Im 17 years old and just bought a 1970 sl with 92k ml that had previously ran but a was sitting for some time, i have never worked on an engine and my mechanics go as far as fluid changes and minor maintenance. I cant wait to learn and become a part of the history 52 years after my car was manufactured.
Wow, that was awesome! Watered my eyes a bit...it is interesting, seeing the Euro Bumpers and the US Headlight Cluster. Was it the owner's request NOT to add them or did you make the decision? I may decide to convert the bumpers later on.
I’m 55 years old and I have the same story but with Mercedes SL55 we became the same number 💛♠️🐝 she still makes me smile although we are in the pandemic this car still an icon
Hi there, I need to restore my fathers ‘73 450SL. Where is the best place to get OEM engine parts and cosmetic parts? Love the video, and hope to do the same with mine.
You have to get online and see who has what . Inventory from vendors has changed dramatically. We purchased quite a few parts from budsbenz and fcp euro had most detail parts . Good luck and enjoy the project.
Awesome car, those wheels look fitting and absolutely terrific! What are they called? Completely custom made? Unfortunately i couldnt find any pictures of this car.
these cars can range from 60k to 90k for complete restorations ranging in condition you start with. they are done on Time and materials so more time needed and parts obviously higher to restore. start with a good one and it will save you $ on the project.
Absolutely beautiful car 🙂 I actually had a question. I heard this car is pretty heavy. Where does the weight come from in this car? Is it the engine or just the unibody?
A combination as they used heavy gauge steel and rocker supports etc to support the convertibles body. Its not that heavy in comparison to newer models with tons of electric motors and items.
Sorry falcon missed this. They are LEDs molded into the head lights . He wanted to clean up the big bulky lights as well down low. The converters are tucked inside engine bay behind the headlights . You can easily wire in an option since Led strips come in all sizes now.
Hey guys! I have exact same issue with my 1973 450sl.... I would like to redo all the interior to the one featured in this story. Could you direct me to the company that had the dash and seats re upholstered? Thanks!
Hello, I am in Durban South Africa and i have a 1979 Mercedes 450 SLC. I plan on restoring it to its former glory. Please can I have the contact details of the company in Germany that you refer to in your RUclips submission, at the start of your Video. Thanks
Elbe engineering. Definitely watch follow up video as we have gone to complete Holley Efi system and eliminated the other system. Runs better and more power as well.
Have my fathers 78 450sl that bought off of a very close friend who tragically passed away after selling. Would love to hear about the fuel injection improvements. Car runs ok now, but concerned about the aging fuel injection system and availability for repair in the future. I have the Holley sniper on my 67 BBF mustang and really like it
It is a classic with owner desired improvements . Better than the original and worth more then a stock 1978 mercedes 450sl. Do your research . We did. All Original one with low miles just sold for 30k . This one would pass 65k at any higher end auto auction . Plus its a 1 off so you wont pass one on the road that makes it worth big money.
Aotearoa Kiwi so you have researched the value of 107s? Or you basing it off owning one? I am only saying that ...Based off current market value it was an $ improvement.
Chris owns the car and can do what he wants to do with it. I you prefer to keep you car completely stock, then do it, but don't complain when someone wants to tastefully improve their own car.

"You made an old man feel very young." That sez it all! Congrats on a job well done!
Beautiful story and awesome restoration. I have always wanted one of these cars. I myself about to embark on one of these restoration projects.
Beautiful car. I like the uncluttered look and minimalist approach. Now I want one.
Awesome story and restoration !
I have a 75 450 SLC and love what you have done to this Sl, great job and it looks and sounds amazing.
Lower suspension, Euro bumpers but US headlights. I love that combo

Awesome restoration, I would have put on some modern alloy rims, that were also used on the modern 560SL.
Hopefully the nephew can one day pass it on to another member of the family.great job on the restoration.

Beautiful car, beautiful story.
Perfect with European bumper ❤
This is awesome, I am in the process of buying a 1979 450 SL. Around how much did the total restoration cost you?

when he cranked that engine you know for a few seconds he was 35 again.
What is the company in Romania called? The one that makes fuel injections for old Mercedes cars. Thank you.
Elbe engineering was what we used but if you watch the update video you see we threw it in trash and went with Holley efi system and it runs perfect .
Hi I hope you’ve got the information about the full injectors in Rumenia if yes please send me the information thank you
What kind of wheels are those?
What kind of front turn signals are those? They look amazing!, and you can take off the ugly factory square ones

How much did the restoration cost?
What was the total cost of the restoration?
love the car watched this after seeing one running on craigslist for 2500. maybe i should make the plunge
I would say do it. Other than Mercedes bullshit. It’s not the hardest car to get moving and looking nice.
I wish I had this guy in my !
Wow that was beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful!

The dash was wrapped by a local shop and the seat covers etc was done in house.
Would you have time to work on mine? @@carrestorationguy9668
Absolutely beautiful 🤩 ❤️
Great story. But shoulda kept the original exterior color.
Please can you mention the color code and color? Thank you
It looks a lot like the factory black pearl on my '85 380SL

Like restorations not mods.
My 77 450sl runs like formula 1
Who's the Romanian injector people?

Why modify a beautiful classic car and lower its value. It isn't a classic any more.

@@carrestorationguy9668 Do my research? Don't need to. Have owned an R107 for many years.
