Did these values surprise you? If you work at amazon or any other FAANG company, what was your starting salary? Also, if you want to know a day in the life of an Amazon Program Manager let me know!
@@CapeNTiara I don’t have the info for another video, but I can say with confidence that an incoming L6 non tech Program Manager can be offered a $130K base pay with $100K in stocks at Amazon. I would love to do a video on that but I don’t have the physical offer letter. I was only shown it.
Hey this is super helpful! Definitely appreciate the video as I am also looking to onboard with Amazon in a Program Manager position as well. It's absolutely fantastic to have some actual numbers in front of me in order to compare when my offer comes in! Much appreciated!!!
No problem! Glad I could help! And the struggle is real, before I joined I wanted to know what non-tech FAANG employees make, but everything was software or computer science related.
Thanks! And in general an L5 will make 90K base and an L6 could expect more like 110K (although I've heard of some making 130K). It also depends on which type of PM as well. If you're technical then the pay scale is much different (110K L4, 130K L5, 150K L6). It does very by region though and experience, but that should get you a rough estimate. In general though, external hires will get a higher base pay than somone transfering roles internally or being promoted internally.
Hi Chris, thanks for all the information, if I may, I have another question, do we receive the same bonus if someone has been promoted from L3 to L4? And if they work at another site, do they also receive a bonus for relocating? These questions are very important for Amazonians who want to develop their careers within the company. Thank you for your attention.
Internal promos make ALOT less than an external coming in. Also, relo is dependent on where you’re going and coming from. The job posting will generally say if there is a relo bonus or not
It is lol. If you don’t perform to expectations you are put on a special project where you receive some coaching and if you don’t perform to expectations, you are let go. And WLB at Amazon as a PM can be a challenge. It largely depends on your manager. In my case I work 8-9 hour days but on my same team there are those who work 10-12 hours, unfortunately, I know more people who work 10-12 hours than 8-9. There’s a bit of pressure to put those hours in
@@Chris_jae Man, Thank you for your honest/ fast response. I know there are other RUclipsrs out there who works for Amazon but yet when I asked this question, they either denied it or just sugar-coated their answer completely. I really appreciate it. I know I said it before but I will say it again,, your Chanel is really a gem for people like me who look forward to moving to Seattle and who trying to crack into the tech industry.
@@LongTran-yf4hq no problem! I figure it gives more accurate expectations. When I went in I was told 40 hour weeks or less were normal, only to have that same person leave the company and tell me they worked more like 50 hours a week. Working at Amazon isn’t bad for a PM and is a great experience, but it is generally more work that what some people make it out to be. Of course it can also depend on the team
Hey Chris thanks for sharing this! Is this a non tech program manager offer letter? Also do you know how long it would take me to become a program manager if someone started an entry level position within the corporate operations at Amazon? Thanks!
Hey! This is actually a non-tech position. And if you’re in ops it can take as short as 6 months, but typically I’ve seen it happen in 1-2 years. It depends on your manager and if you let them know you want to become a PM
They are! Although you’ll likely need another offer on the table for some negotiating power. Although it also depends on your recruiter. I know some won’t budge
Tell me about it! It does increase a lot more with level and if you take on more technical roles. Sometime soon, I'll create a L4 Technical Program Manager video, which is more aligned with what most tech workers to get paid. (Right now I'm avoiding making videos with my current role's salary)
Wasn't my offer, but I got permission to use it and asked the legal team if I could upload first. I'm definitely not mature, but this video is protected by the NLRA statute.
Yeah, it’s wild. I moved to a product team quickly cause Program Management is about 1/2 the total salary. Product or TPM is much better for a similar workload
@@Chris_jae hey Chris, I’d like to schedule a call or message you in regards to how you transitioned into a product role if you don’t mind. I would enjoy a video about a day in the life of a PM

I am assuming it is harder to find out what is going on at the other PM levels. Like Senior PM, Principal PM etc. etc. Would love that info!

If you could make it a series and do a breakdown on an L5 and L6 that’ll be awesome
Thanks! And I would love too haha. I’ll just have to find someone that is an L5 or L6 and get their permission. But I know plenty of L5s I can ask 😁

Thank you for this video -- there is such a black hole re: non-tech roles at any FAANG including Amazon. SPOT ON with this video!

Can you mention how these sign on, stock etc are taxed? If you have a website where I can calculate monthly net, that would be great. Thanks!
They're taxed the same as regular salary. They're considered income so they'll be taxed at whatever the state and federal income tax rates are.
Chris how much is the pay raise from L5 to L6. Any idea. Great breakdown btw.

so if the basepay is 80 - 88k and the total compensation is 100-110 k . Does that mean that after the second year your pay will be 80 -88k?

Curious what this job entails and is it an entry level position or do you need previous experience?
In this case this is an entry level position, although I know some people with multiple years of experience who’ve came in at the L4 level
Do you know how different this is for the London office?
Unfortunately I don't. I'd imagine they would be paid more (higher cost of living) but i'd recommend checking online on Blind or Glassdoor
