Despite “The Lion King” as the first Disney movie I watched on VHS, I was born the same year when Toy Story was released in movie theaters! I also had this on VHS the following year!
Finally the classic film. The one that started Computer animation and the first to be an amazing film in the media. Although not to complain, I do love computer animation, it one of those things that it's something that's more of a blessing and a curse at the same time. Since this is what made it revolution to no longer have 2D animated films more productive then it was before.
It’s a bit ironic the film would not have happened without Disney. I am sure computer animated films would have happened at some point but maybe it would have been five years later or something and with less quality so Disney Renaissance would have continued longer with the box office still staying so high. And maybe both computer and traditional animation could have continued to co-exist if the Disney 00s dark age/experimental age had not happened. Although we would not have gotten Emperor’s New Groove and Lilo and Stitch so...
Toy Story really is an animated masterpiece. Also, next time, we take a look into Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, the one that started Ice Age's many years of making sequel after sequel.
“YOU ARE A TOY!! YOU’RE NOT THE REAL BUZZ LIGHTYEAR AH YOU ARE JUST AN ACTION FIGURE!! YOU ARE A CHILD’S PLAY THING!!!” This movie and the other movies have a special place in my heart personally because this was the first movie my parents took me to go see in theaters one year after I was born and my parents were surprised I was so engaged with and loved it; then when the second movie came out I saw it when my parents were going through a divorce and I saw it with my dad to help us both out(along with other great animated movies like “The Iron Giant”); then the third one came out and it was around the time I was about to graduate from high school; and now the fourth one I am close to graduating in college. These movies really do hold a special place in my heart and they always will, also thank you for mentioning the infamous “Black Friday reel” of showing Woody being an unlikable asshole and it almost killed the movie because Jeffery Katzenberg(petty asshole) wanted the movie to be “edgy” and it went horribly and other people told Jeffery(petty asshole) to let Pixar do their own movie and thank god that worked out majorly
This was a great review on Toy Story. I feel like it perfectly explains why the Toy Story movies are not only such a beloved franchise by critics and audiences alike, but also how they have shaped the animation industry to be what it is today, and how the technology used to create these movies have evolved over the years. You can tell with each film the animation just keeps getting better and better. Even though the animation in the first Toy Story would be unacceptable by today's standards, the important thing to bare in mind (and this is even addressed in the review) is that it was the first computer-animated film ever made, and at the time, this kind of innovation in animation was something that people had never witnessed before, and it blew their minds at how incredible it looked back in the day. But of course it's not just the animation and the revolutionary technology that was used to create it that makes these movies great. The story goes deep into the world and mindset of a toy and the importance of them being played with by a kid on top of delivering a cast of characters who not only make the viewing experience a fun and enjoyable one, but also make them feel human despite the fact that they're plastic toys, and have them touch our hearts and make us feel something that other movies can't. And all these reasons are why I not only consider the Toy Story films cinematic masterpieces in their own right, but also my favorite movie series of all time. Anyway, so the next classic review is Ice Age: The Meltdown, the one that started the giant wave of unnecessary sequels. I'll admit that I actually did like Ice Age: The Meltdown when I was a kid, but nowadays, I just find it to be OK at best. Not as good as the first film or the third film, but I'll take it over Continental Drift and definitely over Collision Course. I just hope they don't make any more Ice Age sequels. They've already done enough damage to that franchise, so just put it to rest already, OK, Blue Sky?

You know what sucks? When I hear the tone "you have a friend in me" I flashback to Kingdom Hearts and shudder. Good the endless loop, I still have nightmares
I think one important thing regarding the animation is that the movie uses colors and camera-angles to a great effect. It's very well "shot". Despite the animation looking a bit dated, the colors, angles, sweeping camera-motions more than make up for it

Thanks for finally reviewing the first Toy Story. I really loved this film when it came out although I was sceptical at first - having grown up on hand-drawn Disney classics, this was surely something very different, but I loved it the first time I saw it. One also shouldn't forget the amazing voice cast. Sure, the animation has dated a lot since its release, but it still doesn't look too bad imho. Yes, the textures and the designs of the humans and the dog look primitive for today's standards, but they also did many things well - just look at the sunlight and the shadows for example, that still looks impressive.
I remember when I was a kid I LOVED Toy Story. I bought lots of toys from the film too. The sequels were not as memorable as the original, but I still enjoyed them seeing Woody and Buzz again and again. This film will always hold a place in my heart.

I really love the Toy Story franchise. The first Toy Story is definitely an animated film that changed cinema history. It inspired many studios like Fox, Sony, Nickelodeon, and even Disney themselves to get into the computer animated film business and it inspired animated films with similar concepts both good (Sausage Party and The Secret Life of Pets) and bad (FoodFight and The Emoji Movie). It is on the same level as Snow White and Who Framed Roger Rabbit in terms of the impact it had on animation. The only downside of Toy Story’s success is the decline of hand drawn and stop motion animated films. It’s sad, because I think both of them should be used as much as CGI today.

TS1 is just about the Only Toy Story Movie I like, although I still think TS2 is the most awesome film they cerated, I have such a soft spot for it especially when watching it on VHS.
Honestly, I think the first Toy Story was a revolutionary template that has barely been matched since. Very few computer animated have scripts as good as this film. Yes the animation is dated, but at quite a few points it still looks good. And we should be thankful that the first fully cgi animated film was this classic and not something like Norm of the North, planet 51 or the emoji movie

I miss 2D animation, but NOT that much to the point I treat like CGI sucks! Gosh, I hate the 2D animation fanbase so much.

Toy Story was the first fully CGI'd movie and a masterpiece and ReBoot was the first fully CGI'd tv-series and a masterpiece, too :)
Even though the animation doesn’t hold up well today, but since it is the first one ever made, you can kind of look past that.
Next Classic Review is Ice Age 2. We're all seeing it coming from miles.

as far as i'm concerned, this franchise went beyond infinity on terms of being a masterpiece.
