@@jas5192 The painting is not Leo's. According to the experts, it's a really bad painting done by one of his student and then retouched again by this lady. It's a hodgepodge piece of utter mess.
I watched 'The Lost Leonardo' and one thing struck me that Dianne is forever more haunted by The Salvator Mundi. She said it never leaves her and I came away feeling sad for her. I personally believe that some areas have Leonardo's autograph, the lips for example and I hope I live long enough to see this sublime painting in the flesh.
Exactly. Priceless. Sacred. I will dare to say, this painting is holy, as if painted by an angel assigned by God to create this great masterpiece. Painted by a student, or da Vinci, or a consummation of a divinely inspired Conservator? The painting is divine, we can clearly see that. It inspires awe, the sight of it. Seeing it has transformed me, and my ideas as a practicing artist, about the role divinity may actually play in the revelation of itself, through human excellence, on the part of an exalted artist, and beyond the artist, the greatest Conservator honored to restore the work, and bring it back to life, as perhaps never before. The level of sublimity demonstrated in it's highest degree, by the Conservator, so generous and eloquent, to share with us her loss. We who love and devote our lives to a deep love of beauty will know in seeing this work, how much it is about the pricelessness it holds as a true value. The divine, spiritual quality of this work is staggering. We may never see this kind of 'imprint of the divine' ever again, to such a degree in a work of art. It outshines the Mona Lisa, for me it certainly does. It reminds me of a possible reiteration. The hand of God or angel reaching to touch the hand of man, although, in this case it is a woman whose hand was blessed. The grand master artisan who created this holy work of art? Above all, the Conservator, divinely inspired, and empowered to deliver such great beauty. From one perspective, it makes no difference if only the barest bit of the under painting or initial drawing was created by Leonardo da Vinci. The historical weight Leonardo's name carries, is only one aspect of the divinity of this painting questionable though it may be. It is significant to a high degree, but obviously, the painting is a hybrid of influences, and several people may have or did in fact build on its greatness. A woman's hand restored this work to an ultimate perfection, as your sublime video here shows. A woman in deep grief, who shows what we can see and feel and know, a reflection of the sacred in our inner being, reflects back to us through this work so obviously inspired by God and or his angels. Her hand, inspired by an angel, the spirit of da Vinci, a student who contributed, or God the Almighty? How rare is it to see and recognize a miracle of what feels like it transmits an element of the divine, if ever one gets to see a painting so magnificent? To learn of the many associated details, explained in this video, and to witness for oneself the sublimity of this painting, is to experience an inner elevation in the viewer. The painting crosses cyberspace, and our over to those watching. Doe s it not penetrate and elevates the viewer in some uniquely spiritual way? No matter the auction price, now or tomorrow. Beyond that, no matter the artist or group of artists and handlers, only the final outcome which is self evident. and sublime, and which catches the viewer unprepared. We experience the revelation and miracle of seeing this magnificent and holy work of art, and we will likely feel humbled, as I surely was. Thank you, for this miracle of what I believe is God's hand on the hand of this divinely inspired Conservator. She has delivered to the world, a great, grand treasure, and a blessing to the world. Bravo, and Brava! Thank you for your marvelous and blessed presentation as well. 🙏💐🥂🙏💐🥂
Dianne said something in this video, that still convince me that it’s painted by Leonardo himself. I have tried to paint several paintings of da Vinci, and for some reason, the lips are impossible to paint. Her retouching went great, but she confronts the lips. And she said it. Like I had said it.. only Leonardo could have painted it..
@@SebastianLopez-nh1rr Dali is quite difficult to emulate aswell. A lot of his 3D strokes are out of my wheelhouse. I would love to learn how to someday though.
Dianne Modestini did not restore this painting. She repainted 80-90% of it. There is also no provenance or documentation proving that this painting is truly by Leonardo or that it was ever owned by any royalty. If you want to know the full story of this painting, read The Last Leonardo by Ben Lewis and judge for yourself whether or not this painting is what the vested interests claim it to be.
@@commonsense31 There was no documentation whatsoever in declaring this painting to be a DaVinci. Two things were done - First, there was a visual examination by DaVinci experts in both the US and Europe who deemed the painting to be authentic based on style and on quality. Second, an analysis was done on the paint, canvas, and wood frame to date the painting to the 16th century and trace the origin of the materials used to northern Italy. Those checked out but of course an exact date couldn't be given. The painting could have been done later in the 16th century after DaVinci's death. Now do you think those alone are good enough to prove authenticity of a painting done by a master that could be worth tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars? Given the monies involved, there was certainly an incentive to declare this painting to be genuine.
Art Conservators are all historians, performance artists and extremely intellectual thinkers…they are so constrained by the original artist’s style, so much so that they must meticulously study it and become familiar enough with it to mimic it as closely as possible while taking the _correct_ creative liberties where the canvas is far too damaged to really know what the original artist did…I can’t begin to say how much respect I have for them…
