My favorite writing is a combination of cursive and print that I learned when I was in school in England. It's fast and easy to read and not as loopy as true cursive. Looks really neat when using a stub nib!

Cursive handwriting is my favorite handwriting style :) - I’m new to fountain pens and own just one. I have always loved journals and one day after reading years of my journals, I realized that I always mentioned and described what kind of pen I was using. In most cases my pens were simple ballpoint pens or perhaps a roller ball. I am currently an Officer and I needed a way to relieve stress so I decided it was time to start writing journals again and I wanted to finally use a fountain pen. So I purchased my FIRST fountain pen about 2 weeks ago. Now I love fountain pens! I do write in cursive as it is the only form I know, but I WANT to learn others and I want a fountain pen to be the pen I use. I actually found your videos on RUclips and it helped me choose my first fountain pen to use. Thank You! I'm happy I'm writing journals again and I know my story will available for others to read long after I am gone.
Edit: I just read the comments and no longer feel original with my choice of style lol!

My favorite handwriting style is Italic handwriting. Despite practicing Italic calligraphy since I was a preteen, I didn't discover Italic handwriting until 2017. I managed to find a couple of instructional workbooks, and starting in January of 2018, I began to learn. What you said in this video is very true--practice and patience are so important, as is building that muscle memory. I practiced nearly every day for 10 to 20 minutes. At about the 6 month mark, the muscle memory kicked in, and the letters started coming out the way I intended. It's such a pleasure now to sit down and write in this graceful, legible style whenever I wish. I still use Italic calligraphy, and my everyday informational handwriting, as well as cursive now and then.

My favorite is cursive. It is the most natural way for me to write since I was taught in school this way. I am writing more since getting into fountain pens and have been trying to get into bullet journaling. I enjoy making and trying different styles in my writing. The Clairefontaine French Rule paper looks great for handwriting practice. I own a pad and will definitely use it for improving my handwriting.👍🏻

If I have time, my favorite handwriting style is still CURSIVE, especially with a stub or cursive. For everyday writing, I still use cursive! (I am past 70. My father, educated in the 1920s in rural America, not only took handwriting in elementary school, but when (after 8th grade) he was selected and given a scholarship for a Southern Illinois Normal (now Southern Illinois University; schools to teach in the one-room country schools), he had a semester-long college class in cursive. The flairs he wrote with were amazing to read (but not always the easiest to read). :)

My favorite handwriting style is actually pretty much the one use myself. I write in a mix of cursive and print. It looks very consistent, but it is sometimes a little bit hard to read for some, because there is quite a lot going on on the page. I just sometimes wish my capital G would look better and some letters to be more consistent.

My favorite style of writing is a coworkers block print. They worked in a bunch of technical positions where they ended up hand drafting blue prints and other technical drawings like that. In his 80s his writing was so small and crisp you would swear it just came off a plotter.
I print when I write because I finally have achieved the point where others can read it.

Modern calligraphy is my current favorite. When you add the line variation and flourishes it looks so pretty and ornate. I'm also liking Spencerian, which I feel has to be written with a fountain or dip pen. You just don't get the same satisfaction writing these scripts with a standard ballpoint pen.

Hi Tom. Great video. I have been working on my Spencerian for a year and a half now. You are absolutely right about the slow changes in writing. Even at this stage, if I don't pay attention, I fall right back into my standard cursive which I find ugly and childish. Hopefully at some point that muscle memory will change styles.

Cursive is my favourite style, even though I enjoy also the print. For example if I'm taking notes that I want to share with my collegues I usually prefer print because it often results easier to read. But if I'm writing for myself then cursive all night long, it is such a personal and artistic style and it is quick so that you can follow the flow of your thoughts and just let them go.

Fountain pens were required when I was in school as were writing lessons. So cursive is what we learned. (There was always an enormous blue bottle of ink at the front of the classroom that we filled our pens from). I went back to daily fountain pen use about 10 years ago and will never go back. I think it helps with hand fatigue and carpel tunnel also. But mostly it gives pleasure to a task I do every day as a writer.

Cursive is my favorite style of writing. In a hurried or casual writing, I will slip in and out of cursive and print. Ever since being taught cursive, I have pretty much used it. What I have noticed the most since using a fountain pen, is that my grip has changed, and am using a much lighter touch. I find using a ballpoint more effort now.

Agreed- practice and patience are essential for learning and improving one’s handwriting! My life long love of fine paper and pens has developed into a great love and appreciation for fountain pens, and so in recent years I use them to practice my cursive Italic...my new favorite writing style. I learned cursive in school (Palmer method) and have used it most of my life, but I noticed a deterioration in my cursive writing as I aged. Through my attempts over the years to improve my handwriting, I decided to try cursive Italic and love it. Plus, I’ve noticed an improvement in my regular cursive as well. What a pleasure it is to write-especially with fountain pens!

I like printstyle most for taking all sorts of notes! I used to take all notes with cursive as it is much faster to write with, but over time I found out that printstyle is more efficient due to being more legible, so now I try to actively improve the speed of my printstyle
Serif is something I try to get a hand on nowadays. I like to play with it a bit when I'm relaxing around or when I make headers in my notes, I find it very soothing and I think it works fantastically with pens I have (very rigid lines, in general, that is).

Thanks for another set of great tips, Tom. I always print ... EXCEPT when I have a fountain pen in hand, then I always write long hand. Don't really understand why, but it's automatic. Of course, I'm an old fogy that remembers fountain pens and cursive from the old days. My penmanship does NOT automatically improve with a fountain pen though. Like you said, it requires practice. My biggest failure is slowing down when I do practice. Gotta practice patience too.
Best wishes to all who enter. That Sailor Pen will be wonderful for whomever wins it!

Cursive of course! For years I had forgotten how to even write in cursive, quick note taking on cheap paper with ballpoint pens had gotten me into the printing habit - poorly at that. I did have some nice Cross or Waterman ballpoints but once I discovered fountain pens, it actually forced me to write in cursive - what the nuns back in grammar school 50 years ago called writing in script!:-) Over the past 3 years since my fountain pen journey began, I have once again re-learned script/cursive and I do see improvement over that time

Being a lefty, I have a love / hate relationship with cursive. Getting into fountain pens several years ago has renewed my interest. So far, cursive may be faster in theory...but for now it requires just enough attention to detail to slow me down. It’s good for writing, but bad for note taking in real time.

Cursive hand writing is the way to go! I use it for journaling.

My favourite writing style is cursive, even though I'm not very good at it, but I'm trying to improve by journaling everyday. My parker 45 (M) has never seen so much use in years!

I learned to write at school using the Marion Richardson - Writing & Writing Patterns, my everyday handwriting is still based on this style but I used a narrow (elongated) form of Architectural Lettering for making notes for work and journaling.

For me, fountain pens have been in my life for as far back as I can remember. In elementary school, our desks were outfitted with ink wells on the top-right side, and every day we practiced the loop, slant, and spacing of the Palmer Method. Over the last two years, I've practice adding flourishes to my cursive, mostly for envelope addresses.

I practice cursive (my favorite) everyday and am in the market for a stub nib to spice things up a bit! Great video!

My favorite writing style is cursive, especially with a soft or flex nib. Thanks for the video.

If I had to choose a favorite, I would go with Spencerian cursive. The line variation is not overdone and the letterforms have a certain angularity to them that looks elegant to me.

My favorite is the typewriter font, I haven’t mastered it yet but some day I will! I also like the faux calligraphy, it’s great for making it look nice even when you don’t have a flex nib!

Cursive, but still working on it. Being a lefty side writer does sometimes pose a challenge😍😍😊😊😊😊
