when I was 11 and I feel the same way about it today
I'm a bit disappointed that there was just a concentration on soundtracks who are used as background influencing. There are so many great soundtracks which help to tell the story. Most of the soundtracks shown here have little to none narratologic meaning except of building the world. Such a mist opportunity...
Great list once again! One category I missed though that music is ALL ABOUT for me: making you emotional. Anger, sadness, melancholy, fear, love, empathy, passion, enthusiasm, hopelessness, understanding the emotion of the main character. Under these aspects there are certainly better overall picks but personally, the soundtrack of CLOUD ATLAS gets me every time
I would put the "Goodfellas" sound track in there. Not just for the strength of material, but how each musical piece was introduced at the end of one scene to compel/propel you into the next. This soundtrack holds the viewers as effectively as anything ever put on film!
A Knight's Tale soundtrack made a relatively simple story into something much more entertaining and fun. I loved the way it was woven into the sounds of the movie. Without it, the movie would have been really mediocre even with its great cast.
I think this soundtrack was far better integrated into the film than their top pick (marie antoinette, I think they chose). Since A Knight's Tale actually had the characters perform actions/sounds that built into the beginnings of the songs, it was one of the absolute best uses of music in films EVER. Shame on them for not choosing it.
A movie named Museo just came out in Mexico this week, with Gael García Bernal, and it's use of "La Noche de los Mayas" was outstanding in my opinion, makes the film feel much more ominous and epic, while still keeping it a grounded, character driven film.
Mean Streets (which I first saw at a drive-in when there still was such a thing in the '70's) was, for my money, the first time a soundtrack functioned as an absolutely pivotal character in film -- it demonstrates experientially how important the music is and should have been recognized here.
I fell crazily in love with The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. I love Magnolia as well. And 50 First Dates just collected favorite music of mine. Edit: I also really love Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess, along with Sense and Sensibility (classical and beautiful)
#2 deserves an update for bohemian rhapsody. Absolutely love your channel tho! You all clearly care a lot, and also put in effort to make it about the art rather than just another "top 10" channel
Sofia Coppola chose the french group Air to write the score for The Virgin Suicides. It's one of the most hauntingly beautiful ever, and perfectly evokes the mystery of the girls and their deaths. Amazing.
Harry BuddhaPalm I really loved the movie when I saw it in the theater. It hasn't aged as well as Wild At Heart, or Mulholland Drive, imo, but that soundtrack is excellent. Could've added the Song to the Siren, but that's a small issue. I listen to it on road trips, and it works as its own concept album for me.
I was happy to see clips from Scott Pilgrim in here. That soundtrack does a great job of referencing it's source material and inspiration - from its 8 bit originals giving a nod to its video game inspirations to the song that gave the titular character his name. I'm biased because Scott Pilgrim is my favorite graphic novel series of all time, but. I was still glad to see it referenced!
Barry Lyndon isn't set in Victorian England. "Victorian" refers to the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837-1901. Barry Lyndon takes place between 1750 and 1789. Some of it is set in England, but a lot of it is set in Ireland, Germany, and Belgium.
Couldn't agree more with Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? It's my dad's favorite movie and we used to listen to the soundtrack all the time. Every song is unique and incredibly catchy, even when sung by a chorus of little girls or some twangy hillbilly guy. Plus, it introduced me to Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Emmylou Harris, and the Coen Brothers. Great great pick and, as always, great list.
Dazed and confused, O brother; where art thou, Dirty Dancing, Roadhouse (RIP Jeff Healey & Patrick Swayze) Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2, Suicide Squad (terrible movie but great music) Are all my favorite movie soundtracks. But probably because I like the music rather than any cinematic reasoning, lol.
Great choices. I fully agree with your selection. A reference to any Tarantino Soundtrack is missing, though - he's a master on choosing music for his films and gives you real treasures. Impossible to include them all, but one of my favorite soundtracks is Leaving Las Vegas. It really gives you the right mood in every scene. Or the soundtrack from any of Pedro Almodovar's movies. He also knows how to use music to produce the right effect.
man... I've never thought of Forest Gump because of its Soundtrack.. but now that you made me realize how cool it was and the progression over the Years of forest in the movie.. its clear to me how freaking amazing it is.
Your musical lists are all excellent, but I just feel that the very wonderful "Once," with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova was a near perfect movie/musical with a timeless soundtrack of songs written by the two leads. And the music is such a key component, as the two artists start to gravitate together while recording an album. But it's such a hybrid of some of the components above, I'm not sure where it would even fall in. You could make a case for best soundtrack, but they wrote the songs there. By far one of the best Musical Moments of all time is when the pair sing Falling Slowly for the first time in the back of a piano shop.
