Thanks for letting us take a look at this stove. You weren't expecting a $700 stove so any of the issues you can deal with and if it works for you that is great. Biggest thing is just getting out there with it so enjoy.
@@wattzzdevelopment3404 awesome let me know what you think. Did a couple other videos where I used the stove out camping, check them out. Oh and don't forget to subscribe! 🙂
I bought one of these and yes that pan does warp nicely and it will warp again even if you get it flat again. What you did not show was the ventilation on the back of the stove and that is what I covered up to get less air in and a slightly longer burn time. hmmmn just editing this as that back vent is explained but mine is still covered . The ash tray moving in and out now provides all the air required. I also pop riveted aluminum to the sides of the ashtray to get a snugger fit to regulate air intake, and ordered the damper as it looks far better than anything I could fabricate. . I also chopped 2" off the legs for less height and to get them to fold neatly . On the latest burn 1/2 load burnt for about 50 minutes and I put my unburnt hand under the stove to feel the heat out put and removed my singed fingers . So away with the 6" legs ( 4" after I chopped them down and before I did the finger singe ) and I will replace them with 1-1/2" aluminum angle and yes those allen bolts are sort of good and sort of not tight? Snugged them up and two always got loose real quick . As I am using this in my Sienna van I had to get the 90° elbows as well. The allen bolts are the same size as the V-brake bolts on a bicycle . I am using a reflector behind the stove as there is less chance of melting the door panel and of course a reflector under the stove as that will prevent the carpet burning. Next burn will be a full load to see how much time I can depend on. Quite impressed with how well built this stove is. Good review , good warmth to you
Hi Bruce, thanks for the comment. I really appreciate the insight on the rear vent and shortening the legs. Using it in the Tent I think I will keep the legs full height. However we do intend on also using the stove in our Small bus conversion as well. I am also impressed with the little Stove. def a good find! Thanks again for your insight and for watching the channel. Cheers!
Thanks Justin! It took some doing but I managed to get them separated and nested back in the stove. I ran a die grinder over the inside of the pipes, and it seems to have loosened them up slightly. Weather turned to rain today so putting off the overnight camp for now. Watch for full test vid of stove and tent coming soon though. Happy holidays!
Looks pretty good. Window is a nice feature. I'm interested how many hours you will get out of it fully loaded up. I'm sure if you knew anyone that can weld you could reinforce the wood tray with a couple pieces of metal. Pipe sitch maybe pull harder! Put your pipes into the pipes! Keep us posted on the night out with it. Good video J
Thanks Tyler, I managed to get the pipes apart and ran a Dremel tool to smooth out the inside. Hopefully it will ease the disassembly next time. Appreciate your watching!
Awesome, good luck with the stove! Check out my night 2 video with the Gonex tent. I make a few pipe changes and modifications to the stove. Thanks for watching Cheers!
I have the same stove, no damper, no vent for front door, does have an internal type vent. And my tray also warped from the heat like yours, I'll have to cut slips in the corners to straightened the tray out. Overall good tent stove.
Great to hear you like it. I was thinking of adding a damper in the pipe to help hold the heat in, as well. Weather turned rainy here in Ontario this week and I have yet to try it in the new Gonex hot tent, hopefully this weekend. Cheers!
Nice! It's great to be able to get out and enjoy the winter using these inexpensive stoves and tents!. Love this little stove! Glad you liked the video. Subscribe for more like this! Cheers!
That's awesome. It's a great little stove especially on a budget! Looking forward to using it again this fall/winter. Thanks for checking out the vid. Cheers
You're the only one on RUclips that has done and uploaded any videos for this stove. It's kind hard to judge from only a few videos from just one person and area. I wish i could find more.
Hey there, I do have a couple of videos using this stove if you haven't seen them as of yet. I'll be doing a few more videos this fall/winter using this setup. Wouldn't hurt to subscribe if you haven't already.😁 Nights are starting to feel like fall here in Ontario already. Stay tuned for more. We just picked up an Esker Classic 10x10 with a Knico stove as well so we will have lots of winter content conming! Cheers. I hope the videos are helping you out.
It is an awesome little stove, and I am with you, it would be good in a 10x10 bell, it is worth the buy, I can't wait to get it out in the snow and weather.
Haha, well good points! I really didn't have high expectations at this price point so with that being said it did burn well, seems pretty solid, and having that glass in the door is pretty sweet. Overall for the $$ I was pretty impressed. I will be following with another vid once we get out in the tent with it. Cheers!
From an engineering standpoint here are the faults of our stoves. #1 no chimney damper, #2 no regulated intake, (remember, with no regulated air, in or out, the bell curve of the btu output is the maximum it can be), (it needs to be reduced by 75%), #3 no baffle above the reburn halo, #4 ash tray, door, and all seams need to be caulked, (remember, it is spot welded not seam welded), #5 deburr all chimney stack pipes, # 6 purchase an infrared laser temperature pointer, #7 secure the bottom of the legs with a piece of plate aluminium, (then you will two points of contact for the legs). Good luck.
