Maddy Prior dancing on the piano when I saw them open for Jethro Tull remains one of the highlights of my concert compendium.

I use this song to interest (some) students to history. The song is from ~1720s, and opens up a whole history. Well played by SS!!

Beautiful. This song I learned myself when I was a chorister, as a kid. This is a perfect rendition of Steeleye Span's excellent version.
A trip down Memory Lane and STILL most impressive!

Great stuff - as a fan of S.S. since he mid 70's.
I briefly met Rick and Maddy in the mid 90's when we were part of a performance benefit concert at the Albert Hall. More of a moment for me, rather than them, I'm thinking..

I have never seen them live. I am so glad this was posted on YT! In the '70s Steeleye Span received a good amount of airplay in the NYC area. So I knew who they were. I love that there is available footage of their performances! Great dancing!!!

It was great to watch this video. Unfortunately for whatever reason Steeleye Span has always performed this song live at a faster tempo than the album version and neglect to include the gritty lead guitar strums. The album version has a real dark feeling to it. By all means this is a good watch, but to hear the best you need to hear the album version.

Seeing Maddy Prior dance across the stage brings back great memories of catching their live performances. I have seen Steeleye perform this at almost all concerts I have went to. A great all time classic Scottish ballad. Great and sad to see Tim Hart in his Steeleye prime. A must see is Tim Hart's final performances with Maddy at Cecil Sharp House in October 2008 while Tim was seriously ill.
