- Hi aviators 🛩️,
Past tuesday 19/07/2022, the Condor flight DE1439 / CFG2EC operated with a Boeing 757 - 300 with registration D-ABOA taked off from Lanzarote to Hamburg, but shortly began the problems. The plane suffered a series of explosions in their left engine due unknow causes and it was switched off.
As soon as the tripulation recovered the plane control, they started a right turn with a large amplitude for finally to land in the Lanzarote Airport again but in this case with only one engine.
We have decided to do this compilation with the entire scene (take off and landing) with the incredible sound of the explosion because without doubt the pilots skills were essential to obtain the best result. Congratulations and a great applause 👏 for the entire tripulation 👩✈️ !
We would like to know your opinion about it, please leave your comment and enjoy it !

Compressor stall not engine explosion. When it happens it's like a car back firing and sounds/looks similar but on a larger scale. Still not great but it's not an explosion. The compressor stall will usually result in loss of thrust or engine surge. Good job performed by the flight crew.
Why was there flames then?
A backfire is an explosion! Combustion outside the combustion chamber
Invariably Compressor stall will result in pulsing flames leaving the Engine until its fully shut down .
Thank your for correcting this for us none pilots/engineers. The extensive training pays off!
Compressor stall at high power ? Very unlikely
So much respect for the pilot’s skills and training in situations like these 🙏🏻
Nah, it is easy. The problem would have been if the aircraft had 2 engine failures
@@pilotoexperto Couldn't just let him admire them for being good at their job lmao.
@@braindamage5652 lol
So happy to see such a positive result! Fantastic job to the pilots, ATC, and crew.
it’s great to know the plane performed great on one engine and landed nice and smooth, top job from the crew 👍
Indeed. No reason why it shouldn’t have; I believe this aircraft is ETOPS rated. Flying on one engine during an emergency shouldn’t be an issue at all - the flight crews train exhaustively for this possible occurrence.
It's designed to operate just fine on one engine.
Respect 👍🏻... Perfect example of "no matter what happens, FLY the plane".... Well done all
The Engine DID NOT EXPLODE!!! it experienced a Compressor Stall and Surge this is something that happens on Gas Turbines (Jet Engines) from time to time for a number of reasons and the Engines are designed to contain any failure within the cowlings for safety reasons I worked for Condor many years ago and I know as a Company they were very professional there engineers are all very well trained as are there flight deck crews so well done to all I am sure with the location they were able to get an engine out to the island and would of replaced it WELL DONE CONDOR!!!
Birdstrike?
@@MrTimodon A bird strike can cause a compressor stall.
... their engineers ...
... their flight deck crews ...
... would have ...
And try using some punctuation! How does someone with such poor language skills get to work for Condor?
You are correct, it sounded like a compressor stall
@@MrTimodon yes... I'd be 90% certain that's what happened here.
Hats off to the captain, crew and the passengers!
God Bless the capable Pilot for skillfully landing the Jet!
Pilots
If a god had anything to do with it, it would have blessed the pilot before the take off.
Wow just wow! I have been watching you for almost a year (from time to time) and everything has always been fine, not a single aviation incident. Here, one happened. It's great and that everything ended well and no one was hurt. Bravo to the pilots and ATC!
No hubiese querido estar en ese avion . Gran susto se pegaron los pasajeros y tripulantes , gracias a Dios que vokvieron .
Safe landing. Good job to the pilot
Congratulations to the flight crew for bringing the wounded bird home safely!👍🏻🍺😎
That dog was trying to tell them the engine was bad
We were poolside in Guime, which is minutes from the airport and we heard the bang and flames coming from the left engine!
Not something you want to see a few days before leaving the island.
Good to see the plane land safely soon after 👏
Guys... Calm down... It was not an 'explosion'. No one was ever in danger here. It was just a compressor stall and ensuing engine surge. It looks and sounds spectacular, and yes, the affected engine needs to be shut down, if it doesn't stop. But flying on one engine - especially engine failures on takeoff - are part of every training syllabus. The pilots have done their job as professionally as expected, and brought the plane back for the engine to be inspected and/or repaired. Could have been caused by birdstrike, could have been caused by other things. Nothing to worry too much about :)
EDIT: But nice catch on cam anyway! Must have been surging almost directly overhead the camera position...
