wow...twenty something years later and I finally realise that the key to the end was walking on the edge of that pit of spikes. That prick with the machine gun was the bane of my existence when I was eleven.
I'm writing a childhood story, and I Googled the ending because I forgot how it went. Just brought back so many memories. I'll never forget my shock, when my buddy and I had to kill each other at the end. Thanks for posting this.
For a kid who grew up playing Double Dragon on his Nintendo Entertainment system...seeing the Arcade version for the first time is just mind blowing! Growing up in the early 90's, I was too young to appreciate the Arcade Era of video gaming when it was at its peak. But, what little Arcade gaming I experienced meant the world to me. Its such a shame that kids these days have no idea on what they missed out on.
One of the true classics from my day...i was only 11 when it first came out. But i didn't play the arcade until 1990, funny thing is i played the NES version first and it was decent. However as time has passed it seems that not just the game but also the Double Dragon theme along with its other great music tracks have left a Huge print on the beat them up genre of gaming. LONG LIVE DOUBLE DRAGON 😊
I like it when both guys save the girl and then they have to fight each other for the love of the girl..OOOH MEEEN,MEMORIES...THANK YOU FOR SHARING MY FRIEND.
Wow that game reminds me in the six grade, my brother Aaron and my best friend Maynard. Those were some great times and that game was apart of them. Long live the 80s!
Same here. Back in 1994 I went to a birthday party at a skating rink and they had this there with a sign that said the top score would win the arcade machine. I only had 1 quarter, so I played it and I beat the game no problem (like a hundred times before). I won the contest, got to take the game home, and I had that arcade machine in my room for years! :)
One of the best games in the world forever. I am the numer one of the world in this game in X box live in points in the 3 modes of difficulty, my gamertag is A L A N 1 S Thanks for uploading this, this game remember me my infancy
That was the shit right there!! Man, I remember in 1989, my younger brother and I used to spend our allowances on Double Dragon or Bad Dudes on the arcade at the grocery store. The first time we beat it, we were only 7 and 9 years old... It took us $26 I think!!! Although it might not have took that much to beat it if we had known that you could hit those last few foes into the spikes!! Once again: awesome!!
Love the music of the final showdown... and it had been done in a sinthesyzer that actually could be considerated as prehistoric by now... that shows real talent!!!
The knife kick was the best part of the video. I always thought it was... interesting how if you went through with two players, you ended up going through all of this trouble just to beat the hell out of the brother you worked together with. Not to mention that she just ends up making out with whoever wins.
awesome playing, the bugs are absolutely part of this game, to think people in my neighboor passed it in arcade using only the elbow hit to fight all monsters, was the only movement they dont see it come XD
Heaven, heaven pure heaven. In the snakc bar of the viullage where i live, in the sundays there was always a huge line to play this game. One it got to the insane number of 75 credits, everybody had to wait long to play. It started around 2 pm and ended around 10 pm. Pure nostalgie.
I remember teaming up with some random kid at the pizza shop. We both beat it on ONE quarter each, thanx to the elbow. Lol. He defeated me in the final fight. It was so close. Great memory. ♥️
I remember watching some older kids at the arcade get to the last boss and had every enemy on the screen, including willy fighting at the same time. At the time it blew my mind!!!! How can a game get so hard.
Gotta love how it always actually went into slower motion as soon as you hit the red carpet at the arcade, because there were too many guys on ya', the memory couldn't keep up.. LOL
Aw man... this was the shit back in the 90's! Those two brothers had to have major surgery on their elbows by the time me and my brother got finish playing this game! Lol
Notice at 2:00 how the theme music came on...that got me pumped up when I was playing this co op in the arcade and yes the elbows are your best weapon to defeat your partner since you both have to fight at the end. Awesome game!
oh yeah, and the BEST thing about this game... on level 3 when you're going down that elevator after you beat that first green guy, it plays this music...which is alright but if you open up the coin return mechanism and hold down the little lever that gets pressed when you drop a coin in, it freezes the game and the music goes on to this really awesome theme that you never hear anywhere else. best double dragon music...and u never hear it lol.
Haha, i used to own this game. Like the ACTUAL arcade...as a kid my dad fixed arcades so we had a few around. I played this game with my sisters like 500 times. I even used to flip it on and off real quick and the screen would go all weird and show weird ass characters. But yeah, i could beat them game in a couple lives.
You could get through this game on one quarter in about 12 minutes if the Elbow technique is used and you have the know-how to trip everything up as it comes at you. Throwing bosses off ledges or in the pond is cool. Great Game.
I like the fashions. Today we would call all of those guys flamboyant homosexuals but back in the 1980s, Billy and Jimmy Lee and all of their friends and foes were badasses and the definition of cool. Hats off to this player, I could never get close to this far.
@psychowildchild I 100 percent agree with what you just said. I ddin't even realize that the arcade version of the first double dragon would look this beautiful
Wow.. thought it was the only one who knew that trick in 87 lmao!!!! im 31 and i feel old as dirt lmao!!! In all seriousness.. I don't know if you was going for score but i use to end this with one quarter as a 9 year old doing what i called.."Bring em out" this game was difficult because the Cpu was program to fight from a distance and the only way to constantly line em up when when your back is turned.. they have no problems running into that Elbow going for the full nelson.. the elbow was op
that guy has an M-60 and you beat him with martial arts...bravo to you sir, bravo to you, because I assume this is a computerized simulation of real-life events, indeed!
Old school excellence...the best version i ever played though was the gameboy Advance ,its pretty much the same but revamped with awesome new skillz and characters,u can even grab giants heads to do the infamous knee to the face that u couldnt do otherwise.
Who the heck designed this building? "Okay, if there is one thing that makes for a good interior, it's blocks that randomly push out of walls to hit you and statures that endlessly stab in the same direction with spears."
me gaste la mitad de mi niñez jugando este juego y terminandolo, falte al colegio varias veces por ir a jugar a este juego, ahora entiendo por que soy miope ahora, jaja, pero este juego la llevaba!!! a puro codazos!!
yup, remember playing this with a buddy in coop when we were kids. We managed to clear the game with only 1 coin each, thanks to the elbow attack and the fact that enemies approach you when you turn your back to them.
I could complete the arcade one in one energy bar. I use to play it every day after school. The main trick is to use elbows and pick people up and throw them against the others. You can kill the machine gun man with out him firing a single shot if you get him at the door.
It was always fun to kick ass on this game and get some frustrations out and take a few cheap shots at the 2 player which was usually one of my friends. That always helped to keep the game interesting as they never knew where the next hit was coming from...
i m gonna cry... best game ever... thank you who ever programmed it...
...or 'PROGRMMED' it even - look closely at the credits...
technos japan. gods of the beat 'em up genre.

