Older biracial identify as black. Younger ones identify as both. Mariah Carey was one biracial who staunchly identified openly as both in the 90’s. Halle Berry however chose different. Everyone has their right to choose. When it comes to representation it gets TRICKY. Would biracial people be comfortable with a model that accepts them as "black" but de-prioritizes them completely in favor of what the dominant representation is? That is the question. Bi-racial people might make up less than 5% of the black community but are overrepresented in black imagery (and probably wealth). Whereas the most prevalent aspect of any community is what should be representative. Biracials for the most part are comfortable with a black identity that gives them utmost privilege within that identity.

I agree they are biracial nothing wrong with that. To say they have the full black experience isn’t true and they are in denial. Here's the issue: I have a friend who is biracial, who has always identified as Black. When she was born, 65 years ago, there were very few biracial people period, so it made sense to identify as Black. Also the "one drop" rule stated that no matter how white you looked, you were still subject to Jim Crow laws. Today there are a lot more biracial people around and that's why it's more of an issue today.
Race matters two ways: Socially and Culturally. So, what happens to a person who looks White, but was raised in a Black family/environment/culture? BTW, Halle Berry's mother told her daughter that the world will see her as Black, period end of story.

I think you are a great person and I want you to know Mixed or Lighter Skin are too are celebrated in the Black Community and are considered Fully Black. I think where the mis-trust comes in is where Bi-Racial and or Lighter Skin Black Folks have nasty arguments and the emotions are running high ( Lighter Skin or Mixed People) do just like White Folks do, especially against Darker Skin Black People calling them names like "UGLY, MONKEY, CRUSTY or have certain BIASES even in situations that are not calling for the very low blows/ hitting below the belt. Often times a hurt Bi-Racial or Lighter Skin person will take their anger out on a Darker Skin Black People and exclude themselves completely out of the Black Community , date nothing but other Lighter Skins, and or White Folks and that too is trauma but promote racism. It is well understood and I hope this Lighter Skin Superiority and Bi-Racial Acceptance on both sides can sides. Nowadays, you do not see this between women as much no matter what race because you all have come together, (but surprisingly you will see this between Gay Light Skin Men and Lighter Skin Bi/ Heterosexual Black Men in their preferences to have only Lighter Skin Black Men and Women and have these same biases.) You even hear the term "LIGHT SKIN ONLY " in Rap Songs. Claudia I am so happy that you are fully aware and stops it at the door when it approaches you especially in a fetish type way or even when people do the Light Skin vs. Dark-skin talk around you. -Kwaufi Nino

This is so unnecessarily complicated. Black is black; white is white; biracial is biracial; multiracial is multiracial. I understand that when President Barack Obama was born the ignorant one drop rule was still in effect. Biracial people had no other option than to check the black box. It did not matter how the individual looked physically.
The generation that you are a part of usually accepted being identified as black. When Tiger Woods said he was balasian ( black + Asian ) it was the black community that were offended. Tiger has an Asian parent that raised him and he wanted to recognize his mother. Yet, he was criticized for not wanting to be black!
I remember thinking how ridiculous and unfair that was for Tiger. The man never once denied being part black.
Meghan Markle was raised by her lovely black mother and always said she is biracial. Yet once agian criticized for wanting to pass as white. How dare she fall inlove with a white man. Even though her father is white and she is 50% white. I saw the prejudice being directed at her from white and black people. It is shameful.
That is why I told my 20 year child to never let other people tell him who he is. He is loved by both of his parents and is blessed to be biracial. He owes no one an explanation.
I understand why you say you are a black woman. But the reality is you are not. I am a black woman with two black parents. If you can be a black woman birthed from a white woman than what am I ? Our experiences are going to be different.
Biracial women may feel racism from white society. But as a dark skin woman I am replaced by biracial women in the colorist black community. Your image is elevated and how is that fair?🤔
It is time biracial people proudly embrace their true identity. It does not take away their love for blackness.
DNA is factual and this one drop rule is OVER.

@@cecegiles7286 she grew up around her whyte mother and played with whyte kids. Now she plays on the fact that she has a few bl.ack family members but she grew up in a whyte household. It doesn't make sense for her to even refer to herself as bl. Ack when she's clearly just biracial

I think I agree with the census that you are what your mother is. For example. Barack Obama was raised culturally white because his mother is white. He didn't connect to his Blackness until college. The Mowry twins mother is black. They grew up in black culture they are culturally black.