very easy to say from a seat in front of your PC. Not so easy sitting by the window in the 'plane shitting yourself...
A tough and excellent landing.
He didn't land on one engine...he landed on his tires.
Bwahahahahahaha…….nice one 😃👍🏾
@@datathunderstorm Sounds funny here - but in May 2020 the pilots of a PIA Airbus landed indeed on their engines and killed themselves and 96 other people.
Its all in the training, training & more training. Outstanding job!
Very professional job by well trained pilots. I am sure this was quite scary for the passengers 😬
Great job by crew. Secured engine after stall. Landing wings level, no yaw, right down centerline.
Been a while since i watched this channel. You get a sense of how far the camera is from the action with the delay here
This is a great why to learn about the engine for a future aeronautical engineering student
*Omg,how dramatic you don’t ever see such an event often* what luck you were filming 🙏🏻🥺👏🏻🙌
This is a permanent live stream I believe
24/7 stream
@Mike Barker Yep, I’ve even watched it at night time too when it was coming up as recommended
I am aircraft Technician. Great video
Thanks for sharing ✈️
757-300 big, beautiful bird 🦅
Compressor stall which causes explosive pressure waves from the engine (rather than the engine parts “exploding” apart).
One cause could be a bird or foreign object strike, but that is not the only option. These can occur at high power:low altitude or high altitude during power changes.
Stuck bleed valves
@Smithy18 yes, so many options. Old days fuel pump, bleed valves. Ect. Always fun to figure it out that’s the aviation brains in us all
Well done, pilots! Thank you and God!
Thanks be to God that the pilot was able to land the plane safely. I've been on that runway many times, thank you for sharing this. Blessings ever from Belfast.
They are trained for it. As long as one engine is working everytthing is fine.
@Stephen Ross: It was God that let the engine explode. Thank the pilot for the safe landing.
"God" has nothing to do with it. Pilot training, procedures, and skill returned the aeroplane to the runway.
Oh, Stephen, stop it, please. Do you also give thanks to your omnipotent invisible friend when a plane goes down, killing everyone on board? If not, why not? Surely He's just moving in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform?
Bah! Sounds like a pretty negligent, incompetent, omnipotent deity to me.
Just like your God, this plane was made by humans. Designed by them, built by them, maintained, operated and flown by them. It was also saved by them.
It doesn't always end as well as this because we're all only human, but in this case it was training and skill that saved lives, not Tinkerbell's magic wand.
@@saintuk70 You took my words out of my keyboard😀. You're totally right. Aviation is purely science, skill, training and has nothing to do with the non existent divinity.
Great to see plane can maintain altitude and land on one engine. Scary but excellent work.
I've experienced some dodgy landings, never a failure during or after take-off. I'm sure there was a massive difference in nerves between cockpit and cabin - but shows training, procedures, and skill brought the aeroplane safely back to Arrecife. Even with one engine the landing didn't look any heavier than a Ryanair landing :)
Exactly like a Ryanair landing, I know!!
Yeah, great job crew!
OMG!! That explosion sounded like an AK47. Thank god everyone returned to the airport unharmed. Great professionalism from the pilots!!
Which one was it - god or the well trained pilot?
Congratulations for the tripulation. 🙂👌👏👏👏👏👏
An uncontained failure is an explosion. A Compressor stall is a contained failure still an explosion. ✈️🤜🤛💯
That 757 with the Rolls Royce powerplants is so over-powered even a 300 variant has no problems whatsoever flying efficiently on one engine. It's an engineering marvel that aircraft and one Boeing really should think about upgrading to a 800-900 variant like their 737's. Brilliant return by the Condor pilots with a full payload. I've seen harder landings with a non-crippled aircraft.
p.s. I unsubbed last year when the cameras were denied access as I thought it was never going to return. Glad to see you're back on. Resubbed.
Yes, the best Boeing aircraft ever designed / manufactured. Love every chance to see a 757 these days
@@markar6395 the 757, the first plane I remember flying in when I was 10 years old which sparked my love of aviation, I was in a fully loaded Britannia airways plane from BHX to Ibiza and the performance was insane, as others have said, totally overpowered, but she was also so pretty. Although I'm gay, she was a 6ft4 female supermodel/ or another interpretation as an olympic class endurance runner, slim, tall and can go for miles! As others have said, those pops are caused by compresor stall/surge; could have been caused by literally anything