Hi Thomas, thanks for the input. That is quite the comprehensive list! I have since added a chimney pipe damper I purchased off amazon and it seem to slow down the burn slightly. (see later video) While it's not perfect, I am pretty happy with it for my small shelter. It was a great price, compared to many stoves on the market. After 5 trips with it, aside from the inner tray warping and pipes sticking together it is holding up well. It's now on the shelf until next fall when I will pull it out for more adventures.. Appreciate the comments and watching the channel. Cheers!
Awesome! Enjoy the stove. I have a few more tips and tricks for the stove in my other budget amazon tent reviews. Check them out! Thanks for checking out the video! Cheers!
Hey there, after 8-10 burns in this stove now, I am still quite happy with it. It is small and wood needs to be processed a little further than our Knico trekker for our bigger tent. However with a small shelter, (I have been using Gonex solo tipi tent) it has worked very well for warmth and for cooking. I have a couple videos on the stove and tent you can check out. Best of luck, and hope you enjoy the upcoming cold season! Cheers
@@starkravingmadadventures6038 saw one or two of videos. I have a titanium one for camping but thought this might be good option for cheap stove in shed or hunting blind
I got a stove just like that on Wayfair for $95 and tax. They are now $89. I am anxious to try mine this week. Thanks for the tips. Can you put fire brick in the bottom of it?
Thats great! Not sure on the fire brick, it is a pretty small stove. We have placed some med large rocks near the side and back on the ground that act as heatsinks and will radiate heat as well. I have been quite happy with this little stove! Almost that time of year again! Enjoy the season. Cheers
@starkravingmadadventures6038 Thanks! And that's a great idea with the rocks! Flat sandstone is fairly easy to find where I am. You have a great season, too. I enjoyed the video while I ate a late night supper cooked on a camp stove.
The warped tray should have a cross brace on the bottom side to prevent the warp. Also, the pipes may come apart easier if you use a little silicon grease in the beginning. Just wet them and give it a try.
Thanks, I was thinking that with the tray as well. It still fits in the stove as it is, so time will tell. I used a dremel on the inside of the pipes hoping that will cure the stick.
You get what you pay for. Would hate to be out in the woods and find a big malfunction with this stove. But hey, time will tell. Personally, I went with a Winnerwel Nomad and the Luxe 3W view. Certainly more money but they are great.
I def agree with that the get what you pay for. Esp with Outdoor gear. So far though the stove has been good. I have used it 5 times including this first burn and it has worked pretty well. I did add a damper pipe section and experimented with an 45degree elbow as well. There are a couple of other videos I did on this. Thanks for checking out the channel. Cheers!
Good Idea! The legs have not really been too much of an issue so far, but none the less probably a good idea to add a drop on each. Thanks for checking out the video / Channel!
Thats a great deal!. I am almost finished another video of our 2nd night out with the stove and tent. Overall pretty happy with the stove and tent, made a few modifications. Keep an eye for the video. Will be out later this week. Thanks for watching and good luck with the stove setup! Cheers!
Hey there, I could get about 1.5hrs-2hrsout of it, with med size hardwood. Adding the damper helped slow the burn and kept the coals for longer. Hope this helps . Thanks for watching!
Hi Nicholas, First night in the tent didn't happen as quickly as we had hoped! We finally got out overnight and I am almost finished the video of the Tent and Stove review. It should be posted this week. Thanks for checking out the channel and appreciate the Sub!
Hi, we have only had the 1 overnight in it so far. This was the tent review vid you also commented on. We have been busy! We did spend 3 days winter camping in our larger 16' Bell tent recently. Hoping to get back out with this portable setup as early as this weekend. I will have a follow up video on the next trip and report on how the new stove pipes worked. Keep your eyes open for it. Thanks for checking out the channel!
Indians used Wikiups, Wigwams, & TeePee's long before we had metal stoves.. The question is - How did they heat them ??? We need to deisgn a tent to copy old school technics, so we can carry less.. A drawback w/ a stove is it doesn't heat the floor unless you have a fan to spread the heat... A fire in the ground heats the ground all around !
True, lots of timeless designs. I will say though having an enclosed firebox with a chimney is nice as there are no sparks and no smoke in your shelter. Def something to be said about the old open top shelters though. Cheers
Hey lapicker, although the actual stove jack is not included, having the opening with velcro flap sets its apart from a regular tent. It has provisions for a stove jack where a reg tent does not. See what I am saying?
I almost forgot about my review. Did the initial review was good legs are a little wobbly. But there's a workaround that. It does consume ALLOT of wood for a little stove. On occasion, it would shoot out the fire out the top of the for idk if the tube has to be higher. Also some sparks come out in thinking I could put some sort of wire mesh. it doesn't come with a damper but again there's a work around that too. Since it's my first stove I have nothing to compare it to so I'm more than happy with it. Will be taking out on a camping trip on March 3 with the added items I mention. For my tent I made a baker style tent out of survival blankets I had. Let's see how that will keep the heat in since I'll be in snowy conditions
