"Young men of your country, not much more than boys, gave away all of their tomorrow's for your today. So for those of us that have survived, we should make it a world that was worth dying for." - British veteran of Normandy, June 6, 1944

Thank you Katherine, you made me think of my two uncles, both killed while in the RAF during WW11. One was the navigator on a Blenheim, the other a pilot of a Lancaster. Also my father who was a gunner on a B 17.

For every time a people cheer to go to war, this should be played as a reminder that all that is left, in the end, is the horror of loss for lives that should have been lived and love that never should have ended. So many souls sacrificed for things that, in the end, were pointlessly defended. Someone always starts these things and the rest of us have to finish them. Ten years later, we cannot tell the difference. A life is a life, friend or enemy.

As a vet 5 times over, I am so proud of the way the vets are treated today. I remember that when I got out in 1970, all I wanted was a college degree, and an exit visa from this country. The viet vet was looked down on , and treated like a leper. Even the memorial wall was done in black, like they were ashamed to have to acknowledge we even existed. All other memorials were in white. We as a nation have always paid tribute to the fallen, and the missing. It is a shame our government isn't as honorable about where they place our service personnel in harms way, nor for the right reasons.

always been a fan of the movie, the music, and the whole message of the destruction, heartache & carnage of war, yet sometimes WWII for example the upmost need for it at times in our history. we must always try to prevent and avoid war amongst ourselves when we're so much more capable of Good and Virtue, but we must never forget that sometimes the cost of Freedom in our world is at a great price. anyways, i loved this version as well and admired the original vision of the owner! 2 thumbs way up!

    Hey taff772,
Good to know there are a few good men in all nations! Katherine is also sacrificing, and I truly believe as her father looks down on her he is less proud of her fame, fortune, and talent, than he is of her character! I wish I had been at her Margom Park concert to see her lift her full-length gown and show off her pink - rhinstoned "Wellies" (farm boots) to the happy crowd! How many "divas" would think of, or do such a thing? You are lucky just living in the same great Wales!

A soldier is a soldier. He is sent miles from home often by force. He fights for his country regardless of the right or wrong, but for his own survival. My grandfather was a soldier of the Wehrmacht. He served from Poland all the way to the Battle of the Bugle where he suffered a shoulder wound and was captured by the US. He won the Iron Cross for his actions in France. His brother, who had immigrated to America, also served in WWII but as a corpman on Iwo, Okinawa, Makin, and Saipan.

For those not from the UK, this was from BBC Songs of Praise, which is a weekly Sunday Christian show. Kathryn Jenkins is standing in the ruins of Coventry's Medieval cathedral. It was destroyed in a massive raid by the Luftwaffe during the Blitz in 1940. Approximately 568 were killed in the city during one night. The WWII veterans are standing in the new cathedral, that was built alongside the old cathedral after the war. The cross in the remains of the cathedral is a replica of a cross of burnt timbers found in the rubble the following morning. (I think the original might be in the new cathedral) Below the cross is the words FATHER FORGIVE.