Those RB211-524s are very much over powered. We could taxy a 747-400 with just the one on with full fuel and pax
Ryan Air and EasyJet pilots watching jealously...... they could learn a thing or two here.....
@@peanuts2105 You're half right half wrong. The 747 has the beefed up version of the rb211, which is yes, the -524. But the 757 uses the detuned version of the rb211, the -535, which pushes "only" 42,000 pounds instead of 55,000.
That’s why there are two engines. 😀
The pilots did a great job.
Wow, glad to hear that the plane landed alright. Must have been frightening to takeoff and hear the engine on the plane you’re on explode. Well done to the pilots!
Engine didn't exploded, it's compressor stall.
@@andy1536 Not frightening then.
@@Smufter69 Yes, there's nothing to frighten. I love to fly airplanes and this happened to me twice. Once the plane also had to turn back, and the second time the pilots managed the situation in the air.
Well, I'd be shitting myself.
Wonderful to see training and brains come together. We'll done.
Superbly handled,very good crew
Scared I am sure ,but focused.
Even the dog barking in the background has very good hearing
Great job by the crew. This sounded like some machine gun kinda. Wonder what the reactions were on the live chat, couldnt be there at that moment, but i did saw it on FR24.
Excellent job
Recognise a compressor stall am not a pilot but have watched enough youtube videos explaining what happens when a compressor stalls explained by Mentour Pilot and Captain Joe to know that was a compressor stall. Excellent work by the pilots there skills and training rely show big pat on the back to both pilots to the Captain and First Officer
Indeed.
Great pilot
Good Job Well Done 👍
Surprised not to see the emergency services waiting at the end of the runway as a precaution in case of unknown damage to aircraft
If there was bird ingestion then they might have, but a compressor stall isn't a major emergency especially as there was no engine fire. I do see your point though, I think a larger airport would have put fire services closer to the plane, It's a small airport anyway, any issues and the Fire services could quickly reach the plane anyway with there being only one terminal.
great flying by the pilots
Great job on that landing.👍👍
The second I heard that noise I was like "Oh compressor stall!" Once you hear or experience one and have it explained to you, you will never forget it, it is unmistakable for pretty much anything else.... Unless he ran into a flock of evenly spaced and timed birds, which he definitely did not lol.
Lol, emergency was waiting in the parking lot? Good thing they weren't needed on the runway, holy sh*t.
Sounds like me on the drums but not quite as terrifying. Nice job Condor pilots for bringing the plane around for a safe landing.
That's called , one a wing engine and a payer. Thanks for the share...give the Captain Vacation 💙
If you didn't hear the bang of the engine stalling, you would never know anything was amiss.
I've watched the Lanzarote web cam a few times and that bloody dog never stops barking 😂
Me too🤣
Well done that crew!
I´ve seen parts of this video on Aviation Herald. Thank you very much!👍
Congrats to the pilots!
One engine landings one would think are part of a commercial pilot’s ongoing training as the actual landing looks perfectly normal.
Very good job !!
Great job guys
The crew did a great job!Congratulations!
What you don't see on the video is the hill on the climb out path from RW03 in Lanzerote which necessitates a special engine out procedure to be carried out by the crew in the event of an engine failure or loss of thrust as in this case. Crew certainly earned their pay on this one, well done !
Audible compressor stall. May be caused by bird strike. The explosions are caused burning unburned fuel just outside the engine. This is what makes it so loud. Pilots well done, the have been trained for it. However, to keep calm in the real situation is a little bit different. They did stop the ill engine immedately but waited for leveling out, clear speed and increased power of the right engine. Trying to imagine how the passengers felt after this machine gun.
I’m just a curious viewer here with a question. If this happens during a flight will the passengers onboard hear this loud continuous bursts? If so it must be jarring and quite scary for your average passengers especially during takeoffs.
@@JeanClaudeCOCO yes you will hear it. Aircraft are designed to still be able to take off and climb at maximum take off weight with one engine.
If aircraft was rolling down the runway and It doesn't reach takeoff speed when this occurs, pilot will abort takeoff.
@@HuckThis1971 great information. Thanks
Awesome catch ! Do you mind if I use this clip in one of my videos ? Of course, link back to your original video will be provided in description.

