I’ve never seen someone use an old vectorscope in such a unique way. We used to use the x y as a cheap audio l/r phase display. These scopes were primarily used to setup analog tape machines (1”, Betacam SP, etc) by adjusting chroma phase and amplitude in the TBC (time base corrector). oddly enough we still use a vector display on current digital waveform displays every day the the color grading suites. I must have dumped 40 of these 1720 & 1725’s in the last 10 years!

I did a very similar thing with an old hp 141 spectrum analyzer with a dead display, using a scope as the display. Had to build amplifiers for the x & y as you did. I was thinking what happened to the z mod, display blanking. Had to do that on mine. But that was a long time ago, 30 years😂

In XY mode the Tek is supposed to get the Z blanking from the other instrument supplying the XY inputs. Probably another Tek companion instrument. If I dig in a little more I could add blanking. With the results as is, the display is usable just fine without the blanking so for now my time is better spent on other projects. Thanks for the comment.