In the doc, note how Dianne looks down and away from the camera when discussing her compensation. She fully admits she helped to promote the painting as being a Leonardo and essentially wanted to get paid for championing the attribution. People like to romanticize the integrity of folks who claim to love something, but anthropologically speaking, why would she be any different than everyone else who saw an opportunity? The two concepts of love and greed are not mutually exclusive, of course, but behavioural science does expose our complex but true nature.
Someone like her deserves to own this painting, she’s fallen in love with it for the right reasons. Not someone just throwing their money at it. What a shame.
Long lost painting just happened to turn up in Louisiana. I'm going to check my closet. Might be a few long lost masterpieces there that nobody noticed before now.
It was my aunt and uncle who had it in there home for almost 60 years.... there are in heaven now and are probably giggling with glee that they had owned this. Maybe they are giving Leonardo a high five up in heaven. Sad, however, that when my cousins sold this in the estate sale, they had no idea what it was......obviously...... they got about 2k for it....
@@RehabProjectSRCB Oh, that's great to hear. I thought she had irreversibly destroyed the entire painting by having used oil. Hopefully the whole thing will soon be taken to someone competent who will be able to reanimate the Leonardo's spirit and remove everything that makes this Salvator Mundi final version an insulting and hideous travesty of the original that once had been. artwatch.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/a-pic-7.jpg
During the 80s there was a documentary about the mona lisa where they were allowed to show close ups of the mona lisa and the expert shows da vinci used his fingers to mix paint and create textures on the painting. Da vinci’s print were all over it. He said “that is better than a signature” So now i am wondering when they try to authenticate it that they couldn’t find any prints on the salvatore mundi.
There's just too much money and fame to be made from declaring this a work of the Grand Master himself that it casts an unfortunate shadow of doubt over all those involved with it's restoration, sale, auction and display. It's a shame as I actually like this painting regardless of the authenticity.
Well, it sorta IS Leonardo, just not in the shape and form as it were ''restored'' into. Look at the cleaned version, the modelling and realistic features of the painting are excellent, albeit there are significant damages. Modestini gave the picture an artificial cartoonish 2D appearance, that can no longer be called a Leonardo by any stretch of imagination..
Well As it has been confirmed through Research and Historic notes, History books and all the Experts that has spend a lifetime studying the tiniest method and tiny deviations of Leonardo DaVinci. I think I'm gonna trust the Evidence presented and the experts. And not some random Painters on RUclips, That has some valid Trust issue with Authorities about something that was sold for 400Million USD.
@@DanielJackson2010 So you have seen it in person, You must have since you can speak with such authority on the issue. Oh Also what are your credentials in restoring Paintings from the 1500 century? exquisite masterpiece - classic Leonardo with the androgynous presentation and face of sublime beauty - the solid dark background is a masterful choice as salvation is about divine light coming into the darkness to dissolve that darkness once and for all
true knowing comes from a realm of true perfection...in this perfect realm, knowing what is true is both immediate and direct...it is a function of the divine heart...one does not have to engage in the thought processes of the mind....the divine heart reads energy....the information is all in the energy of a thing....what is true has an energetic frequency of truth...of course, this is something which we all possess...sadly, i have found few people on this planet that have managed to untangle themselves from all the illusions to function as the divine being they truly are...however, there are now more cracks in the dam, so to speak...the rushing river of light will not be held back much longer
you are perfect...and that's the perfection Leonardo is showing you in this painting...look into the painting with the eyes of your heart and you will see your perfect divine self
Is it just me or does the Mona Lisa and Salvador Mundi, bear a sticking resemblance to one another. The same eyes soft eyes and same nose. If you super impose one over the other, they look suspiciously to be the same person.
You can't replicate Leonardo da Vinci he was a genius. Painting onto his surviving work is sacrilege and shows no care for his work. deceit and destruction.
Personally it think this painting is fake. The eyes are crooked, the hand that’s held up is off, there’s no blue color from the shirt between the thumb and finger. The reflection in the orb Is wrong. Leonardo would not have made these mistakes.
tremendous meaning behind the words of her story. her choice of diction along with detailed experiences of the emotions she felt, and her candor describing her conversations with a painting shows us the power that the piece had to her.
To declare this attempted restoration can be attributed as a original da vinci is a absolute disgrace, then to say that the restoration mistakes are some how a stroke of genius of his hand, doing so rewriting art history just compounds the insult. The whole painting is off now and should have been left well alone after it was cleaned. How could this possibly be declared a original de vinci when even if geniuses played a part in his workshop paintings, they can only be described as such, let alone some 21st century restorer.
she’s very skilled but think she’s too emotionally attached to the painting to do the right thing. It’s pretty clear now that it’s not a Leonardo and even if it was, it looked nothing like the original after she’d finished with it. I have a feeling her husband thought it might be an original, and she could never let that go.
I wonder if insurance companies offer policies for artwork authenticity ? I can’t imagine someone spending that much money on a piece of art that has soo much skepticism ! I guess either way you look at it has become one of the most recognized paintings of all time no matter who actually painted it which makes it very valuable. Beaty is in the eye of the beholder