I've been saying for years that there should be a "Best Use of Music" category rather than "Original Score" and "Original Song." Who cares if "2001: A Space Odyssey," "American Graffiti," and even "Singin' in the Rain" borrowed music from other sources rather than composed it specifically for their films? And "To Sir With Love" proved that just one song could dominate an entire movie more so than many films' entire soundtracks or scores.
Wayne Chapman they should definitely be different categories, but "best arranged music" or "best soundtrack" needs to be there together with score and song
I don't care what you guys pump out with IGN, just keep these Top 10's coming. I feel like I should be paying for a masterclass course with each of these essays. I've learned so much from them. We should be thanking IGN for ensuring the future of this channel and these timeless studies of film.

Minor nit: "Head" is the Monkees...not the Monkeys. The spelling is done on purpose; a twist on "Beetles/Beatles".

To go off that, I’m also surprised you guys didn’t even mention American Psycho
shyguy23000001 If it had more songs on the film itself maybe could get a spot. Or more songs with a speech talking about their meanings
@@shyguy23000001 yes, they did remakes
Pedro Silva the main character talked about the songs constantly. It was the only thing that kept him sane.
Great list as always! Tommy should’ve gotten an honorable mention for the #3 slot in my opinion, but hey, this is a tough list as is. A few were bound to slip through the cracks.
So glad 8 mile is here
I've always loved the soundtrack to The Commitments. Dark End of the street and Mustang Sally, ah-mazing versions.
I played that soundtrack to death! Absolutely brilliant.
Could not believe The Commitments didn't 'win' let alone get a mention in the category of creating a band as an excuse for a great soundtrack. Usually these Top 10 cinefix things leave no stone unturned, and this episode was one of their best efforts - but seriously guys, no Commitments ?!?
What about Tommy for albums turning into movies? Certainly worth an honorable mention...
yeah, but they mentioned quadrophenia already
i'm truly thrilled that The Harder They Come made the list. good movie, great soundtrack
"if it's your bicycle, tek it nuh"
Woah. Just passing by Pulp Fiction like that is ballsy. That sound track defined my teen years
Thanks for giving the Monkees' "Head" at least a little love. Some of their best music is on that soundtrack. "Porpoise Song" and "Circle Sky" are phenomenal tracks.
Sing Street,Apocalypse Now and American Psycho
Sing Street was pleasantly awesome. I recommend it to everyone
So Thank You 🙌🏼🤜💥🤛
Speaking of Tom Hanks..."That Thing You Do!" should have been somewhere on this list!
Superfly? Come on now, Curtis deserved at least a mention.
Oh I hope academy award winner suicide squad gets number 1 (said nobody ever).
wack
No one likes you, dude.
Speak for yourself, that movie's soundtrack is dope.
Vicente Ortega Rubilar how that movie won a Oscar is beyond me.
Diego Salazar actually it’s wack
When I read the title, I guessed that Marie Antoinette and I’m Not There might make it in the list. So glad to be right ❤️
No Tron: Legacy? Daft Punk’s score is utterly phenomenal
Edit: Tim T is right, it was written specifically for the movie, so it doesn’t qualify for the list. My bad
It'a great, but it was written for the movie, so it doesn't qualify for this list.
Tim T missed that part of it, you’re right
It's okay, they briefly showed The Graduate and that soundtrack was also written for the movie (as was "Don't You Forget About Me" for Breakfast Club).
Please some do some top ten videos for:
1) Cameos
2) Comic Relief Characters
3) Fourth Wall Breaks
4) Franchises
5) Musicals
well we all know for cameos their is at least going to be one stan lee and at least one fourth wall break for deadpool
Definitely missing Moulin Rouge! and Once.
(500) Days Of Summer...that is all
I'm a simple person, i see Prince, i click! Amazing list as always.
Dang no mention of The Blues Brothers? That's like top 3 for me
Thank you so much for spotify link in description.
Love the reasoning behind the #1 pick!
Okay say what you want about the movies but the Twilight series has one of the best soundtracks
😩🙄🧐
Guys... wheres does "Fantasia" (1940) fits?
Fantasia is sort of unique. It's using animation to specifically interpret music. The original title was "The Concert Film".
Great Top 10, Thanks
A very influecial Sountrack was in my Opinion the
"Jugment Night" Soundtrack
It almost startet the Crossovecraze between Metal an Hip Hop alone and the Tracklist ist just amazing.
I nearly exclusively listen to film soundtracks and nothing to me could ever beat the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. It changed my life the first time I heard it when I was 11 and I feel the same way about it today
Was really hoping for a Love & Mercy mention. The scenes where they're recording Pet Sounds are wonderful.
I missed "The Commitments" commented
The music merge in the background is stunning.
I'm a bit disappointed that there was just a concentration on soundtracks who are used as background influencing. There are so many great soundtracks which help to tell the story. Most of the soundtracks shown here have little to none narratologic meaning except of building the world. Such a mist opportunity...
