So bitttersweet! Thank you for all these years. Long-time Lightwave user since the Amiga days, switched to modo 1.3 long time ago, been using all other kinds of 3d programs along side, mostly Maya, but I always felt mostly @home in Modo. I miss the golden years from Modo 5.0 to about 9.0. Brad Peebler and the Crew, the forums and Luxology. Rest In Peace together with XSI, see you on the other side :)
So far, the interface and software performance are the best I have seen. I was already happy using Modo as it is with Modo 15.2v4 on macOS; for some reason, version 16 is too unstable for me. However, with this last update, I don’t see myself leaving Modo for a long, LONG time. I really hope Modo eventually finds a way to keep growing because this update shows how much better Modo can become and how much it has yet to deliver.
If you choose not to open source modo, I will never forgive you. I’d sooner craft my own compositor than turn to Nuke, I'll paint textures in blender before touching Mari, and urge everyone I know to abandon your tools. You fail to grasp the depth of what modo meant to so many.
I was a longtime Lightwave user - and tried my very best to make Modo my home, but while I liked the look of the interface, I never completely got there. The shader layers thing confused me, and never did what I was expecting. The baking workflow would always need multiple attempts. Rendering performance always seemed disappointingly slow even though my computers were an order of magnitude faster. The engineering of Modo was great but I could never convert that into productivity gains. I am sorry that Modo is going away but I am using Blender now, and while that also has sharp edges when it comes to usability, those shortcomings are more forgivable when the price is free.
What an odd video to release. I've been a Modo user for a long time and was told I had to find another solution at work by end of year because our licensing agreement would be over and foundry would not extend. I'm rushing to learn Blender so it's just a head scratcher to see this video touting new features with 17.1 when I'm professionally being told to find another solution. No ending is ideal for everyone..but I wasn't expecting things to end like this. I'm assuming it's mostly to acknowledge all the hard work that went into the release by all the talented folks behind the scenes at Foundry working on Modo..but it still feels odd to drop a video touting features for software that is being sunset leaving folks like me scrambling.
I just want a version that doesn’t crash all the time. Also, I feel like these videos are like McDonald’s commercials where they show a picture of an awesome looking sandwich but when you get it, it looks like shit. My advanced Newport never works the way it doesn’t these videos and most of the features don’t work the way they do in these videos. And whatever happened to the multi bridge tool? That disappeared I think in version 14.
Its a beautiful piece of software but it was highly inaccesible to most people , had little to no marketing and cause of the paywall the community was non existant. But i think if this narrative goes well it could make a revival cause its the fastest way to handmake models that i have seen.
After 25 years, I'm quitting 3D and going to become a developer. I can't stand blender or maya-modo was my favorite 3D tool since the start. oh well, this is why we can't have nice things.

That door closing at the end :') good night king

feeling so sad... please make it open source
Not for broke hobbyists
Use Blender
Please make Modo open source so we can keep working on it!
THIS is a great idea.
Only One Way to open source: Let Foundry GO Broke and sell out their all IPs.
We need it open source.
I’ll be honest, my entire company, who owns over 50 Nuke licenses, has been relying on the foundry. This kind of decision makes us very nervous.
Nice updates. Now remove the limit of the 10y license and just let us keep using it. :)
this software should not die, it is too important

Please a fondation like blender ... modo should deserve that and the 3d community too. It will become a game changer...Modo is blender done right
After more than 9 years working with both, I'm 100% thinking the same.
Modo 17.1のリリースをありがとうございます。メンテナンス期間がまだ半年程ありますので、17.1のバグ取りをして欲しいです。
This hurts so much 😭... Thank you for everything, guys.
Thanks Team! Please make it open source
Even in death, still a great modeler.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain
ohhh come on. don't let modo die!
modo17.1は美しいソフトです✨✨✨
I wish the development had continued, even if it was slow. I wanted to keep subscribing forever. Thank you for the wonderful updates until the end.
Maybe the new owner of Lightwave can buy Modo? 🤔
Unsubscribe. No need for Foundry any more.
Is there still a way to buy a licence before it's fully discontinued? I tried clicking the 'buy' option on the website but it did nothing.
Хорошая интересная программа, жаль что так и не набрала популярности на рынке

Ironic that they used a closing door as the last shot since that what Foundry did to Modo.

Does it still crash when using MeshFusion?
Looks great, shame you decided to kill it :)