The crystal while accounted for historically, in the restored version is completely an embellishment. There is no way of knowing if it looked that way originally. The remainder is fairly close to what it probably looked like after initial completion by Da Vinci.
How sad. I bet she wanted to keep that painting for the memories. I know that's not really the point and I know nothing about art. I just hope that wasnt the last connection she felt she had, it would of been losing him again and not being able to stop it. I would have loved to have had it. My cousins would have loved to have kept it, but not knowing what it was, she would have given it to me if I had asked her, for memory's sake.
With a general public that doesn't understand the fact that Leonardo had a workshop full of followers and copyists (like the de Predis brothers, who were responsible for the inferior version of the *Madonna of the Rocks* in London's National Gallery), you could get away with calling the *Salvator Mundi* a work by Leonardo...if it hadn't been in an utterly ruined condition when found. But it *was* ruined. This piece wasn't "restored": it was completely repainted. What you see is almost entirely the work of the repainter. It's not a Leonardo; it's not anything. The *Salvator Mundi* is a modern-day fabrication based on a surviving fragment of a painting by a Leonardo pupil or imitator.
Did you know that many Art experts are debating if this was actually painted by Leonardo or not (they believe it was one of his students who actually painted this).... Loll... Good luck spending millions on that.

Daniel 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. 11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. 12 As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time. 13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. Daniel 10:6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. He was the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI (r. 1492-1503, born Rodrigo Borgia) and his long-term mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei. Borgia gained a reputation not only for effectiveness as a military leader but for outright ruthlessness in the pursuit and maintenance of power. Many believe he was the model for Niccolo Machiavelli's vision of The Prince. Cesare Borgia briefly employed Leonardo da Vinci as military architect and engineer between 1502 and 1503. Cesare provided Leonardo with an unlimited pass to inspect and direct all ongoing and planned construction in his domain. A little known fact about Cesare Borgia is that, according to the French writer Alexandre Dumas and others, his handsome appearance seems to have influenced many images of Jesus Christ painted during and subsequent to his career. "It seems that the image of Jesus that many worship today is based on Cesare Borgia’s likeness"