That’s a separate list.
Great list once again! One category I missed though that music is ALL ABOUT for me: making you emotional. Anger, sadness, melancholy, fear, love, empathy, passion, enthusiasm, hopelessness, understanding the emotion of the main character. Under these aspects there are certainly better overall picks but personally, the soundtrack of CLOUD ATLAS gets me every time
Hope Guardians of the Galaxy is in there!
Hats off cinefix for showing some respect to the movie Juice.
THIS.
Agreed !!
I missed Amazing Grace, but can agree with the list and your number 1. Nice job! Already waiting for the next top 10!
High Fidelity is probably my favourite soundtrack.
I'm trusting your opinion only because of your profile picture. Trout mask replica is the shit
Mean Streets (which I first saw at a drive-in when there still was such a thing in the '70's) was, for my money, the first time a soundtrack functioned as an absolutely pivotal character in film -- it demonstrates experientially how important the music is and should have been recognized here.
The description of that number 2 category made me expect The Commitments.
+1 for The Commitments. All thru this video I was wondering if it would show up.
The only time I've physically applauded at the end of a RUclips video. Well done.
With Forrest Gump as #1 I can agree with that. But there could be a second whole top 10 list of soundtracks that were omitted from this list.
i love drive, scott pilgrim, watchmen..glad you mention that
I fell crazily in love with The Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack. I love Magnolia as well. And 50 First Dates just collected favorite music of mine.
Edit: I also really love Pride and Prejudice and The Duchess, along with Sense and Sensibility (classical and beautiful)
Thanks for the Spotify lists!
Grosse Point Blank is an amazing Mixtape soundtrack.
#2 deserves an update for bohemian rhapsody. Absolutely love your channel tho! You all clearly care a lot, and also put in effort to make it about the art rather than just another "top 10" channel
I’m just happy baby driver got a mention since it’s so recent, but feels very Tarantino esque
Sofia Coppola chose the french group Air to write the score for The Virgin Suicides. It's one of the most hauntingly beautiful ever, and perfectly evokes the mystery of the girls and their deaths. Amazing.
not even a honorable mention to Spinal Tap??
Jesse Campos
No doubt.
Those songs were written for the movie.
Harry BuddhaPalm 8 Mile
There ya go.
Pretty in Pink! That soundtrack is life, happy to see it on the list
Lost Highway anyone?
random nerd
Perfect mix of score and soundtrack. It's a favorite of mine.
RRRRRRRRRRRRammstein!!!!!!!!
I hate that damn movie, but I looooove that soundtrack. It introduced me to Rammstein.
Harry BuddhaPalm
I really loved the movie when I saw it in the theater. It hasn't aged as well as Wild At Heart, or Mulholland Drive, imo, but that soundtrack is excellent. Could've added the Song to the Siren, but that's a small issue.
I listen to it on road trips, and it works as its own concept album for me.
NIN’s Perfect Drug is, well, the perfect drug.
Wait, no Dirty Dancing? a huge soundtrack staple of the 80s, also you're missing Grease and Saturday Night Fever. I would also add Slumdog Millionaire
Have you guys done a Musical movie list yet? I see you've done soundtracks, scores, and music moments, but not seeing a musicals one. Pls pls pls.
Magnolia was inspired by the music of Aimee Mann. I'm surprised it wasn't even mentioned.
Some other favorite movie soundtracks:
The original 1973 Wicker Man
Megamind
SLC Punk
A Clockwork Orange
Dazed and confused,
O brother; where art thou,
Dirty Dancing,
Roadhouse (RIP Jeff Healey & Patrick Swayze)
Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2,
Suicide Squad (terrible movie but great music)
Are all my favorite movie soundtracks.
Can't believe they didn't even mention Shrek
Or Megamind. Freaking Awsome soundtrack
man... I've never thought of Forest Gump because of its Soundtrack.. but now that you made me realize how cool it was and the progression over the Years of forest in the movie.. its clear to me how freaking amazing it is.
Reservoir Dogs has one helluva Soundtracj
as does every single tarantino film :)
Love this list and love seeing hip-hop represented finally! It is Rakim though not Rakeem
This is the video I’ve been waiting for
Oscars should have had a Best Soundtrack award instead of the shitty Best Popular Film award.
@Teal Appeal thank god!
Wayne Chapman
they should definitely be different categories, but "best arranged music" or "best soundtrack" needs to be there together with score and song
Markó Mihály Best Song and Best Score belongs at the soundtrack. But Arranged or Adapted Soundtrack deserved to be a category
@@JenniferBrigitteOpticalVortex that's exactly what I said
YES YES YES TO EVERY PICk you guys really knocked it out of the park
For a more recent pick, i would give a wee shout out to Sing Street.
I loved “The Commitments” !! The soundtrack is awesome !😎
