Dirk Braeckman in FOMU: More of a painter than a photographer

NL | Dirk Braeckman (BE, °1958) onderzoekt al meer dan veertig jaar het medium fotografie met zijn subtiele, donkere beelden. Voor de tentoonstelling Echtzeit gaat hij in dialoog met de FOMU-collectie. "Deze tentoonstelling is een scharnierpunt in mijn oeuvre", zegt Braeckman daarover, "omdat ik volledig vertrek van beelden die ik niet zelf genomen heb".
In de tentoonstelling Echtzeit maakt Braeckman een eigenzinnige selectie uit de museumcollectie en eigent zich deze collectiestukken toe om nieuw werk te maken: je ervaart ze door zijn camera, ogen en handen. Nog tot 19.01.2025 te zien in FOMU. Meer info op @irk-braeckman-echtzeit
ENG | Dirk Braeckman (BE, °1958) has explored the medium of photography in sombre/dark and understated images, for over forty years. The ‘Echtzeit’ exhibition presents a dialogue between Braeckman and the FOMU collection. It shows the museum pieces personally selected by the artist, and also the new work that these inspired. "The exhibition at FOMU is a pivotal moment in my oeuvre", says Braeckman. "Because I start entirely with images that i have not taken myself."
In the exhibition Echtzeit, Braeckman appropriates the pieces from the collection and the viewer experiences them through the artist’s camera, eyes and hands. Until 19.01.2025 at FOMU. More information on fomu.be/en/exh...
