Montrose was the first concert I ever attended. They played with Foghat and Black Oak Arkansas in 77. It was a great concert. I used to crank Pat Travers "Puttin it Straight" on my Craig powerplay system with a 300 watt Craig amp in my 73 Mustang. You could hear me coming from a mile away. It's a wonder that I can still hear. Two legends of ROCK!
Montrose was my first as well. Opened for Golden Earring. Most of the audience was there to see Montrose because when they left the stage, most of the audience left with them.
They were the American Led Zeppelin. Plant&Page Ronnie&Sammy. First album = to Zep's #1, who else could make that claim. Bill Graham himself said if they had stayed together...biggest band in the world? Oh well too much for one stage I guess. Strange thing I saw Sammy open teh show at Winterland in '75 he debuted his solo act with the new Montrose headlining, He played "Red" hot hot hot.
Even though Sammy wrote this, Ronnie definitely helped his guitar playing. The first Montrose album is a classic and I have the vinyl in a safe !!!! Travers rocked on this and R.I.P. Ronnie you'll never be forgotten.
I was at this show in St. Louie which was fantastic!!! The bald guy who I am seeing comments regarding is the incredible Ronnie Montrose. RIP Ronnie. It's a sad day...

Saw Montrose years in OKC when they were out promoting the 1st album. Had no idea who they were...they were on the bill with Foghat and J- Geils. They were first up and after they were finished we just looked at each other and said, "WOW!" They blew the other 2 bands away. We went out the next day and bought the Montrose album. Saw both Pat Travers and Ronnie Montrose in Albany NY in the late 70's percorming in separate shows. Ronnie's band was wedged in between opener Van Halen and headliner Journey at the famous Palace Theatre in March 1978, then Pat Travers played a relatively small movie auditorium called The Madison Theater in Octobe with Richard T Bear warming up. In December 1979 Gamma played Allen's Pub in nearby Scotia and we had a table upstairs overlooking the band from 30 feet away and had a terribly cute waitress serving our drinks all night. 3 great shows like we'll never see again for a total ticket cost of under $25 for all 3 shows.
Great performance!!! Nothing like two AWESOME guitar players coming together to perform a classic song like this. And what a great job they did😁. If anyone knows the names of, the vocalist & bassist & the drummer. I would love to know what are. A great video worth watching a few more times, you know 😊. ❤❤🖒🖒🖒
Great to see this. I saw montrose 2 times 1979 and 81. Saw gamma, but can't remember the year , in between 79 and 82. I know gamma opened for BLUE OYSTER CULT. LONG BEACH ARENA.
Pat & his band are still rocking the socks off -in fact, his slide work has progressed quite nicely. Saw an interview shortly after Ronnie's passing & Pat was quite affected. Long live Ronnie Montrose & hope to see the mighty Pat Travers Band real soon ......
You may enjoy Pat Travers Band from 1976 with Pat, Mars Cowling, and Nicko McBrain (now with Iron Maiden) on drums. Start the video at about twenty-five minutes into this concert where Pat just changed from a Telecaster to his trademark Gibson Melody Maker, he tunes up a bit, and BAM he breaks into a great slide performance on "You Don't Love Me"... enjoy
I saw Montrose in 1974 with Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie. Humble Pie was the Headliner and that's who I was there to see. Never heard of Montrose before but when they came on stage for the last set they tore the Baltimore (Maryland) Civic Center away. I became a fan right there and then. Two of the best playing together! Ronnie Montrose and Pat Travers. Pat Travers is doing a show at the Bodega Cafe(Hayfork, CA) on December with "Cold Sweat" opening for him and the band. That's what I read, anyway. The Bodega Cafe is bringing some great acts to the area. This Friday 13, 2015 we';re(Looney Tunes) opening for Led Zepplica, so come out if you're in the area.
Pat T has got to see this. thanks for posting. 2 of my all time faves on the same stage playing one of my fav songs. wish i could have been at this show. peace out and Rock On!!!!
Sorry for the Sammy fans, The Sammy Hagar's Live LP was basically the remnants Ronnie's Band. Ronnie was the guitarist on Edgar Winter's 'They Only Come Out At Night" LP. too. Traver's LP "Bazooka" with Carmine Appice is also a nice listen.

I wonder how many people in the audience know what a treat this is that they witnessed that day.
i did. i was there. it was amazeballs.
All of them. These two are the reigning kings of full tilt boogie. Period.
rafjr64 considering that it happened in St Louis, I'd say all of them. Montrose and Pat Travers are on regular rotation on St Louis radio.
