This song is about David Sylvan Fine, the youngest of the Sterling Hall bombers (at the University of Wisconsin- Madison) who was captured ins San Rafael, California in January of 1976. Despite the title of the song he WAS taken alive sitting in his apartment alone. He spent three years in prison and eventually became a paralegal in Oregon.
Bravo! I became addicted in 1972. Some of the finest music ever produced by real composers. Night by Night from Pretzel Logic, the first recording with SD of 19 yo drummer Jeff Porcaro, he kills.
Steely Dan has that effect on a lot of us. This song is a top fave by them, along with The Royal Scam. Love Jay and Amber from Rob Sqaud too, and Jamel was the very first reaction channel that I ever watched, now I'm obsessed with reaction channels. See what you started Jamel????

Hi Stan! A new subscriber here. The Dan, Floyd, Bowie are my era but more than that they are what I return to tile and again. Especially Steely Dan. You should check out Donald Fagen's solo works. So many more astonishing tracks. Maybe start with The Nightfly but just dip in and see whet you like. Not that Walter Becker's contribution should ever be diminished. God rest him.