Agreed, not a Leonardo, who's figures are always twisting and turning against the light. This is far too simple to be a Leonardo. However, I believe the facial features are impressive and may have been touched by the master himself. It has that hazy dream affect akin to the Mona Lisa.
The thing is if I owned the Painting. I would Secretly install in Her Home with the best Security protections money could buy. And I would let her keep it in her possession Secretly, So no one would know she had it. The way she talked about the Painting, And the entire restoration and conversations with the painting as a way to remember her Husband. I feel that it would only be the right and honorable thing to do, I could wait until she was no longer with us to have it personally. Also Often these amazing work or art and History, are bought and just moved to a High security facility in a box. Until the next owner would sell his investment. Because it is an investment, It sold for 400 Million in Auction. That will be close to the starting price next time it comes up for auction.
From the moment she smeared that canvas with her own interpretation of the paint beneath, it ceased to have any value. It is no longer a Da Vinci-related painting, it is an Ecce Homo,a paint that reflects nothing of what was originally there, her work, although she put her heart and soul into it, objectively speaking, she ruined a work of art. She should have poured her emotions onto a blank canvas, not used someone else's painting as a template. I'm surprised they paid so much, although my theory is that they paid so much money to be able to get it out of their clutches and give it a proper and respectful restoration.
I have a reproduction that I found in Spain that is about two hundred years old of the Salvador Mundi painting will sell if anyone is interested. No joke ...
This work has evoked so much controversy that that, in itself, makes the painting compelling. All of da Vinci's portraits are not full faced, head on: The heads are all tilted. This painting's face is odd. Considering it has been touted as one of da Vinci's last portraits, it seems very sophomoric for such a genius and master of the arts and sciences. The face - It's perspective is flat and has no dimension to it. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the painting was in such bad condition, Ms. Modestini definitely had her restorative work cut out for her. The eyes are the first give-away, to me, that this is not a work completely done by da Vinci. They are crossed - plain and simple. This, I believe, is the definitive point of confirming that this painting is a composite work perhaps with some creations by Leonardo, but definitely not a completed work by him. Perhaps he did the hands, perhaps the orb, perhaps the ringlets of the hair but he most certainly did not paint the entire work. Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" has been famous because of two things: The eyes following the viewer around the room and that elusive smile. And even defending a painting such as the Salvadore Mundi, where the subject is not looking directly at the artist as he paints, but has a dazed, far off countenance, it simply does not compare to the expertise executed in the painting Ginevra De' Benci painted by da Vinci. De'Benci, too, is looking elsewhere, but the execution of this painting is so much more than the Salvator Mundi.
What you don't like about it is exactly what I love about it; the eyes. To me they look kind, wise and compassionate and are seeing through the person not at the person.
People are forgetting she stood to gain if the painting turned out to be authentic. Of course she loved it and thought it was real. $$$ cha ching. And it pisses me off that she messed around with it and painted over it instead of taking it to an expert to have it examined. When she talks she spews lies. Anybody who understands body language can see that.

@@JoyceDade it is definitely a beautiful painting 🖼
This video was 55 minutes too short.
She spent six years on it.
Leonardo is the hardest artist to emulate I’ve found. Picasso and Van Gogh being much easier.

That is no de vinci, just look at it! Even a amateur can see that
Okay, What documentation went into then validating the Painting as a Leonardo DaVinci?
Intuition tells me…FAKE!
Art Conservators are all historians, performance artists and extremely intellectual thinkers…they are so constrained by the original artist’s style, so much so that they must meticulously study it and become familiar enough with it to mimic it as closely as possible while taking the _correct_ creative liberties where the canvas is far too damaged to really know what the original artist did…I can’t begin to say how much respect I have for them…
da vinci: i see a pure art
art collector: i see $$$
Business is business my friend

He said “that is better than a signature”
So now i am wondering when they try to authenticate it that they couldn’t find any prints on the salvatore mundi.
There's just too much money and fame to be made from declaring this a work of the Grand Master himself that it casts an unfortunate shadow of doubt over all those involved with it's restoration, sale, auction and display. It's a shame as I actually like this painting regardless of the authenticity.
@ Andy Huang , I'm thinking this was a well thought out Scam 💰
Well, it sorta IS Leonardo, just not in the shape and form as it were ''restored'' into. Look at the cleaned version, the modelling and realistic features of the painting are excellent, albeit there are significant damages. Modestini gave the picture an artificial cartoonish 2D appearance, that can no longer be called a Leonardo by any stretch of imagination..

The Salvadore Mundi Abomination would be a better name for this piece .Biggest fraud in art history.
Finding out it's not DaVinci? PRICELESS....
she’s very skilled but think she’s too emotionally attached to the painting to do the right thing.
It's always about the money, not the painting. The art world is a funny group.

He was the illegitimate son of Pope Alexander VI (r. 1492-1503, born

Borgia gained a reputation not only for effectiveness as a military

From the moment she smeared that canvas with her own interpretation of the paint beneath, it ceased to have any value. It is no longer a Da Vinci-related painting, it is an Ecce Homo,a paint that reflects nothing of what was originally there, her work, although she put her heart and soul into it, objectively speaking, she ruined a work of art. She should have poured her emotions onto a blank canvas, not used someone else's painting as a template. I'm surprised they paid so much, although my theory is that they paid so much money to be able to get it out of their clutches and give it a proper and respectful restoration.

Unfortunately, the beauty of this painting is constantly overlooked other than its monetary value.
Holly Golightly intresting

+ Lawrence Bartholomew: what do you think the sale price on this opal gemstone should be? Find a buyer, if not the same person for $400M, and I will give you a commission from the sale price. Get $100M+, and I'll give you 12.5%. Or anyone else...
Sorry about the hole in it. The person on opal auctions who sold it was a miner and pumps these out in the 1000's, so most likely didn't look deeper into what the picture in it actually represents.
