  • This is one of a series of videos on cell biology. This video will introduce compound light microscopes, their parts, and how to properly use them. Some of the parts I will describe include different objective lenses, the diaphragm, eyepiece, and stage.

    What is the tube that the eyepiece is on called? It's not mentioned in the video.

      @SiouxScience  7 лет назад +6

      I've always called it the body tube. I tried to outline the things that people need to touch and manipulate - sorry to have left it out!

    Hello quick question is it the coarse adjustment or course adjustment? thanks

    • @SiouxScience
      @SiouxScience  3 года назад +1

      Coarse, as in rough. Not detailed or precise. If I had a typo in there my apologies!

    Thank you so much! I have a test on how to use a microscope and I'm very nervous. I haven't had very much success with microscopes in the past but this has definitely helped.

    When using light microscopy, do you start from the largest or the smallest distance (between the lens and? The specimen)? Why

    • @kandiruffner2193
      @kandiruffner2193 4 года назад +1

      Largest distance from between the lens and specimen. This would mean that you are using the lowest powered lens, and this would allow you to center the specimen. Once the specimen is centered, than one can change to a different lens, to get a closer look.

    • @SiouxScience

      You bet. You can then use the diaphragm to change the amount of light you end up with.