Geezz, that was loud! At 1st, I thought it was that barking sound at 0:20. Thank u!

Wow think I would have papped me.pants if I'd have been on that flight, well done to all involved in the safe landing of the aircraft.👍👍
I'm glad they are ok
Not seeing any firefighting trucks, ambulances and security véhicules racing to the plane makes wonder if the story is 100% true.
Man nothing has a more baller takeoff than the 757 pencil
Awesome capture! Would you mind if I featured this view in one of my upcoming episodes?

Thanks a lot!
This surge happened fairly late and considering the deck angle during initial climb it was climbing well. The crew handled it with cool professional ability!
Nice approach and touchdown too!👍

I was trimming a J57-21W on a KC-135 Tanker laying on my back under #2 Engine when it had a compressor stall. Aged 10 years 😱😳😳. Wouldn’t want to experience it again.
Excellent video! 👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻 Maybe a bird ingestion… 🛫🦆🤔
If you noticed the very short ground roll on takeoff, this must have been a very light aircraft. Also, the pitch angle on the initial climb seemed very steep which may have effect air flow through the engine hence the compressor stall. Strictly Monday morning quarterbacking but seems likely to me.
No. Airflow wouldn’t effect how an engine takes in air. Their giant vacuums. They’ll find air. Compressor stall or bird ingestion
@@SAMann729 Ah sorry but as a retired airline pilot with 35 years flying heavy jets.....you are wrong. It's called a Compressor Stall and that was the noise heard in the video.
The 757 is well known for their RR engines and that they´re going like rockets.
@@NicolaW72 FYI some airlines order the 757 with GE engines. Somewhat less performance than the RR. I flew the RR and that 757 was a sports car!
@@mikefendel Indeed.

We should mention coming in on one engine while coming in heavy..........
It's not an explosion, it's a compressor stall

I would have passed out I guess. In January 22 there was also a compressor stall of a Condor flight from Arrecife ro Hamburg....
isnt it kinda wired that this happend just a few months before? Same airport, same aircraft-type, same arline.
Wow! 😳
nice catch
Thanks
Must’ve been scary inside the cabin
When I heard that "compressor stall" was also the first that Camembert to my mind and after landing Nottingham was messing from the engineering cowlings as far as I could see...they probably just shut the faulty one down and turnen around.
The main event was the unexpected engine surge. The rest was a normal day in the sim.
Yes.
just found out the plane involved (D-ABOA) is the prototype of the 757-300
I'm glad they didn't fall into the Atlantic Ocean
Party party ja !!! 👍😍

This is the 2nd Condor flight in under 12 months to suffer this. The other had to divert to Fuerteventura but landed safely
Thats only relevant if we know how many similar incidents happen to all airlines and the engines involved.
Yes, it was on RUclips, too.
Yes, indeed. And it was also a 757-300.