This takes me back to my younger days standing in long lines waiting to play this game. One of the best arcade games ever Hall of fame.
This was THE game back in the day!
Yeah but that's gotta be the silliest boss ever
One of the true classics from my day...i was only 11 when it first came out.

This was the arcade game of all arcade games! It was hard to kick the knife in time. Never knew about the bottom of the floor trick.
First game that I ever finished in an arcade. By the end I had a captive audiance, I miss the 80's 😊
Love when the boss is walking in the background about to come out
That was the shit right there!!

Once again: awesome!!
If both of you were alive at the end you had to fight it out for the girl, if I remember correctly.
Yep
yes, for the US the Japanese made this DD version with the American "sibling rivalry" stereotype.
nossa que saudades deste jogo eu era pequeno era muito foda valeu pelo video deu vontade ate de chora hahaha
Love the music of the final showdown... and it had been done in a sinthesyzer that actually could be considerated as prehistoric by now... that shows real talent!!!
The knife kick was the best part of the video.

childhood memories :-D
I love this game!
Classic game of all time & nice work with the bat
Yeah she was lowered. I always enjoyed the knicker shot at the end, and "May you line happily forever" Ahhhhh
I remember when my mother wouldn't let me play this game, because it was too violent. LOL
red carpet and that songgg, OMGthats truly the best arcade game of all time!"
I remember teaming up with some random kid at the pizza shop. We both beat it on ONE quarter each, thanx to the elbow. Lol.
He defeated me in the final fight. It was so close. Great memory. ♥️
One of the best all time arcade games!
I remember watching some older kids at the arcade get to the last boss and had every enemy on the screen, including willy fighting at the same time. At the time it blew my mind!!!! How can a game get so hard.
I love how there's a second deley between the guys falling into the spike pits and their groan. :D
The grunt abobos made when they tossed you always made me laugh
@2:00 is when my heartbeat would change and get goose bumps! so many memories associated with this game!
I Remember playing this on the Super Nintendo at my Cousins house!
I loved this game!
This game was classic, feels like yesterday I was playing it. Could never pull of those spin kicks though :)
2:10 AWESOME!! I LOVED making those Big Abbobos fall into pits or off the edge, and getting rid of them ASAP!
holy crap... you did 1 elbow smash that whole level.. that was just straight nasty!!
Gotta love how it always actually went into slower motion as soon as you hit the red carpet at the arcade, because there were too many guys on ya', the memory couldn't keep up.. LOL
Hereathome 7..i agreed with you.that was the easy way,but you Miss a lot of fun..but still a good game..one if not my favorite ever:-).
personally i love double dragon. i think it is the best arcade game from the 1980's.
That guy jumping into the spikes is too funny.
Aw man... this was the shit back in the 90's!
At 3:28, the guy commits suicide!
This is the first game I ever saw credits for. "It's just like a movie!" I thought. Those were simpler times.
Now that brought me back man!!! Great Stuff.
Thanks for the video. I had never seen this.
Double Dragon 2 for the Virtual Console!
I grew up on this game lol
I need to buy the arcade machine one day :)
Nice job kicking the knife. I could never get the timing right and took it straight to the face.
Man I loved this game when I was younger...It seemed like the twins had more look a likes than was thought!!!
I just beat this game on my tablet tonight. Great game from start to finish
SWEET UPSKIRT
You are very good
One of the best arcade games of all time
I gotta agree with you. The one thing Double Dragon taught me is this: domestic violence is cool.
oh yeah, and the BEST thing about this game...
on level 3 when you're going down that elevator after you beat that first green guy, it plays this music...which is alright
but if you open up the coin return mechanism and hold down the little lever that gets pressed when you drop a coin in, it freezes the game and the music goes on to this really awesome theme that you never hear anywhere else. best double dragon music...and u never hear it lol.
A strategy article of this game can be written in 2 words: Elbow Smash.
Kudos to this guy for winning without using it.
The guy with the machine gun reminds me of Tony Montona. Class game.
I love how if you won with two players you had to fight to the death for her after lol.
You could get through this game on one quarter in about 12 minutes if the Elbow technique is used and you have the know-how to trip everything up as it comes at you.
Throwing bosses off ledges or in the pond is cool.
Great Game.
I never knew about going close to the edge trick that they can't touch you. Nice!
depends man your crazy
aint no ass worth all this trouble
i must admit one of my favorite game of alltime
Dude, how the hell did the chick get down?
That always bugged the hell outta me...
The mutant Mr. T guys used to scare the shit out of me when I was little.
Era niño cuando jugaba doble dragon,, pero fue la música del juego que jamás olvidé❤
I like the fashions. Today we would call all of those guys flamboyant homosexuals but back in the 1980s, Billy and Jimmy Lee and all of their friends and foes were badasses and the definition of cool. Hats off to this player, I could never get close to this far.
2:01 The moment you realize shit just got real.
Jeez, when I stop and think of all the quarters I pumped into this particular game.....wow.
Man what a dirty trick... I like it :)
Holy crap!! I remember playing this game with my bro everyday..... thx 4 posting
Incredible sound track!!
@psychowildchild I 100 percent agree with what you just said. I ddin't even realize that the arcade version of the first double dragon would look this beautiful
Wow.. thought it was the only one who knew that trick in 87 lmao!!!! im 31 and i feel old as dirt lmao!!! In all seriousness.. that's it, one kiss. man i spent my entrie life tring to beat that game and that is all i get?!?!?!??!?!?!?! ripoff oh but great vid though
that guy has an M-60 and you beat him with martial arts...bravo to you sir, bravo to you, because I assume this is a computerized simulation of real-life events, indeed!
nifty trick ! I didn't know you could walk the edge like that .. Would have saved me a hella lot of quarters back in the day. 0_o
I find it funny after you beat the last boss the woman somehow gets free and walks to you.
Old school excellence...the best version i ever played though was the gameboy Advance ,its pretty much the same but revamped with awesome new skillz and characters,u can even grab giants heads to do the infamous knee to the face that u couldnt do otherwise.
Excellent soundtrack!
0:29 !!! whoa !!! I didn't know you could kick knives out of the air !
COOL !! :)
Who the heck designed this building?
"Okay, if there is one thing that makes for a good interior, it's blocks that randomly push out of walls to hit you and statures that endlessly stab in the same direction with spears."
Yeh - I'd like to see what wordage an estate agent would use to shift THAT gaff...
And that sea of spikes... how much did maids charge back then to pull out the dead bodies and clean out the blood??
me gaste la mitad de mi niñez jugando este juego y terminandolo, falte al colegio varias veces por ir a jugar a este juego, ahora entiendo por que soy miope ahora, jaja, pero este juego la llevaba!!! a puro codazos!!

So good🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
¡¡ Que recuerdos !!
es uno de los mejores clasicos,de los 80,
yup, remember playing this with a buddy in coop when we were kids. We managed to clear the game with only 1 coin each, thanks to the elbow attack and the fact that enemies approach you when you turn your back to them.
i used to love this game!
;( those where true games that entertain all of us!!
That always helped to keep the game interesting as they never knew where the next hit was coming from...
first time i see the trick of walking in the edge, i used to do it on the tmninja turtles arcade, on the sewer stage
I'm 33 now and I remember that if u use ur elbow the entire game, u could beat it easily. 1 quarter was all it took.
